We were conducting a job interview and needed a relatively quiet table. The staff accommodated our reservation and request. The food is always excellent, and our guest was pleased with the elegant decor and relaxed lighting. This restaurant is reliably delicious across the menu, and staff provide exceptional service.
Exceptional. Loved the food, service, and ambiance. Loved the decor and big windows. All 3 various lamb dishes were tasty. Everything we ordered tasted as good or better than we anticipated. Nemea likes using lemons in all their dishes, which we liked. There were plenty of servers. Our server was spot on with her service. We appreciated that she boxed our food for us and that our table was cleared before dessert. Many places throw you a box and plates and leave the dishes around after dinner. My wife would go back just for the baklava. We highly recommend it and will be back.
The food and cocktails were great, but desert was to die for, baklava was amazing.
There was a baby crying for about half of our meal. It’s certainly not a place for babies or young kids. That’s why I marked the noise level as I did.
The menu was diverse and authentic Greek. All dishes were well prepared.
All the ingredients were very fresh and well prepared. Could have used a bit more seasoning to bring out the flavor. The salad was quite large, easily a split for two.
Excelent food. Unfortunately with big groups mixed in the middle of all the tables can be quite noisy and uncomfortable for conversation in 2.
Forgot appetizer.
Loved it! We celebrated a birthday and the entire staff was very accommodating and fun!
Would definitely recommend it for any occasion. The food was excellent and very authentic!
Three diners. Three different entrees and all were excellent. Earthquake Petite Sirah was delicious.
Nemea is consistently excellent, we love the food. Service is on point and prices are reasonable. Particularly the wine list -we always find great imported Greek wines that we can enjoy because they don't break the bank.
We had a family birthday celebration last Saturday night and had reservations for dinner at 6:00. Our waiter and the staff were very attentive, and the food was excellent. I'll definitely return and recommend Nemea to others.
I just recently moved to San Jose and love this restaurant. It has become my go to place to eat ! The food is always excellent and the service is great!
The music is ruining this restaurant. So many empty tables. We were here once before and thoroughly enjoyed the experience -- great cocktails, fabulous food. We took friends here and there was live music that overwhelmed everything. Will not return here.
Unfortunately not a great experience.
We ordered 2 quite expensive meat dishes (lamb chops well done and rib eye steak medium-rare) and they served us the contrary (lamb rare and steak well done).
We understand that the local was busy at that time, but errors like this should not be made.
Terrible service and ordering problems.
Great selection of Greek food - I'm a pescatarian, and there was plenty for me to chow down. Not big on the carbs, but oh my, the rest is outstanding. Great service.
We enjoyed our meal and our server. Food was tasty. Only trouble was with paying the bill. The bill came to $217. We had a $200 Visa Gift Card and gave $60 cash as payment for the remainder and tip. The server told us there was not enough funds on the card and it was rejected but we realized after the fact that she was trying to charge $217 to the card when she should have only charged $200 as instructed. After a couple of rounds back and forth, we gave her a regular credit card and she was able to complete the payment but in the end we ended up paying an additional $17 more than needed.
Food was okay, service good, nice ambience, somewhat costly for the so-so food.
Food was mixed. Some things were good (lamb chops, octopus) others, not so much. The "whole" sea bass was about 3 oz. of fish for $38. A whole minnow evidently. The moussaka was served cold and no one bothered to apologize when we pointed that out. Instead, they silently took it away and returned it at roughly the temperature of the sun; that should teach us to complain. We asked for a refill on the bread four times before it eventually showed up.
The worst part of the meal was the deceit on the check. We split the check to two cards, but the recommended tip they provided on each check was based on the full price of the meal, not the split. If you didn't read carefully and followed their recommendation, you easily could have ended up tipping 40%. I had been a fairly regular customer, but won't be back.
Great vibe. Tasty food. Try it, you won't be disapped.
Our third time at Nemea and can now that they have consistently excellent food and service. Try the octopus—it's extraordinary. Their specialty cocktails are wonderful as well. The service is friendly and professional.
mousaka was very good but portion was too large. The ragu at the bottom was a little dry but still delicious.
Restaurant help and menu quite good.
Very interesting food and in Greek
Tradition
Good service and good customer service I will recommend this restaurant
Had a wonderful evening. Jessica, our server, was attentive and helpful. My husband ordered the Octapodi Salata and really enjoyed it. I had the Kotopoulo Souvlas and enjoyed each element (and mixing the elements). We had the Lukoumathes (Beignets) for dessert -- light and very tasty. Had a really pleasant evening, after catching some of the San Jose Jazz Winterfest at the San Jose Museum of Art - great combination of culture!
Delicious food. All the appetizers were good and my main lamb dish was amazing. The wine paired well. However the cost can easily add up and the final bill could surprise you.
Food was problematic
Riblets came burnt and we sent back and they came back ok.
Entree was undercooked(pink) when we requested well done so we sent back the entree. They were saying they would put it in the oven for 15 minutes. When it came back, it was the same(pink) and not even hot. Clearly, it was never put in the oven.
Nine of our close friends had a group Valentines dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the extensive pre-fixe menu, fabulous food and Greek wines, exceptional service, and the ambience of their open wine cellar room.
Valentine's Day dinner reservations today, we have been to this restaurant several times but not since they changed chefs. It was a price fixed menu, The meals started good , we had a 4 dips each unique and flavorful with 4 warm pieces of flat bread. Followed by your choice of two appetizers we chose the grilled octopus which was tender and delicious our second was the zucchini cakes they were bland and definitely could've used some salt. Next dish was the lemon soup and a salad both nice dishes, entrée was the beef filet nicely cooked with aside of greens & potatoes. My entree was chicken Slouvaki with orzo, & greens, total disappointment 3 tiny pieces of chicken two pieces of grilled onion & one piece of zucchini, the orzo pasta had one note balsamic just vinegar, to top it off the dish was lukewarm. Not what you expect for the price. I mentioned this to the waitress and she replied I'll tell the manager. Dessert was good and service was attentive. Not sure it's worth a trip back based on value and quality.
This was our first time to Nemea. The food was fresh and healthy. Very enjoyable experience.
I have never written a restaurant review before, but I was so dissatisfied with our entire experience from the food, to the service and the spoiled meat. Even without the meat that was spoiled, I would not return. The evening was so ruined that the manager rightly comped us our entire dinner minus drinks. Our waitress was fine, but avoid our table once she realized our meals were ruined.
There was 4 of us dining and first one of our appetizers was forgotten and when it arrived it was burned and dry. The servers never returned to refill our waters or drinks. 3 of the meals arrived and then things became unbearable. Our 4th dinner was delayed and we had to keep flagging down staff for help. After 25 minutes, the 3 meals were cold and the 4th arrived. It was a double cut pork chop that was absolutely rancid. All of us could smell the spoiled meat. Our 3 fish dishes were dried out on top of mushy vegetables and instead of risotto with scallops they gave us rice.
We again had to flag down anybody, send the rancid dinner back and wait for a manager and did not offer drinks. We had to wait for more water and some bread for our friend who did not get a meal. The manager was conciliatory. Our goal was a nice evening and this restaurant is expensive. Having out dinners comped was the right thing to do, but did not make up for the food and service.
Excellent food, wine. Risotto and scallops were our main dishes with octopi for appetizer, all were very good.
very tasty , great flavors ! recommend the prawns & burnt cheese
Nemea is a favorite downtown San Jose dinner spot. The flavors and quality of the food are consistent. Service is top notch. We especially dine here before the theatre or concert. Staff is most accommodating about time. Everything delicious.
Overall, the experience at Nemea was positive. The food was good, the menu choices were good, and the ambiance was comfortable. However, the service was kind of all over the place. One gal took our drink order and then someone else took our food order. Appetizer arrived and about halfway through the appetizer, I flagged down our waitress and asked, if the drinks were coming soon. She said, "you didn't order drinks, did you?" And she checked here notes. Then she checked an electronic device and said, "Oh yes, you did. My sister took that order". And she went off to retrieve the drinks. Also, someone at our table asked for red pepper flakes that didn't show up. But then asked a runner for them and they did show up. Again, the food was good, but the service was definitely bumpy.
This was our first time there and it was great! The food and service was excellent. Our server was attentive to details and very good. Would definitely return to try some of the other entries.
My wife and I ordered one appetizer, a salad, and an entree. The spanakopita was doughy and a little undercooked with an oily pile of mixed greens in the center. The octopus salad was better, but only in terms of the grilled octopus which was tender and delicious. The salad it came with was flavorless and drenched in oil, and begging for acid desperately.
The chicken souvlaki was rubbery and kind of charred. The service was not bad, but the wait was a little long...
The best meal we have had at Nemea since it opened. They must have a new chef.
Nemea is my treat to myself every time I'm in San Jose. The food is stellar, the cocktails are lovely and the wait staff is wonderful. Thank you for a lovely dinner.
It just didn't come together like I expected last night and I'm pretty disappointed. The hostess knew it was my birthday but didn't tell the wait staff. I don't need free dessert but maybe a little extra presentation would have been nice. The waiter was nice and he performed satisfactory, but didn't check in quickly enough after our food was brought out. He also messed up our order so the mains were ready before we were even half way done with the starter. Wait staff didn't explain the food at all when they brought it out. One sauce was very spicy (a warning would be nice), and there were things on our plate that weren't listed in the menu so I had to flag down someone to ask what it even was. The restaurant was not busy; they were not understaffed.
The food was hit and miss. My husband liked his lamb. I liked the tzatziki and flourless chocolate cake. We had to send back the soggy fries. The fried eggplant was underseasoned. The tomatoes in the Greek salad were bland, but it is January. The beignets were too chewy through and through. I wish the waiter had asked me if I wanted a second glass of sparkling wine, because at least that was good!
