About Nemea

Hercules defeated the Nemean lion and then probably enjoyed an excellent glass (or amphora) of Nemean wine. Nemea is a noted wine & food capitol of Pelopennese in southern Greece. Our food is influenced primarily by the flavors of the Pelopennese with accents from all of Greece. We boast an amazing wine list with many great wines from Greece, the Mediterranean and around the world. Come in and let our mixologists make you a craft cocktail or enjoy a well made classic martini as you enjoy the best Greek food in San Jose! We look forward to serving you.

I don't think they know how to handle large parties...

Unfortunately, our group of 10 (with reservation) came in the same time as another group of 26 from another party. The result was entrees that arrived 90+ minutes after we sat down for dinner and entrees that were of uneven temperature... parts of the dish were cold or lukewarm on some meals. And while every one else received their meal, one entree for our table was missing at the end... not sure what happened there, but she got it a few minutes later. This guest also likes champagne drinks, but sadly they were out of champagne so one (or two?) of their featured drinks were unavailable. We thought two hours would be plenty of time for a nice dinner before a show, but it wasn't enough, and two of the guests left without getting their meals so they could hold spots in line for the rest of the group (the restaurant kindly packaged them to go, and the guests that stayed behind brought these meals).

The restaurant (or our server?) kindly comp'd a couple of the drinks and we have celebrated some nice meals there in the past, but they really let us down this time and it will be difficult to return here with a larger group.

We were a party of 7 for dinner at Nemea. We had a large variety of food choices. The favorites on the table were the riblets and calamari. I would love to dine here again

We arrived after the Sharks game started and had a reservation. We will were seated quickly close to their private room which is fairly open. There was a bachelorette's party in the room and they were a bit loud. The couple at the table next to us asked to be re-seated away from the noise.

The appetizer we ordered was 15 minutes late but the manager acknowledged the delay and brought a different appetizer and comp’d both appetizers. Everything else went according to plan except the waitress forgot my wife's 2nd glass of wine after we finally got the meals. It was a bit chaotic even though not crowded. Service was rated well given the concessions.

Pros: Accommodating and attentive wait staff. Brussel sprout+date appetizer was great and we loved our Greek white wine. Cons: Veggies on my main entree were served lukewarm and chicken was cooked well but I felt was underseasoned.

My date loved her plate of scallops (win!) but I worry about the consistency of the kitchen as she easily could have ordered the same entree and had the same temp+seasoning issues.

All the food was really good, tastefully seasoned, nice presentation, lamb, veggies, fish, beef, the best octopus I’ve ever had-soft, supple & tender. The only disappointment was the Baklava, but the chocolate cake made up for it. Nice wine selection too.

My daughter and I had a reservation for 6 PM on a Saturday night. We chose an early time hoping we would get served faster. Boy were we wrong. Dinner lasted two and a half hours, making us late to a concert. And when the dishes finally came we only enjoyed one of them. They need to improve their service and quality of food. It was very expensive and a big disappointment. We won’t be going back.

I am not sure where the disconnect was, but we received the wrong appetizer, and then one person got their soup, then after a very long wait everyone else received their soups and salads along with their main entrées all at the same time. We didn’t know if we should eat our soup and salad and later entrée get cold or take the entrée home and eat our salads and soups. Overall very disappointing.

Although the food was delicious, the portions were ridiculously large for one person. Every dish we ordered could have been shared by at least two people, possibly three, including the side dishes, soup and salad.

My butternut squash soup was delicious! I wish the brussel sprouts would have been roasted- they were soggy. Service was ok. Pleasant lighting. I liked being able to watch the street and people watch. Loud, vocal music was obnoxious- please play instrumental/acoustic music.

Very nice modern interior design, a lot of space & air, Greece style in wall painting and cuisine. Greece vine. One feature only need to make Nevea the best is live Greece music. Not only in Friday.

My colleague and I had a delicious dinner, sharing a seasonal butternut squash salad and Octopus for our first courses. The portions were large and we were so full that we ate only a little of the Moussaka for our main course. The waiter seemed very knowledgeable about wines, and I liked the Santonrini Savignon Blanc he recommended.

The only down side was the noise from the band nearby. I liked their traditional, Greek music, but it was very difficult to talk after they started.

Food was not great. I really expected more. What beautiful restaurant but the Sea Bass was over cooked. Steak did’t have a lot of flavor. Chocolate lava cake overdone and had a weird texture. However, the House wine was fantastic. I bought a whole bottle to take home. Overall, I would only return for the wine, bread and cheese. I’m not sold on the dinners.

Nice environment, clean. Service was very good. Food was disappointing. Ordered the chicken kabobs (souvlaki) which came with rice. There were 4 small pieces of chicken 3 very thin pieces of onion and 3 pieces of thin zucchini. The rice was wet and sour tasking. Same dish at any number of greek or Iranian restaurants in SJ area have 2 or 3X the amount of chicken and vegetables. Would not go back to Nemea.

This was our first visit here. Our meal was great, and we plan to return. All of our dishes were well prepared, although there were some we preferred more than others. My husband ordered the lamb chops, and I stared jealously at them throughout the meal. It was by far the most delicious item we ordered. We also got the Brussels sprouts, which were stewed in a sweet (from dates) and garlicky sauce- not our personal favorite, but still delicious. Our daughter ordered the traditional lemon chicken soup. It was presented beautifully, but thinner than expected. She didn't care for it. My entree was the scallops with risotto. It was very good, although only came with 3 medium-size scallops. It didn't compare to my husband's 3 massive, double cut lamb chops at a comparable price. We also ordered the white and red Greek wine flights, and loved them all. The food was consistently good. We would go back for the lamb chops for sure, as well as a few other interesting sounding items.

TL;DT - Beautiful / romantic atmosphere. Good service. Decent food, but overpriced for what you get. Do NOT get the spanicopita.

Came on a night w live music which I was initially excited about. However, despite sitting all the way at the opposite side of the room, it was far too loud to catch up with my family/friends which was the reason for dinner.
The spanicopita (sp?), a classic Mediterranean dish and menu staple, wasn't actually spanicopita - baaaarrrely any spinach/feta filling at all - just filo dough bites.
The octopus was decent as were the lamb riblets and musaka (note: served in a French onion shop dish), but I've had better at other restaurants.
When I ordered another round of beer for myself after the server asked if I wanted another, the server brought me the same beer, but in a smaller glass than the pint glass I had originally gotten... without my specifying or her asking if I wanted a smaller beer.

Even though I ended up having the most ridiculous (in a bad way) date in my life, the waiter was patient, helpful, professional with the service and communication. The food was great, although not cheap for sure, fairky priced given the quality and ambience. I wish I had had more opportunity to try more of it. Will be back for sure.

My entree had no seasoning (salt, lemon, oregano...) The roasted potatoes had no seasoning, tasted like bad fries. I was expecting Greek food, not midwestern food.
If I want Greek food, I’ll go somewhere else.
The desserts were my least favorite. Not authentic, but if the general public likes non-Greek food, then it makes sense.

We arrived for an early pre-show dinner, our first time here. Found the atmosphere very pleasing to the eye and to the ear. Most restaurants are small, dark and noisy, this was just the opposite. It was open to the street, first and San Fernando, bustling activity outside, but nice and pleasant inside. The waitress was a little slow to begin with, but once our other couple arrived she was on the ball. We loved the olive oil and balsamic dipping sauce with the great bread. The simplest things were the best, bread, olive oil and balsamic. Each couple ordered a salad to share and they were both awesome, Horiatiki and the watermelon and greens salad, so good. My main dish was mediocre, the Mousaka, was not like the traditional Mousaka, had too much ground beef and very little eggplant. Should have listened to the waitress who recommended the pastitsio. Hubby had Ribeye steak, it was good, but a little underdone. beers and wine were good and desserts were both very tasty. Would go again.

The four of us made a meal of small plates before a play at the SJ Stage Co. The grilled octopus was as tender and tasty as always, and the watermelon and feta salad was a huge hit. The lamb riblets were very tasty, but we missed their old lamb chop appetizers. The fried smelt reminded my twin brother and me of Aegina in Greece. The only disappointment was the brussel sprouts due to an unnecessary and soggy sauce; these would be far better if simply grilled or roasted with lemon. Combined with their lovely craft cocktails plus Mythos beer and a nice Syrah, Nemea didn't disappoint.

The service was terrible! Our group's drinks came out at different times, and so did our food. Two people in our party ordered the same drink and the drinks came out looking and tasting differently. The waitress blamed the new barman! We had to wait 10 minutes for one person's food to arrive while the rest were getting cold! Customer service is a lost art in this place and I would not recommend this restaurant.

Searched all around for a Greek restaurant that checked all the boxes and decided to try Nemea. The food was fantastic, and the service was great. The restaurant is well-lit (I find most places too dark), and shockingly easy to get a reservation. They seemed to have trouble filling the place on a Friday night, but I can't seem to see why. The only problem we had was that the live music was too loud. It made it hard to carry on a conversation.

Food is fabulous as usual. It is indeed my favorite restaurant in San Jose. The only thing I don't appreciate is the volume of live music: it's hard to have a good conversation when the band is there! I will avoid those evenings and go when it's quiter.
