A nice small restaurant with a good menu. Paneer starters were very authentic but our main portion size was very small. For $60 I thought this was very overpriced .
Booked via open table and could not get the time slot I wanted so had to go later. Very annoyed when I got there as there was literally only one other table occupied. ( not because everyone else had left - it had never been busy ) The food was good. But eating in an empty restaurant is not great. Service was also OK - friendly and efficient. - They only had two tables to serve so the least you would expect is reasonable service.
This was fantastic. We went on a Tuesday night, were seated quickly, and the food and service were great. This was a quick pre-conference dinner, so we ate quickly, but there were others lingering over their meals and appearing to be relaxed and enjoying themselves.
Very good food as always at New Delhi, in SF on business and I always make it a point to stop during the week at least once. We had a vegetarian in our party and there were lots of delicious options for you and the noise level there is good for having a conversation amongst yourselves. My only complaint is that they were out of Kingfisher beer.
The server was not knowledgeable and had no clue what she was doing. We didn’t even get to eat the food waited for an hour and all we got was drinks I saw other tables around ours having issues with the same server to so we left hungry and angry.
We spent my husband’s birthday over there and it was the best decision we made!
When we arrived they knew it was my husband’s birthday because they took the time to read the note I sent them.
They also accommodated us like I requested, in a private and romantic table.
Honestly, I cannot say what was the best, if the service or the food.!
Indian food is my husband’s favorite! We live in miami and spent his birthday in an unforgettable restaurant with delicious food and incredible service! It was absolutely great!!
I strongly recommend this restaurant !!
Another Indian restaurant that has no idea what a vindaloo is, let alone how to make one. No chef here has ever been to Goa, or London, even! The tandoori mixed plate was quite good, and came with some good chutney and strange tamarind sauce. The nan was nice, but average. The rice with vegetables was very good, but couldn’t offset the muck they called “lamb vindaloo”. If that meat was from a lamb, then my grandmother is a debutante. Not fresh, not good, not vindaloo. For fanciers of the King of Curries, avoid this place.
Food was terrible, have had much better Indian food.
Each dish tasted the same. No discernible spice in any of the 3 dishes. The Nan was like eating cardboard. I held a Company banquet here in the 90’s and the food was excellent; this was my first time back and my last.
Food and service was great. The noise from the front bar was so loud it was distracting and destroyed the ambience.
This food is so delicious. The sauces are wonderful.
Great Indian Food! We make it a point to go here for dinner when in San Francisco. The atmosphere is more Indian inspired and gives a authentic vibe. My husband ordered the vindaloo as spicy as they could make it and was very happy a compared to other Indian restaurants where they tend to tone down or "Americanize" the spice level. I on the other hand like a mid spice and it was also perfect for me.
Pleasant room and staff. Mediocre food of small portions, bland, and lacking spice. Drilled tandoor platter was overdone, dried out with one shrimp, 2small pieces of chicken, some spiced lamb which was bitter, and one small of fish. Garlic naan was bitter, oily. Vegetarian dashes were pureesof non descript ingredients. So disappointing for a special evening out with friends.
I’ve eaten here a few times the service and food are exceptional.
The owner was so sweet and the staff was so attentive. The ambiance was beautiful and the food was great would defintely recommend people to try it. Thank you.
The New Delhi is fantastic! From the chef/owner to the servers everything is top notch.
Food was excellent and the recommendations were spot on.
Can't wait to go back and take friends.
We went to New Delhi for dinner on a Saturday before theatre. Food was ok, the presentation so so, but the ambience was non existent. The waiters seemed to be beginners and had zero interest in their jobs. It's too bad because the restaurant has pretty nice decor and has so much potential. The restrooms and area around them need some attention. I hope the owners can make some changes and inject some life into their restaurant before it's too late.
Food was delicious. Service was good until I asked for them to pack up what was left so I could have a midnight snack. Waiter went away and came back and threw two boxes, a bag, and aluminum foil on my table and took off. I would have expected a place like this at this price point would have done this for me. Also got an email from open table that the restaurant had reported me as a no show.
Excellent service and tremendous flavors
Very nice ambience and friendly, attentive service. The food was excellent and the restaurant was very quiet.
My wife and I enjoyed a delightful meal at New Delhi Restaurant on a recent trip to San Francisco. Our food and drink were excellent, the decor very upscale and the service outstanding. Of note was the fact that both of our meals seemed freshly prepared unlike some Indian restaurants where you sometimes feel that the food was reheated from a noon buffet. One of my favorites is tandoori chicken and this version was as juicy and flavorful as any had anywhere. Overall a very pleasant experience.
The food was very good! We asked for mild and the seasoning was excellent and not spicy. If you want spicy I'm sure they could pop your eyeballs out, that's just not my palate. The service was also excellent. Good authentic Indian food with lots of variety on the menu.
Mistake in the bill / tandory lamb was not tender the rest was very good.
Restaurant was large but empty, we were the only diners throughout our lunch. Food was just excellent, especially the Eggplant Tamarind. Service was knowledgable and helpful, including preparing a delicious lassi which was not on their list. Will go back next time in SF!
Nice restaurant with authentic indian food
Ranjans hospitality is par exemplar. Always enjoy his restaurant. Food is great and his staff does not compromise on quality.
I searched opentable for places near Union Square and saw this one. Upon arriving at noon we found the place empty, not another diner in sight!. And it stayed that way. The owner was there, as he has been for 30 years, and said while lunch can be quiet diner can be chaotic.
No worries he coached us on dishes and had plenty of info to share.
We ordered a Lamb dish, chicken, nan, and spinach which we shared. All were wonderful - zero complaints. Will have to come back for diner sometime to check out the scene in the evening.
The décor is great, perfectly clean and interesting. we walked around viewing the photos and paintings while our meal was prepared.
So go at noon for private dining experience
This was our first visit to New Delhi restaurant, but we'd happily dine there again. I had the Butter Chicken, which was very good, and Gulab Jamun for desert (is was also very good ... had there been one more piece, I'd rate it excellent). My wife had some kind of sweet mushroom disk, and pronounced it excellent. The garlic naan had sufficient garlic, and was good, but not crispy enough for us to be excellent.
Some tables/chairs are on carpet, and some are on tile. If you fidget and move your chair a lot during dinner, request a table on the tile (the chairs don't slide well on carpet).
We'd made a reservation via OpenTable, and found we were expected.
We enjoyed the atmosphere, and looking at the art (2-D and 3-D) around the restaurant.
We love Indian food and the soup at this restaurant is the best we have ever had. Our main courses were satisfying and tasty. The bar leaves a lot to be desired so have your cocktails before you come.
This is the second time we've eaten here and we hope to go back very soon! The food is SO flavorful and best (in my opinion) shared family-style so everyone can try different things. The building's interior is lovely early San Francisco (Belle Époque) and the staff caring and friendly. So far I've had two lamb dishes and a chicken curry as well as the saffron flavored rice and excellent papadums with their two dipping sauces (tamarind and cilantro). Don't miss these! They are the best I've ever had -- crispy and smoky! There's a very good wine list too -- and a full bar that gets crowded during happy hour.
