New York Prime Steakhouse - Buckhead Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I come here several times a year. The filet is consistently the best steak I've ever eaten. Now let me be clear, my wife and I are steak people and travel extensively around North America. We have eaten at the top steakhouses in NYC, Chicago, Kansas City, etc. The filet at NY Prime in good old Atlanta beats them all.
New York Prime may not be the easiest to find, but it's worth the effort. The menu is varied enough for most tastes and the selection of cuts of beef are terrific. Everything was perfectly prepared and I have to say the barrel cut filet is the best in the Atlanta metro area. Perfectly charred exterior with a perfectly cooked inside. Sides are enormous, large enough to share between 2-3 people, maybe even 4 if you're not large veggie eaters. Appetizers are excellent (the Blue Point oysters were huge and sweet), the tomato and onion salad mouthwatering (although I personally would prefer a balsamic dressing to Brooklyn French), and desserts are just as good as everything else. The wine list is extensive and I'd have to say prices are very competitive. All in all an absolutely wonderful dining experience and I cannot wait to return.
This is a wonderful find with a uniquely Vegas/NYC vibe. I've been three times now and the service & menu never disappoint. I am partial to the bone in rib eye - the best steak in Atlanta, hands down. The bacon appetizer is unique and delicious. I love all the sides. They allow cigar smoking here so if you prefer a smoke-free environment, sit in the rear of the restaurant.
Was not aware this was a smoking establishment, and the smoke from the bar permeated to the entire restaurant. This was fine while sitting at the bar, but the space is quite small, so there is no way to escape the thick smell of cigarette and cigar smoke - even at the furthest tables from the bar (we tried). They have done nothing to attempt to control the smoke with electronic air handlers, and have not made any attempt to segregate the bar area physically from the diners. Thankfully, it was a not a terribly cold May day, and we were able to eat outside. The wind blew our napkins around, and knocked over a wine glass, but the food was excellent. The bone-in filet that I had was perfectly prepared - Pittsburgh - these guys know what they are doing with the food. The service was very warm and welcoming at the bar (Steve is a Pro), and very good for dining. On a nice day, I would return if I could get an outdoor table. The inside is unbearable.
Beautiful place; nice ambiance.
Food was OK, limited menu. The waiters should better explain the cooking style for the steaks and the options.
Neither of the two steaks we ordered were pleasant to eat. Under-cooked, overcooked in some areas.
Service is great. Servers and bar staff were really good and accommodating.
My incredible good fortune allows me to enjoy the best cuisine from all parts of our quaint little blue marvel of a planet. NYP along with Bobby's guidance is without a doubt, quite simply, THE best steakhouse in all of my travels! Period...end of story. Do your own due diligence. If you do not care for cigars...stay away. This makes more room for all of us that love NYP.
This restaurant has a great bar scene with entertainment and a little dancing if you wanted.
The bar/restaurant is smoky because they allow cigar smokers at the bar which makes the restaurant seating a little smoky, too, so if smoke bothers you, you may want to choose another restaurant. The food is fantasic though, so it may be worth it!
I have dined at the restaurant many times. The food and service have always been excellent. And so it was this time as well. But from the moment we walked inside, we smelled a huge amount of cigar smell. Throughout the dinner we smelled it. We even commented to the waiter. In times past we smelled it near the bar but not in the restaurant area. 6 of us had dinner and we all could not wait to get out of the restaurant and change our clothes. We love the food here but will have to go to another steakhouse in town to spend our $700 plus Very disappointing!!!
This is absolutely the finest steak restaurant in Atlanta. Number 1!!
We had the Barrel cut filet and the bone in ribeye. Their table side fettuccini is the best in Atlanta. Once again we also had the Best stone crabs anywhere (11 ozs each). Better than Joe's!!
Mark provided his usual exceptional service! He is worth requesting.
Thanks again for another beautiful evening!!
Know that you are walking into a smoke pit. I love cigars, but the restaurant is not segmented from the smokey bar. If you do not like smoke...AVOID. Also, if you make a reservation for a large party (mine was 10) the restaurant makes you fill out a guarantee form with a credit card. For any no-shows from your reservation, you will be charged $50 per person. (My party ended up being 7 but we spent $1,400 so I guess that was simply to scare people off). Needless to say, I will take my business partners elsewhere.
Way too smokey!!! If you want to choke on thick cigar smoke while you eat, this is the place for you. The smoke was so bad, we almost left the place before we were served. What a shame! We had looked forward to our first dinner at NYP. Won't go back after dropping well over $600 on 4 people. They should give a "your jacket and slacks will need dry cleaning if you don't want them to stink up your closet" discount on your bill. Disgusting.
