New Delhi Restaurant
New Delhi Bar has been the favorite hot spot for many, working in the downtown, restaurant and hotel industry, since its inception in 1988. It is famous for its “Double-Happiness-Happy Hour” featuring complimentary appetizers. The first from 4 to 6pm and the second from 10 to 12 midnight – because not everybody works 9 to 5! Soak up the lively atmosphere and friendly company.
After being quarantined for so long it was great to go out to eat. We have allayed enjoy going to this restaurant. The food was excellent as always. I picked this restaurant this time knowing they had plenty of room to separate it dinning customers. They asked a few questions on health and took our temperature. We felt welcomed and safe dinning here.
Great service. The owner treated us well and was a blast.
I was hosting a group for dinner with one vegan and one dairy allergy. The owner served us, and when we asked for recommendations on the menu, he offered to put together a full dinner for us. The dinner was great and had a variety of food. Those with dietary restrictions felt included and enjoyed the meal a lot. The spice level was pretty tame, but he brought out a bowl of hot curry sauce for people to add who wanted something hotter. The restaurant was quiet and it was easy to hear each other talk. Overall it was a great experience.
Outstanding experience overall!!
Wish I could submit 4.95 stars.
Signature cocktails were very unique; unfortunately not to our tastes.
New Delhi Restaurant presents tasty Indian specialties in a quiet, lovely environment. The service is always prompt and courteous.
Worst Indian food ever. No flavor, chewy chicken and lamb. Just gross. Tasted like naan was microwaved. Avoid at all costs.
Great service! The owner was extremely attentive and helpful. Delicious food. Numerous gluten free and vegan options.
The place smelled. Food was below par. I took a colleague to try Indian food and the experience was very disappointing.
Very friendly staff and owner
A bargin! Had the dinner for two and it was very good. Desert was not to my taste but everything else was excellent.
Great Indian dinner.
The food is incredibly flavorful. The staff are attentive and friendly and I REALLY appreciate that they take my food allergies very seriously and make sure my selections are safe for me.
Reasonable food, cheap prices but don’t expect something special
The food was creative and good. We had mixed appetizers. Then chicken in a coconut yogurt sauce. Had rice and veggies. Service was slow. Waited almost half an hour then barmaid came to take her order. I could see a superior (who could have served us instead of reprimanding her but he was chatting to folk) telling her to go back to the bar, but she saved the day. It was Christmas Eve so a bit short staffed and there were a couple of groups ahead of us. Enjoyed the food which seemed freshly prepared.
Had the vegetarian meal for 2. It was great, very filling.
Best Indian food I have ever had.
one of the great Indian restaurants and has been consistently great for this Alaskan visitor to SF since the mid-90s!
Authentic Indian cuisine at a reasonable price served in a beautiful setting.
Very good food and froendly service
The staff is very nice but they really keep you waiting.
Food is good but not exceptional.
Downtown SF great get away. Quiet and unique. The owner/chef takes time to welcome you and explain the menu. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Ordered from a he specials and the dishes were wonderful,
Great place. I ate here 20 years ago and it was as good now as then.
The owner was amazing at offering us a variety of flavors. Everything was tasty, he was charming. Definitely recommend.
Classic and dramatic setting high ceilings and yet intimate. Food excellent well spiced. I had malai kofta. very tasty. nice service. Very enjoyable.
Despite some confusion with the bill, everything was great.
What a great find! We had a wonderful dinner with outstanding service. Our waitress was knowledgeable about every dish, which was helpful to some novice Indian food eaters, plus she was delightful to deal with. We thought it was very reasonable as well. Great first night in San Francisco.
Lovely ambience and delicious food with great service
My girlfriends birthday
This is such a great find. There's a fun bar right at the front. The restaurant and tables are in the back. The service is quick and efficient. The food is outstanding. Ranjan, the owner, checks in frequently and has many wonderful stories. We were heading to the theatre and the staff was very accommodating with our time constraints. If you like things really hot, ask for the Ranjan's special ghost chili. But be warned, it is truly unique and ranks as one of the hottest things I have ever eaten. We will definitely be going back!
What a wonderful new find! We ate somewhat early, at 5:30pm on a Saturday and we were the 2nd or 3rd group there. The interior was well suited for the experience with white tablecloths and warm lighting, but not stuffy in any way. People were dressed in jackets as well as more casual attire such as shorts. We were greeted warmly and treated as such the remainder of the evening. The wait staff were very attentive in every way without being overly attentive, and our water glasses were never empty. We knew with the appetizers and the cocktails, that the rest of the meal would be perfect. My chicken korma, with the vegetable pallao, and garlic nan, was perfection. The chicken was perfectly tender and the wonderfully spiced sauce caused me to pause and think, "this is Indian comfort food" to its fullest. My friends had other types of rice dishes and entrees, and were extremely happy and pleased. We were so full that we could not think about dessert, much to our dismay. All the more reason to return again and again. Thank you New Delhi Restaurant for such a wonderful experience.
The most Amazing Indian food I've ever had. First time I've ever seen a whole cardamom seed in the sauce - i ate it and it was wonderful. Thank you for for a very satisfying, authentic Indian food experience.
The food was absolutely delicious and the wait staff was attentive. Would definitely go again next time I'm in San Francisco.
Service fell apart at the end. Hard time getting our check. Also, they reported to OpenTable that I was a no show. Really did not appreciate that. Got the feeling that they are terribly disorganized. However, the food was good and the atmosphere quiet.
The food was disappointing. Service was fine, but accidentally forgot to give me correct change.
But don't sit near the aisle where they bring things in on a cart. My husband had to move to the side and still they must've come through at least 10 times!!!
I made reservations for New Dehli just hours before we arrived. We were seated immediately and there were barely 6 other tables booked. It started out quiet. Within 15 minutes, the majority of the restaurant was filled. While the guests were not unruly, it certain created quite a bit of noise. What I understood was that this restaurant was a tour stop for a group of Indian travelers in San Francisco. I'm not sure they were even in the restaurant an hour. However, their visit did cause that our food didn't come out as quickly as we had hoped. Once they left, the restaurant was again quiet and enjoyable.
Now to the food:
We started with a vegetarian platter of papdum, pakoras, and 1 samosa, served with both a green chutney and a tamarind chutney. They were delicious and we ate them fully.
We asked for 2 bowls of the shrimp chowder. The waitress must only have heard one order, because only 1 arrived. That was actually fine though, because there was a lot of food still to come. The shrimp chowder was super creamy and felt really nice on a cold evening. It had a bit too much salt, so a small quantity went a long way. There could have been a few more pieces of shrimp in the chowder as well. However, the taste was delicious, given that I don't usually care for these types of seafood soups.
Our next items arrived all at the same time: Butter chicken, Murg Akbari, Pullaow (basmatic rice with saffron, cardamon and cloves) , and something akin to Beghan Bhartha (eggplant). We also ordered Garlic Naan and raita.
Butter chicken - Delicious! Made with chicken breast pieces and completely a winner! It paired beauty with the rice.
Murg Akbari: An exotic preparation of chicken with cashews and raisins simmered in a blend of mild spices. This is an excellent dish! So smooth and perfectly seasoned. I could have eaten this all day long!
The rice, raita and naan were all exactly as they should have been. Perfectly flavored and delicious.
It was all excellent!
The food and service is always good. This is one our go to places when we are in San Francisco.
Ranjan, the owner, was very attentive, providing us guidance about the dishes we chose, as well as a "special sauce" to help enhance our dining experience. Very pleasant environment before a show. Went at dinner opening hour, so noise may be more as restaurant fills up given high ceilings. Food was very tasty, and the specialty dishes stood out.
The food was flavorful, the setting is lovely, and Ranjan is a delight.
Really bad food .serve old food .no proper dinning arrangement. I will not recommend anyone to go this restaurant.
