Great selection of Greek food - I'm a pescatarian, and there was plenty for me to chow down. Not big on the carbs, but oh my, the rest is outstanding. Great service.
We enjoyed our meal and our server. Food was tasty. Only trouble was with paying the bill. The bill came to $217. We had a $200 Visa Gift Card and gave $60 cash as payment for the remainder and tip. The server told us there was not enough funds on the card and it was rejected but we realized after the fact that she was trying to charge $217 to the card when she should have only charged $200 as instructed. After a couple of rounds back and forth, we gave her a regular credit card and she was able to complete the payment but in the end we ended up paying an additional $17 more than needed.
Food was okay, service good, nice ambience, somewhat costly for the so-so food.
Food was mixed. Some things were good (lamb chops, octopus) others, not so much. The "whole" sea bass was about 3 oz. of fish for $38. A whole minnow evidently. The moussaka was served cold and no one bothered to apologize when we pointed that out. Instead, they silently took it away and returned it at roughly the temperature of the sun; that should teach us to complain. We asked for a refill on the bread four times before it eventually showed up.
The worst part of the meal was the deceit on the check. We split the check to two cards, but the recommended tip they provided on each check was based on the full price of the meal, not the split. If you didn't read carefully and followed their recommendation, you easily could have ended up tipping 40%. I had been a fairly regular customer, but won't be back.
Our third time at Nemea and can now that they have consistently excellent food and service. Try the octopus—it's extraordinary. Their specialty cocktails are wonderful as well. The service is friendly and professional.
mousaka was very good but portion was too large. The ragu at the bottom was a little dry but still delicious.
Restaurant help and menu quite good.
Very interesting food and in Greek
Good service and good customer service I will recommend this restaurant
Had a wonderful evening. Jessica, our server, was attentive and helpful. My husband ordered the Octapodi Salata and really enjoyed it. I had the Kotopoulo Souvlas and enjoyed each element (and mixing the elements). We had the Lukoumathes (Beignets) for dessert -- light and very tasty. Had a really pleasant evening, after catching some of the San Jose Jazz Winterfest at the San Jose Museum of Art - great combination of culture!
Delicious food. All the appetizers were good and my main lamb dish was amazing. The wine paired well. However the cost can easily add up and the final bill could surprise you.
Food was problematic
Riblets came burnt and we sent back and they came back ok.
Entree was undercooked(pink) when we requested well done so we sent back the entree. They were saying they would put it in the oven for 15 minutes. When it came back, it was the same(pink) and not even hot. Clearly, it was never put in the oven.
Nine of our close friends had a group Valentines dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the extensive pre-fixe menu, fabulous food and Greek wines, exceptional service, and the ambience of their open wine cellar room.
Valentine's Day dinner reservations today, we have been to this restaurant several times but not since they changed chefs. It was a price fixed menu, The meals started good , we had a 4 dips each unique and flavorful with 4 warm pieces of flat bread. Followed by your choice of two appetizers we chose the grilled octopus which was tender and delicious our second was the zucchini cakes they were bland and definitely could've used some salt. Next dish was the lemon soup and a salad both nice dishes, entrée was the beef filet nicely cooked with aside of greens & potatoes. My entree was chicken Slouvaki with orzo, & greens, total disappointment 3 tiny pieces of chicken two pieces of grilled onion & one piece of zucchini, the orzo pasta had one note balsamic just vinegar, to top it off the dish was lukewarm. Not what you expect for the price. I mentioned this to the waitress and she replied I'll tell the manager. Dessert was good and service was attentive. Not sure it's worth a trip back based on value and quality.
This was our first time to Nemea. The food was fresh and healthy. Very enjoyable experience.
I have never written a restaurant review before, but I was so dissatisfied with our entire experience from the food, to the service and the spoiled meat. Even without the meat that was spoiled, I would not return. The evening was so ruined that the manager rightly comped us our entire dinner minus drinks. Our waitress was fine, but avoid our table once she realized our meals were ruined.
There was 4 of us dining and first one of our appetizers was forgotten and when it arrived it was burned and dry. The servers never returned to refill our waters or drinks. 3 of the meals arrived and then things became unbearable. Our 4th dinner was delayed and we had to keep flagging down staff for help. After 25 minutes, the 3 meals were cold and the 4th arrived. It was a double cut pork chop that was absolutely rancid. All of us could smell the spoiled meat. Our 3 fish dishes were dried out on top of mushy vegetables and instead of risotto with scallops they gave us rice.
We again had to flag down anybody, send the rancid dinner back and wait for a manager and did not offer drinks. We had to wait for more water and some bread for our friend who did not get a meal. The manager was conciliatory. Our goal was a nice evening and this restaurant is expensive. Having out dinners comped was the right thing to do, but did not make up for the food and service.
Excellent food, wine. Risotto and scallops were our main dishes with octopi for appetizer, all were very good.
very tasty , great flavors ! recommend the prawns & burnt cheese
Nemea is a favorite downtown San Jose dinner spot. The flavors and quality of the food are consistent. Service is top notch. We especially dine here before the theatre or concert. Staff is most accommodating about time. Everything delicious.
Overall, the experience at Nemea was positive. The food was good, the menu choices were good, and the ambiance was comfortable. However, the service was kind of all over the place. One gal took our drink order and then someone else took our food order. Appetizer arrived and about halfway through the appetizer, I flagged down our waitress and asked, if the drinks were coming soon. She said, "you didn't order drinks, did you?" And she checked here notes. Then she checked an electronic device and said, "Oh yes, you did. My sister took that order". And she went off to retrieve the drinks. Also, someone at our table asked for red pepper flakes that didn't show up. But then asked a runner for them and they did show up. Again, the food was good, but the service was definitely bumpy.
This was our first time there and it was great! The food and service was excellent. Our server was attentive to details and very good. Would definitely return to try some of the other entries.
My wife and I ordered one appetizer, a salad, and an entree. The spanakopita was doughy and a little undercooked with an oily pile of mixed greens in the center. The octopus salad was better, but only in terms of the grilled octopus which was tender and delicious. The salad it came with was flavorless and drenched in oil, and begging for acid desperately.
The chicken souvlaki was rubbery and kind of charred. The service was not bad, but the wait was a little long...
The best meal we have had at Nemea since it opened. They must have a new chef.
Nemea is my treat to myself every time I'm in San Jose. The food is stellar, the cocktails are lovely and the wait staff is wonderful. Thank you for a lovely dinner.
It just didn't come together like I expected last night and I'm pretty disappointed. The hostess knew it was my birthday but didn't tell the wait staff. I don't need free dessert but maybe a little extra presentation would have been nice. The waiter was nice and he performed satisfactory, but didn't check in quickly enough after our food was brought out. He also messed up our order so the mains were ready before we were even half way done with the starter. Wait staff didn't explain the food at all when they brought it out. One sauce was very spicy (a warning would be nice), and there were things on our plate that weren't listed in the menu so I had to flag down someone to ask what it even was. The restaurant was not busy; they were not understaffed.
The food was hit and miss. My husband liked his lamb. I liked the tzatziki and flourless chocolate cake. We had to send back the soggy fries. The fried eggplant was underseasoned. The tomatoes in the Greek salad were bland, but it is January. The beignets were too chewy through and through. I wish the waiter had asked me if I wanted a second glass of sparkling wine, because at least that was good!
Excellent creative dishes. Good selection of starters. We made a meal of multiple starters. Good bar, cocktails and selection of top shelf whiskey. Great place for a date & conversation.
We had the flaming cheese, it was SOOO GOOOOOOD.... everything we had was really good. I have been to Greece a few times and I have to say this food was very good. If you like Greek Food and you are in San Jose, I totally recommend this place.
Everything went well for dinner, but the problem came when I got home. The waitress gave me the wrong doggie bag and I didn't want to eat my friend's entree, so I had no leftovers to enjoy. Had I known that I would have lowered the tip.
We loved the greek food, I had an octopus salad, loved it, my wife had the lamb chops, best she ever had and she is greek. The appetizers were great as were the wines, the sommelier-in-training was very helpful. Wonderful experience on Christmas eve and my wife's birthday. We will do this again next year.
We had superb meals, with servings that were very generous. Nemea is quite generous as well when you order wine by the glass. The restaurant is very, very loud when crowded, however.
The saganaki was limp, the lemon soup was too salty and the moussaka was very potato. I was very upset when they brought a big bowl of soup for both of us and then did not even serve it. They took it away and poured it into individual bowls and brought it back to table. I had asked for a ladle but they did not have them. The waitress gave some excuse that they did not split. Very unprofessional. I guess I am still looking for a good Greek restaurant like I had in Chicago. Definitely not this one.
Worse Open table experience ever. This was our 12th Open table reservation this year. The restaurant had half it's tables open but they were clearly interested in getting us out of the place asap. The waitress was quick to want to get our orders and after that we never saw her again except when she bought us the check. The two glasses of Greek Syrah were very good, but our appetizer and salad arrived together, with the Spanakopita cold, and we were not halfway done with our Octapodi Salad (which was good) when our main courses arrived, bought to the table by a server. Never got offered another glass of wine which I was ready for. We had to bus our places in order to move on to main courses, Greek Chicken and Grilled Tuna, but everything was cold. These were not inexpensive mains and with little to no service we returned our mains basically untouched and asked for our check--that took ten minutes . None came to talk to us and we got a luke warm "so sorry" from the waitress. This place looked very nice and we were very disappointed. Look elsewhere if you go to San Jose, we think we'll stick to San Francisco and the East Bay for our dining.
I don't think they know how to handle large parties...
Unfortunately, our group of 10 (with reservation) came in the same time as another group of 26 from another party. The result was entrees that arrived 90+ minutes after we sat down for dinner and entrees that were of uneven temperature... parts of the dish were cold or lukewarm on some meals. And while every one else received their meal, one entree for our table was missing at the end... not sure what happened there, but she got it a few minutes later. This guest also likes champagne drinks, but sadly they were out of champagne so one (or two?) of their featured drinks were unavailable. We thought two hours would be plenty of time for a nice dinner before a show, but it wasn't enough, and two of the guests left without getting their meals so they could hold spots in line for the rest of the group (the restaurant kindly packaged them to go, and the guests that stayed behind brought these meals).
The restaurant (or our server?) kindly comp'd a couple of the drinks and we have celebrated some nice meals there in the past, but they really let us down this time and it will be difficult to return here with a larger group.
We were a party of 7 for dinner at Nemea. We had a large variety of food choices. The favorites on the table were the riblets and calamari. I would love to dine here again
We arrived after the Sharks game started and had a reservation. We will were seated quickly close to their private room which is fairly open. There was a bachelorette's party in the room and they were a bit loud. The couple at the table next to us asked to be re-seated away from the noise.
The appetizer we ordered was 15 minutes late but the manager acknowledged the delay and brought a different appetizer and comp’d both appetizers. Everything else went according to plan except the waitress forgot my wife's 2nd glass of wine after we finally got the meals. It was a bit chaotic even though not crowded. Service was rated well given the concessions.
Pros: Accommodating and attentive wait staff. Brussel sprout+date appetizer was great and we loved our Greek white wine. Cons: Veggies on my main entree were served lukewarm and chicken was cooked well but I felt was underseasoned.
My date loved her plate of scallops (win!) but I worry about the consistency of the kitchen as she easily could have ordered the same entree and had the same temp+seasoning issues.
All in all a good experience...music was a little loud but I like live music and it’s so hard to find in San Jose...either way good choice
Anniversary dinnner was great!
All the food was really good, tastefully seasoned, nice presentation, lamb, veggies, fish, beef, the best octopus I’ve ever had-soft, supple & tender. The only disappointment was the Baklava, but the chocolate cake made up for it. Nice wine selection too.
My daughter and I had a reservation for 6 PM on a Saturday night. We chose an early time hoping we would get served faster. Boy were we wrong. Dinner lasted two and a half hours, making us late to a concert. And when the dishes finally came we only enjoyed one of them. They need to improve their service and quality of food. It was very expensive and a big disappointment. We won’t be going back.
Awesome Greek food perfect before our show at the Silicon Valley Symphony
