The best ribeye that I have had in years. The bread is also great. Cynthia/Cindy was very nice and efficient.
Great Easter brunch with friends. Make a reservation for any holiday. Highly recommend for any occasion.
It was wonderful! Waitress was great, the place was clean, food was incredible.
My husband and I enjoyed celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary this week at Newell House, our favorite restaurant in Carbondale. Pedro, our waiter was friendly and so attentive. We heartily recommend Newell House in Carbondale for all your special occasions!
Our group's go to place for all special occasions/holidays.
We went to done for valentines day. My fiance ordered crab cakes and I had salmon. The food was delicious and our server Krystal was exceptional!!! We will be back.
Valentine's dinner. Excellent food; excellent waitress. Only there when needed, but always there when needed. Rare to find this kind of service.
the service was great! the place in nice. We did not care for our entrée food. The appetizer was good. For the price, the food quality was not worth it to us. We will not be back and prefer a place in Marion who has comparable prices, the same good service but way better food.
Great food. Quality meal. You could tell they did not skimp anywhere on quality in our opinion..Considering the high quality of the meal the prices were fair in my opinion. i would definately be back and recommend to anyone.
We went for a very special occasion (celebrate husbands new job). As he was preparing to take his first bite, he discovered about an 18 inch long hair laying across from his steak to his potato. The server asked if he could bring him something else, but it was too late.....not only his appetite, but also his entire mood for the evening was completely ruined. He did not eat, and his meal was removed from the bill. For the 2 remaining individuals to have a modest meal, no alcohol and 1 appetizer, the bill was still $70. Very disappointing to pay this much for an evening that was 110% ruined by hair in the food.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Received a gift card for Christmas and decided to try it out. We will definitely be back.
We dine here frequently. The food is quite good for the price. It fills a nice place between fast food and fine dining.
Lovely dinner. Wonderful service provided for our multigenerational group of seven. Salmon, scallops, steak, and pasta were all well prepared and presented.
Took the family there after my son graduated from SIU. I wanted something a little nicer and this fit the bill.
There aren’t many choices in Carbondale for dining that isn’t a food chain. For that, this restaurant is a good choice. The service and food were great. The restaurant is a little dingy, but they dim the lights so that helps. The light fixture above our table had cobwebs. The food was delicious but very limited in choice. Our server said that the chef limited the menu because they expected to be busy for graduation celebrations. You couldn’t even chose your vegetables- everyone received potatoes and green beans. Overall, the food and service was good and I am glad they offer something different and more intimate than restaurant chains.
Nice menu. Poor execution. Medium prime rib should not be clearly served raw.
Always enjoy a dinner at this restaurant. The atmosphere is romantic and the music is soft and easy listening. Would recommend for date night or any special occasion. On some nights they also have live music downstairs in the bar.
Food was AWESOME! Service was good and very nice.
Had a wonderful meal with friends for a special occasion. Everything tasted great and the service was gracious.
Mussels appetizer demands its juices be sopped up with bread. Bright and fresh tasting salads. Ample desserts. A good choice for dinner if you're a vacationing out-of-towner like us.
Great restaurant to have a relaxing dinner with family and friends. Food is outstanding and really tasty.
Everything was excellent ,reservations, food and service
We will definitely be going back
Was in town for one night and had dinner with four friends. Hadn't been back to C-dale in almost 20 years since attending SIU. Was really impressed to see this caliber place in C-dale. Service was great, food was really good and drinks were strong. It wasn't cheap, but was worth it. I had the Chicken Piccata and it was excellent. Friends had steak, the salmon, tomato bisque, caprese salad and artichoke dip. I would recommend this place if you are looking for something a little bit more upscale in C-dale.
As usual, excellent in every aspect. Great for business meals
I'VE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED WITH ANYTHING THERE. FOOD AND SERVICE HAS ALWAYS BEEN OUTSTANDING.
As good as a Southern Illinois college can get. The menu was pretty standard. The service was a little mixed up and kind of slow. We wanted to like it more but we're less than overwhelmed.
I was very disappointed to see that Newell House had an Eclipse Menu on Friday night, and that it only included one vegetarian entree. This was my anniversary date night, and we had been looking forward to a classy dinner in Carbondale. Nowhere on their website did it say that there would be a special menu for the eclipse. I hope to go back sometime and eat there, and hopefully the full menu will be available.
Hadn't been here in a while but pleased with the meal. The fried calamari was well prepared and very tender. The entrees were good but nothing spectacular. Our server was friendly and not overbearing. All in all a good dining experience.
Absolutely perfect in service , food quality and price
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there this weekend and it was wonderful! Great service, yummy food, and overall top notch experience! Highly recommend! 😊
I dine at Newell House fairly often. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is quiet. I am always pleased with my dining experience.
FOOD AND SERVICE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EXCELLENT THE RESTAURANT IS ALWAYS WELL PREPARED. I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND NEWELL HOUSE TO ANYONE.
This is our second year spent for Father's Day at Newell House. Table of 8 with two young children. Service was fantastic. Food fabulous (I love the Mornay Sauce). Pricing reasonable. My family looks forward to eating Father's Day Brunch at Newell House. We intend to make it a family tradition.
Our server was terrific. She made a very special effort to procure us some chocolate after diner on my birthday.
Mother's Day Sunday Comfort Foods, excellent. Many trips to Carbondale, but first time at Newell House and we definitely enjoyed.
We had reservations, but the place was fairly busy so we went downstairs and had a drink and appetizer while waiting for our table to be cleared. Once seated, the waiter was prompt with drinks and took our orders. Food arrived in reasonable time and was good. Waiter was attentive to our needs and overall this was a good experience.
We took our SIU senior and his friends out for a celebratory dinner the night before graduation ... the service was wonderful, as always, as the food superb. We were just sorry that the famous signature mushroom soup was not on the abbreviated menu. It is a classic dish! We love Newell House.
Took our college granddaughter for dinner. We had a great time. Food was delicious and wonderful friendly service. Staff was helpful. Good wine reasonable price.
Best overall dining experience we've had in the area. Food was beyond excellent, drinks were yummy, service was fantastic and the prices were more than reasonable. It was our first time there, but we will most certainly be back!
Our waitress was very nice and the reservations set on Open Table were very easy. We had a corner table set aside which is exactly what we wanted. Our food was not spectacular at all though unfortunately. I ordered the crab cakes and was unimpressed. The red pepper aioli over the crab cakes didn't have much taste at all. Presentation of all the items was nice except for the chicken pesto that my friend ordered. It looked like green baby food slopped over a piece of chicken. We had never seen pesto like that before. We all felt that our entrees were completely overpriced for what we received. A few more menu selections would have been nice as well. We had a variety of appetizers, stuff mushrooms, spinach artichoke dip and the potato cakes. The mushrooms didn't seem fresh and the stuffing just kind of plopped out of them. The spinach artichoke dip was fantastic and everyone enjoyed. The potato cakes tasted like shredded pre packaged hash browns and nothing more. Overall, the ambiance was nice but our food was just blah and not worth the price that we paid.
