Food was excellent, particularly shrimp appetizer. Soup different but good.
Food and ambience were great, the service was a bit slow and we had to wait a long time for some service. Actually thought they forgot about us at one point.
Loved the food, the ambiance and the service! I asked the server to make a recommendation and he was spot on with something that I would truly enjoy.
Disappointed. Was much better a year ago or so. Food was over cooked. Bad night in the kitchen or they need a new chef. Will not return.
Had a meal here, but the starter was not well cooked (aubergine) although well presented. Main OK, but expensive for the quality.
A bit pricey but service is great, I just don’t like the location. The VTA train right in front of it doesn’t help
Excellent food and service...One of the best Greek's restaurants in San Jose....
Upon entering the restaurant it was clear they were winding down so being courteous I asked the host about our reservation and if it was a fluke that they were still accepting reservations so late. He saw my name on the books and said its not a problem before then saying, "well it is what it is so." to which I responded that isn't the best way to make us feel welcomed after I asked you if it was ok. We told them we didn't feel too welcome at that point and just politely left. Strange experience, the restaurant looked beautiful. I should note the bartender was the first person we spoke to and he very casually welcomed us in and thought there was nothing wrong with us getting a table at that time.
Great small plates
Came for lunch with a friend. We split a Nemea Salad and the Octopus appetizer. Food was delicious, promptly served, and we enjoyed the ambiance. Both of us have been before and will return!
First visit here at Nemia in 2017, it was absolutely spectacular, the food, the service, everything...this time, not so much. Undercooked orzo, overcooked scallops. Brightest star of the night was our waitress Vanessa, such an awesome personality, and very professional service...not only that...but she had the food down pat, a very valuable employee.
Not worth the 450 dollar bill with tip (4 persons).
We understand the cost of doing business, especially down town, but if the costs are that high, then the food should be on point.
Not doing a one star, just 3 because of the food.
At 6 pm on a Friday downtown was quiet and we were the first people in there. The seat at the window was ideal for people watching! The seats further into the restaurant were very dark... I get them trying to give ambience but when you see people struggling to see the menu and having to use a cell phone light to read that’s a problem! Better candles would help at least! Service was excellent and the food delicious. Octopus and the zucchini cakes as appetizers particularly good. It was perfect for an early dinner before going to the Center for Performing Arts to an 8 pm show. Fairly expensive but everywhere is these days. We’ll be back!!
Both my parents were born in Greece. Been to Greece 5 -6 times and to many many Greek restaurants. Nemea has wonderful ambiance and waitperson was excellent. BUT the food isn't up to the quality of the rest of the place. I have had chicken souvlaki and forno (roast) at different times and they seem to either get low quality chicken or don't know how to cook it. It's tough and the seasonings are off. Had the avgolemono -- egg lemon -- soup a few times. Beautifully presented but again they've got the recipe wrong. Tasted a little biiter.
Too bad really because this could be one of the fine Greek restaurants in the Bay Area.
Food was terribly bland and did not feel authentic.
Food is excellent. Portions are more than generous. Chad, our server, made excellent recommendations and checked in throughout our visit. The vibe is friendly and with celebration. Very pleasant. Great place to dine before going to the Hammer Theatre.
April 6, 2019, excellent experience
Incredible meal. The lamb was fall off the bone/melt in your mouth. Great service, will absolutely be back!
The food and service are solid and Nemea is a much better value than other high-end Greek places in the South Bay. I always enjoy my time here for business or with friends. The wine list is also good with great Greek wines. The fish and meat dishes are superb. The horiatiki is fresh but a little under-seasoned. The fake plants in the windows need to go. And about half the space should be walled off for private events to make the remaining space seem less cavernous and empty. A solid bet for quality food and friendly service—the only downside is the space is just too big and therefore slightly lonely feeling.
The food did not taste good at all - there was a larger quantity of inedible leaves than actual food that I could eat. The service was extremely slow even though we mentioned that were on a time crunch.
Not only their foods are great, but also live music were wonderful!!!
We were very disappointed on this visit. The Greek music playing was way too loud.
The Ribeye steak was a total disappointment. We had it before and looked forward to another one.
A grissled undercooked piece of meat! We were both so disappointed, we will never try it again for that price!
The food is not authentic Greek and the prices are too high.
Their Souvlaki was sweet!
Server in the bar was not attentive given there weren't more than maybe 3-4 people at the bar itself outside our table there was only 2 others tables all the action was in the main room
The vegetarian gyro was good. The spanokopita was cold and didn't taste fresh. It wasn't as flavorful as it should be. But all Greek restaurants make them differently, and I've had better.
Overall good. Hibiscus margs are great. Waiters hands rather dirty.
Nice ambiance, but food quality could be better for the price. Chicken was a bit dry.
Traveling with a group. Nice to have a place to accommodate a larger group and make reservations online.
This is an easy review. My wife and I love Namea. It is our favorite restaraunt in San Jose. This particular dinner was an occasion for my wife & I to catch up with an old friend. As always, the food in Namea is both different and very good. The service is outstanding. And the decor/ambience is very pleasing. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Poorly cooked food (lamb overdone, appetizer too salty to eat). Wine pour was like 3 oz for glass until complained. Service officious and slow... very slow.
My pork chop with cabbage was delicious, as were my husband's scallops. Yogurt with honey and berries was fantastic. Nice decor, great service. I love seeing the street outside. Romantic and relaxing.
Food was good--Mousakah (excellent), Calamari (so/so). Prices are quite high for the quality, but I know the area commands higher prices. The service and the ambience are excellent.
The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, and was a bit "fancier" than I expected when I saw a review that the prices were $$, as opposed to $$$ or $$$.
Overall, I was disappointed in the value. I think my biggest mistake was ordering the fried cheese for $15 and the lamb meatballs for $14 where there were 4 small meatballs. Very small portions for the price. Another example would be the chicken souvlaki had 4 pieces of chicken and perhaps only a couple tablespoons of orzo. I was surprised. The chicken was dry and had no flavor except for the expected 'charred' taste of the grill. The beef souvlaki tasted well though cold, and only 3 pieces and 4 potato wedges. All of this would have been fine, except for the prices were from approximately $26 to $33. The best meal we ordered was the grilled double cut pork chop. Though it was higher than needed at $36, it was the largest portion and very tasty.
Way overpriced for quality of food. Most of our orders arrived lukewarm
Nemea is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is tasty and there is a lot of variety. They serve small plates as well as main courses and sometimes it is very hard to choose whether to get a main course or just make a meal of small plate selections. Some of the small plates are not that small, though, so when it's just two people dining, there is a good chance you'll have something to take home. But that's not a problem!
Had a small staff lunch here and it was fantastic!
Simply overpriced cocktails and food - what a joke. I will not recommend this to any of my friends and I don't plan ever to go back. Really - greek food is not that all expensive to produce even authentic and the portion were small again for the coast. The music was too loud; my date and I had to scream at each other while dinning. And it was cold too. The server was just okay and not really attentive. I expect to be served like a king when I pay this much for a meal. The only + is that the place is visually appealing. Otherwise Nemea is simply a rip off.
We've been to Nemea many times, and it is one of our favorites. Our experience from last Saturday made us wonder if they have a new chef or some other change in the kitchen. Whilst the food was still delicious, it did not have the usual outstanding quality and elegance. In this case, we chose six different items form the starter menu to compose out dinner: brussels sprouts, octopus, dolmas, stuffed mushrooms, lamb meatballs, tiger prawns. All of those we've had before. That evening, almost everything seemed to have been drowned in sauce, and the sweet pepper compote or variations of sweet pepper accoutrements seemed to accompany almost everything. I had to ask what one dish actually was, as all I could see were the peppers in a red sauce - it was the prawns, which I had to find and fish out of the mass of red. The stuffed mushrooms as well disappeared in their sauce - whilst delicious, it was just too much. Even the octopus, which was very good, had the accompanying dry arugula (i.e. no dressing) sprinkled with peppers. The meatballs seemed overcooked, with a dark crust. All of those unusual presentations, plus the fact that we only got bread delivered shortly before the food arrived, was not up to Nemea's otherwise ecxellent standard. Our server was very good; she apologized profusely for the lack of IPAs and made sure we were not forgotten in the corner tucked away in the back - which is otherwise a good place to be, away from the noise of live music and general restaurant clamor.
Appetizers were quite good, but entrees and dessert I had were forgettable. Ambience is good and service is excellent. I might go back to try different items from the menu.
The food was fantastic! Great experience.
Good Greek food, nice ambiance and the wait staff was so attentive!
