Hercules defeated the Nemean lion and then probably enjoyed an excellent glass (or amphora) of Nemean wine. Nemea is a noted wine & food capitol of Pelopennese in southern Greece. Our food is influenced primarily by the flavors of the Pelopennese with accents from all of Greece. We boast an amazing wine list with many great wines from Greece, the Mediterranean and around the world. Come in and let our mixologists make you a craft cocktail or enjoy a well made classic martini as you enjoy the best Greek food in San Jose! We look forward to serving you.

Nemea Ratings and Reviews
Fabulous food. Great atmosphere with the live musicians. Customers dancing. Celebrating a birthday was so much fun. The manager was exceptionally attentive. The food was incredible. Accommodated dietary needs such as gluten-free, vegetarian, dairy free. Definitely an amazing experience!
Ordered Greek red wine sampler. Also Ordered saganaki cheese for appetizer. Flamed it 20 feet from the table. Set it down without wine, without Pita bread. Wine showed up After we finished appetizer. Drank wine while waiting for octapodi salad. Finished wine while eating salad which was tasty. Ordered 2 glasses of wine. Dinner shows up. Lamb souvlaki was very good. Would have been better with wine. Wine showed up at the end of the meal. But we chanced it. Ordered nemea special dessert with Greek coffee and with sherry. Sherry showed up, but you guessed it... coffee showed up after dessert.
Wine goes with the meal. Not after.
Coffee goes with the dessert. Not after.
Total bill was $160. Paid it and left. Used to love this place. But I expect at least a little more attention to detail at $80 per person.
We were in San Jose for a conference and enjoyed our first meal at Nemea so much that we went back again 2 nights later! All the food was great but we can particularly recommend the crispy calamari, the octopus, the lamb medallions and the moussaka (which is huge). Great cocktails and we chose Greek red wine - they offer a flight of 3 red or white wines if you want to try a few.
The food had some really interesting flavors but never seemed to fully hit the mark. First bites were often impressive but then second and third bites seemed to change to 'odd' or to 'overwhelming'. We ordered a chicken dish and a fish dish, both of which were somewhat overcooked. The side dishes were the highlights - but with the issues as described above. Best part of the meal? We had a flaming cheese appetizer that produced both a good show, and great flavor. On the whole, lots of promise that never seemed to quite deliver.
It's been our second time in Nemea, we were really impressed first time so we looked forward to eat there again. It was good, but not great- lamb was too fatty and lacking taste ( balsamic reduction would be really complementing) and whole sea bass didn't have that fresh feel as before. It was a bit disappointing. I would like food quality to be more consistent.
We went here pre theatre. We sat down and right away noticed the appetizer plate was dirty. We were seated at a tiny table by the window that seemed to slant downhill. The waiter was nice. The busboy brought the bread basket quickly and gave us oil, and about 1 drop of vinegar in the oil but did not leave the vinegar. We had to ask 2 more times for more vinegar. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts with date appetizer and the stuffed mushrooms. Both were delicious. Save the mushroom sauce so you can add it to your bland entrees. We ordered the scallops entree and the risotto. Both were not worth the price and very bland. The scallops came with 3 overcooked scallops for 34.00 and rice mixed with a few mushrooms and smothered in yogurt sauce. The combo of flavors was horrible. The asparagus risotto was bland with almost no flavor and the rice grains were huge and not creamy. Bottom line , skip entrees and go for happy hour appetizers only or it's a huge ripoff.
We came for the Dine Downtown SJ Prix Fix menu and were pleasantly surprised with the sheer amount of food we received. A full 5-course meal with FULL SIZE entrees! It was so much food we took a few courses home for lunch the following day. Our server was attentive and professional and took very good care of us. The turkish coffee at the end of the meal tasted burnt and grainy, but the rest of the food was amazing - especially the desserts! One of my favorite restaurants downtown, I will definitely come back again.
Food was delicious. We came at lunch and there were very few other tables there, but our service was painfully slow (just to order drinks or a side of tzatziki). I don't know why everything took so long. They also seemed to be out of half the beers on the menu.
Finally went to Nemea on a prix fix special night and now thinking "Why did we wait so long?!" Starting with the service this place is top notch. Our server, Chad, was calm, attentive and confident in his recommendations. Began with cocktails which were excellent. Assuming most people are not familiar with Greek wines they offer both red and white wine fights which we ordered with our meals. (Excellent wines BTW) Then the food started to come and was it ever delicious and more than enough. The highlight was the calamari appetizer and the lamb rib chops dinner. Can not recommend it highly enough.
Our waiter was great...the food was very good. The only thing was
that there were 3 people in our group that ordered the scallop entree.
I think it was around 30 plus dollars...they got 3 scallops ..which was kind of ridiculous.
I would go there for drinks and appetizers..not dinner.
Sadness. This is not Kokari, nowhere near. Don't be misled.
I'll give it three stars for relatively attentive service and decent avogo lemono soup. We were seated promptly for our 7:45 reservation (although they reported us as a no show to Open Table). We quickly ordered apps and cocktails and entrees at the same time. Apps came after awhile. Then after a long wait, they tried to give us the same apps again. Bad sign. We declined. Around 9:00, we inquired when we might see entrees. The server said she'd ask the manager, and returned with an "about 5 minutes". It was, but by then closer to 9:30. Almost two hours in after a long day at the convention center.
The moussaka was well seasoned, but horribly overcooked. The eggplant and potatoes were undetectable mush, the bechamel burned to a crisp, leaving you with a one-dimensional giant bowl of lamb burger and mush, with burned bits on top. The husband's scallops and risotto dish had three small salty scallops and a soupy pile of undercooked rice with a few bits of slimy spinach and canned mushrooms stirred in. No way did it resemble risotto. The tab was well over $100 bucks for 2 people, with one cocktail each and one glass of mediocre wine. Watch out for those cocktails with no price listed...
Yes, they had a couple of large tables, but it was nowhere near full. Just woefully unprepared. Probably won't be back, certainly never with business associates.
We had a party of 6 on a Thursday night so there were no crowds and seating was immediate, even with our party straggling in. Service was attentive but not rushed. Overall, the food was very good even though the risotto dish was a bit bland. We will definitely go back again.
Stopped by on a recommendation to check this place out. It is in the old "E&O Trading" restaurant location. The place shows well and the service, hospitality was outstanding (the Mgr and Chef even came to our table to meet us).
The Mousaka was out of this world delicious...the best we've ever had. Highly recommend.
Wonderful meal---both entrees. Meat was cooked to perfection and sauces were perfectly seasoned. Wonderful selection of beets topped with sliced sirloin was the Special of the Day and I would highly recommend it. Rice pudding for dessert was interesting but a bit too sweet.
Decor is a bit shabby with torn leather on booth seats and dirty windows facing street.
Saturday night pre-concert dinner for two. We had four starters and one entrée: stuffed mushrooms, lamb riblet, octapodi, brussels sprouts, and pan-seared Ahi. The octapodi were succulent and cooked in a garlic jus that had just the right amount of seasoning; very delicious. The stuffed mushrooms could work as a main dish with some other veg or a salad: they are very rich with their feta filling and creamy sauce, for which I needed the bread to soak up every last drop, it was so good. The brussels sprouts were good, but I prefer them without liquid, so I'd probably not order them again. Lamb riblets cooked to perfection on a bed of lettuce. The ahi was delicate and accompanied by couscous and grilled veg - my mistake for eating too much of the mushrooms, as I left the eggplant mainly uneaten, not because it wasn't good, because it was too much. The squash were perfect, with the smokey flavor of the grill. Accompanied by a flight of the Greek red wines, it was a perfect meal. No room for dessert.
Appetizers were all amazing. I'm not Greek myself, but I'm from Southern Europe and I have an idea of Mediterranean flavors. Stuffed mushrooms were tender and flatbread was very well thought through.
Mains were also good, but less so than appetizers. My main (chicken with cauliflower) was much bigger than my friends' mains (which was not great in itself) and it did not impress me. Chicken was perfectly cooked though, still very juicy, but all the pink was gone. My friends liked the salmon and the bass a lot.
