For a Valentine's Day set menu, the food was lacking in so many areas. I think their quality of food and their prices are far out of sync. Disappointed and my waiter was very hasty and unaware of social cues. He took my plates away and I was still trying to finish my food.
Service was really bad and portion too small for 85 dollars a person! Don't go there on special occasions!!
Very expensive for the quality of the food. Would not go back.
Valentines’ day pris fixe dinner: my husband and I chose memea as we love Greek food! Overall we were disappointed with the quality of the food - 1st course: pita did not appear to be “homemade”, like any other toasted bread, dips were varied and very good. 2nd course: salad nice looking, but not well seasoned and my husband’s phyllo appetizer just ordinary. 3rd course (entree) I chose grilled lamb chops - superb; my husband’s beef and mushroom Shish kebab - beef not tender and not generous portion. Dessert selections - just okay. I wanted to like this restaurant since I feel sorry for restaurants struggling in this area of downtown San Jose. Our waiter was very good however - attentive and personable. Unfortunately will go back to this restaurant. Disappointed....
Food was good. They didn’t have the wine we ordered. Service was acceptable. Switched waiters on us. Didn’t offer tap water as a choice initially, only bottled water.
Service was very good - some people needed to be out by 1 (we arrived at noon) and they were accomodating. Restaurant wasn't busy so noise level was low. Food was just okay. We had the baba ghanoush and hummus appetizers which were small portions compared to the price, but tasted fine - not special. Bread and pita was fresh and very good. I had the lamb burger which I didn't like that much. It had a little gamey taste and I didn't like the texture of the burger - felt like the meat was over processed. I've eaten here before and loved the food, but this was my first time having the burger which the waiter recommended over the lamb gyro. I wouldn't order it again. I've had lamb burgers at other establishments that were tasty and juicy without being gamey.
The service was absolutely horrendous. Our main course was not delivered and there was no update from the waiter. After waiting for a long time, the waiter made some excuse that one of the dish is taking longer to cook. Most likely, he forgot to add it to the queue. And when the food came, the dish did not taste good.
Horrible experience. I will not recommend Nemea to a friend, and will also tell them not to go here.
The food at Nemea is good but the service lacks. The white wine by the glass I ordered hadn't been chilled so I had to select an alternate. I had to ask for water 3 times at the bar. There wa a long black hair in our water at the dinner table. Our food was delayed because a table of 20 had ordered before us.
On the positive, their octopus is always excellent. The lamb chops were very tender and not overly seasoned with salt (a positive) but they were on the far side of medium-rare - barely pink center. Overall, not the service expected for almost $300 for two people for cocktails, wine, and dinner and shared appetizer.
It's a comfortable atmosphere with superb service and the best lamb chops I've ever had!
Hi Stephen, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review! We are glad you enjoyed the lamb and we hope to have you back soon!
Lovely location for downtown SJ theaters. Food needs more spice, flavors.

Great food - awesome venue - nice energy
Hi Chris, We really appreciate your kind words and the time you took to leave a review. Thanks for coming in and we hope to see you again soon!
Service was slow when we were there. Quality of the food was also disappointing given the price. Acceptable is about all I could say.
Overall a great experience. Our friends really enjoyed it there. I got the octopus appetizer, which is always good. Although I don’t think the pricing is outrageous, it didn’t seem comparable with other restaurants targeting same food/service customers.
Enjoyed a great dinner with 4 friends before we headed down to the CA Theatre for a performance of “The Red Violin.” Loved the food, especially because we could order small plates to share. We had tasty stuffed mushrooms in a delicious sauce, fried calamari with yummy aioli, a delicious beet salad, with several more small plates. The service was impeccable and they took care to get us out in time for our performance. Nemea is spacious and beautifully decorated. It was quiet at our 5:30 seating so we could converse together and actually hear each other. I plan to return when dining downtown in San Jose again.
Hi Christine, We really appreciate your kind words and the time you took to leave a review. We look forward to your next visit! Thank you!
Food was very good. Had the sampler platter and the zucchini cakes for appetizers. Zucchini cakes were excellent. Bread came with a dipping sauce which was also excellent. Shared Mediterranean Sea Bass entree. The accompanying potatoes were very good but we thought the braised greens were too salty and overly oily (olive oil). We also shared the lamb shank. The meat was tender and flavorful. The spicing & jus of the accompanying orzo was a little too sweet for us. Service was excellent. Decor was very thoughtful and tasteful. Restaurant is conveniently located to downtown entertainment venues and parking. The light rail runs right by the restaurant which would be ideal to take if you lived in the area.
Excellent venue in the middle of Downtown San Jose. Interior is very nicely done. The wait staff was very attentive. The dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious. A little on the costly side, but, over all, well worth it.
Hi Timothy, We really appreciate your kind words and the time you took to leave a review. We hope to see you again soon!
Service was poor. First they ignored us for a good 20 minutes Then they removed our bread plates after our appetizers while some of us were still eating bread. Followed serving us our main entre and salads at the same time. We forgo the salads and ate the main dish. They need to get their act together.
Everything was soaked in oil or dressing. Greek salad was drenched in dressing. There was like a cup of dressing in the bottom. Do the cucumber and tomatoe were just limp. The fried calamari was soaked in oil. So the breading just fell off. Had the beef fillet which was fine but it was topped with some orange aioli.
We arrived at 6 and ordered as soon as we sat down. Drinks were nice. They asked if we had somewhere to be after and we said we were going to a show and had to be out by around 6:55. At 7 we left having never been served our food. There were about 6 tables occupied. I was looking forward to the food but never got it.
Great service and food!
Service was excellent and engaged. Our server provided great recommendations for cocktails, food, and wine.. The saganaki and octopus appetizers were excellent. The lamb chops were out of this world! The portion was generous and perfectly prepared. The desert was perfectly balanced and provided an exclamation point on a great meal.
Hostess could not find our Reservation. I advised that I placed the Reservation via Open Table and confirmed the Reservation the day before. Hostess went ahead and seated us.
Other than the issue with the Reservation, everything was very good.
Appetizer portions are tiny. Eggplant spread was good, but the spanakopita was just OK. Service was slow to nonexistent; about 30 minutes after we order our waiter came back and told us our order was never entered, and that he had forgotten what we ordered. Lamb shank was just average.
Horribly loud due to a huge private party in the dining room. We should have sat in the bar area. Portions are very small, shrimp was overcooked. Also, I get annoyed with the gratuity charge for our party of six...we would have tipped more if we were able to decide.
We found the entrees to be very expensive so we each opted for salad and appetizer. It’s disappointing to
go out and scale back your order and still not be able to get out for less than $100
The food was quite good with the exception of the galaktobouriko. There was next to no custard in it - mostly phyllo. Very disappointing as it is one of my favorite desserts. I would not recommend it at all.
For the charges with gratuity included, one would expect the service to be good. The server seemed either not interested or not knowledgeable about what was available when we asked for recommendations. He did not even inquire whether we liked the food, so much that we had to tell him after that one of the dishes was not good. Even then, he was like, okay, sorry you did not like and that was it.
Beautiful ambiance. Great food
Food was delicious. Red wine flight was also excellent, especially the Syrah. One of us is vegetarian, so we ordered several plates to share. We had the stuffed mushrooms, saganaki, dolmathes, tsatsiki with warm fluffy pita, potatoes on the side, and for dessert we had galaktoboureko.
The dolmathes are made in-house (rare) and were amazing. Everything else was great, too. The saganaki was delicious and not overly salty. The Tsatsiki and pita were great.
We've been coming to Nemea for a few years now and always order from the small plates menu as the three of us like to share the food. We like the calamari, the lamb meatballs and the prawns. the brussels sprouts were new to us this year and they were good. I don't remember the restaurant having a musical combo in previous years. The was one this time and thankfully we were seated away from the group. We had a hard time holding a conversation when the group started playing.
Food good. Service terrible.
Great food and service - busy even on a Monday night so book a reservation
Almost Great. There's a lot to like about Nemea. The ambiance is good. The menu is varied. There was live music on the Saturday night I was there. However there were a couple of deficiencies. Our waiter came by three times to take our order within a few minutes of our arrival. Once was good but if you don't eat Greek food regularly this takes time. While I appreciate his attention his demeanor was cold and distant and he didn't add anything to help with our choices.
At our table were three vegetarians. While there were options I think that two of chose a lesser dish - the vegetable casserole. OK but not exciting. The risotto was better but lacked salt. An easy fix but the flavor was lacking. On the positive side... the bread and olive oil mix were very good, as was the mixed green salad.
I looked at other tables and some of the non-vegetarian dishes looked very good from a distance. Overall I wanted to like Nemea more than I did. I would try it again but wished I had a better experience.
It was great food and service
We spent over 600 dollars there on dinner and they couldn’t validate my parking lol
We went to Nemea early before the theater. We had three excellent appetizers and their delicious bread. The Brussels Sprouts, octopus, and tiger prawns were all delicious. Looking forward to going back and trying their entrees. Service was top notch as well.
A nice variety of appetizers to share with drinks.
We started going to Nemea when it first opened and the food quality still holds up today. Absolutely delicious every time.
As always, food flavors and presentation were excellent. Gluten-free requirements were handled by our waiter and by the kitchen with thoughtfulness and professionalism.
