Great food and friendly staff.
Disappointed that they have substantially changed the menu and incresed prices
Used to be a regular but unlikely will not go so often anymore
Food was average for the price and the service was a little lacking.
Love this place! We had the pimento cheese appetizer and it was amazingly delicious!! We ordered the tomahawk pork chop with baked peas on top and a delicious sauce and the tile fish on golden grits entrees. Both were truly delicious. Our server Kelsey is always great and very helpful with suggestions. We had the lemon tart and chocolate mousse for dessert. Both were so, so delicious! This restaurant never disappoints! Its our go to place for great food. The chef's creativity putting the dishes together is something we always look forward to. 10 stars to New South Kitchen!!!
New South is our “go to” restaurant when we don’t want to cook. The service and food are always great, with a relaxing atmosphere!
We all liked our food...mostly. My mother-in-law did not like some of the menu changes plus thought her mimosa was not as good as in the past -- no fresh oj, apparently.
Birthday dinner for my daughter. The food was incredible!
Shrimp and grits composition was not to our taste: Too few grits, too much brown chorizo flavored gravy. Also, shrimp were "fishy" tasting (according to 2 diners), not the delicate shrimp flavor we expected.
Snapper was good. Collards were very salty - expected them to be somewhat salty being cooked in usual southern style but it was almost overwhelming. Desserts were very good. WE have eaten here before and have been much happier on those occasions so this may just be a matter of tastes.
Service was very good.
Limited menu but great food and great service. The duck was outstanding.
Had a wonderful meal and high class service. Was a bit surprised when our waitress was obviously miffed when we ordered a beverage from a different staff member. We weren't trying to be rude or disrespectful, just being pragmatic when someone stopped at our table. Loved every bite of our food and was an almost entirely positive experience.
Great food and service as always!
Went for dinner. Ordered the pimento cheese appetizer and it was to die for! Their biscuits are always tasty and hard to resist. We ordered the pork tenderloin and the roasted chicken. The tenderloin is our go to. Always amazing! The roasted crispy chicken was very delicious. We tried s new side sweet potatoes and mushrooms an unusual combo but really good. Tried and true roasted vegetables is always good too. Shared the lemon tart. This is a dreamy dessert! Delicious graham crust, the delicious lemon custard and merengue topped with blueberries. So, so delicious!!
Our waitress was Jennifer, I believe. She's a teacher and her service and personality were outstanding.
we had a great visit and tried dishes out of the norm and they were terrific. the park and crab cake eggs benedict
As always, the food was great. I had the Scallops and my wife had the Chicken. Both were excellent as were the biscuits before dinner. Our server, Emily, was very personable and offered excellent menu advice. New South Kitchen is one of our favorite go to restaurants.
Truly enjoyed the experience and will go again! The food was wonderful as well!
We had visitors from out of town with 2 small children. Our server Chris was very accommodating! He brought markers and was very patient with our group. We had the bone in pork chop which was really amazing. Our usual go-to Pork tenderloin, always delicious and the salmon also very delicious. Sides were the mixed grilled vegetables, succotash and the roasted potatos, these were all really great! The boys had a sampling of everyone's food and also had chicken fingers. Dessert was chocolate mousse cake and lemon tarts both were out of this world! This was a very successful outing with the children, many thanks to everyone at NSK!
I love New South Kitchen. They never disappoint! We ordered a new appetizer, pork bellies. So tender and delicious, ,melted in your mouth. Best I've ever had. We also had the fried green tomato appetizer and that is so delicious! For entrees we ordered the pork tenderloin, our go to entree, so, so fantastic! The salmon and the roasted chicken on goat cheese, both were also amazing! Dessert was the lemon tart served in a flat jar with whipped cream and blueberries, what can I say about it? It is such a tasty treat!! Amazing!! Delicious!! Eating at New South feels like we are getting delicious home cooked food!! Our server Kelsey is efficient, great to talk with and get food suggestions from. She is an all around great server!!
We have never had a bad meal or bad service at New South. It is quiet and comfy and can be counted on for a great locally sourced meal.
New South never disappoints! We visited to celebrate a birthday AND do Queen’s Feast. The baked pimento cheese appetizer was amazing! The Blackened Sirloin was perfectly cooked, the Crab Stuffed NC Trout was full of crabby-deliciousness, and the Grilled Pound Cake with Marinated Blackberries and Buttermilk Ice Cream is one of the best desserts around! Service was wonderful, attentive but not overbearing and well-informed to answer any questions. We’ve been going here for years and will continue to do so!
Food was fresh and prepared with great flavor. Pork belly was incredible, good turnip greens, shrimp and grits were a large portion/lots of shrimp
The place was kinda dead but I attribute that to restaurant week. The ambiance was lacking for my taste, it felt lackluster in appearance and plain.
Queens Feast offerings had really good choices, trout was very good as was shrimp and grits, apps tasty, desserts excellent. Server unfortunately was clearing plates before we were finished however and felt rushed. Would dine here again!
YES!! The food was fresh and deliciously prepared. This was my first visit there, but I will be back.
The service was great. The flies in the restaurant were unappealing around my food and the shrimp and grits were under seasoned. I will say that the grilled pound cake and chocolate mousse were very good.
I went with a group of ladies for a night out. The service was great and food delicious. I had the roasted lemon chicken dish, which was cooked perfectly -tender and juicy! They had some fun cocktails and a nice wine list. The bar was nice too.
I've been going to New South since it was Dakota's (for the past 18+ years). The restaurant is locally owned, the food is excellent, and the service is always outstanding. It is the best restaurant at the Arboretum and I highly recommend it.
The service and food were wonderful. The Belgian waffles were delicious!
I like to frequent local restaurants but someone should prompt the ownership to upgrade this restaurant in most areas. The service is abrupt, almost without a greeting. Carpet is in bad need of replacement, and to tell the truth my boneless ribeye was absolutely nothing to brag about. Poor cut of meat, I expected it to be good at a price of $28.00. Whipped potatoes were good and the biscuits left at the table were also good.
One of the best restaurants in all of Charlotte. We eat there three times a month. Always perfect.
Great food. Great service. Will be coming back.
New South is such a lovely hidden gem! Fresh, farm to table foods with really reasonable prices. The baked pimento cheese & pepper jam appetizer was incredible. We were told that the chef custom creates a few entrees every days based on the fresh ingredients that they receive. That’s super cool. We enjoyed a heritage farms pork dish, the scallops (which were so light and buttery), and the chicken w/ goat cheese. Everything was spectacular, we will definitely be back soon. Skip the overpriced chain restaurants and check out this local joint...mimosa specials on Sunday!
Wonderful farm to table food and awesome craft cocktails! Try the honey bourbon cocktail...
As usual, everything was outstanding! We had the ribeye steak and that was beyond words! Most delicious steak I have ever eaten! Servers are really wonderful people who always speak with you, make you feel welcome and do a great job! Dessert was the grilled poundcake!! That is the most delicious dessert ever! Thank you New South!
Food was wonderful and service was great but wine by the glass is too expensive. Not a great pour for $10 for a chardonnay. That was disappointing.
New South is one of my favorite farm to table restaurants in the area. It's usually excellent with fantastic service. This last visit wasn't the best - the waitress, who I've had before, seemed annoyed with basic questions and wasn't friendly. I'll definitely make sure to ask for another server. Food was great as always.
We celebrated Father’s day with a lovely brunch . My family especially enjoyed the chicken and waffles entree . The service was wonderful and perfect for our brunch . We were very happy with our meal and experience . Thank you .
We eat here 3-4 times per year and I can’t tell they ever spent any money to update the carpet, paint, motif. Food is good although some items are overpriced for size of serving.
We always love New South. They accommodated our party of 8 with no problem. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in town.
Very good. Everyone got a different fish with fried chicken and they were all delicious
