Our chef Philip Mihalski's cooking approach unites his classic training in some of the most celebrated kitchens in New York City and France with his passion for freshness and simplicity.
When dining at Nell's you can choose from our current seasonal fare or enjoy our five course tasting menu, the finest of what we offer from appetizer through dessert, at a fixed price. Nell's menus are designed to pair beautifully with your wine selection from our large wine list. We also offer vegetarian and vegan options on request.
Nell’s has been our “go to “ restaurant for years as Saleh al Lago was beforehand.
We have never been disappointed.
Kudos to all the staff at Nell’s.
Everything about Nell's is delightful, starting with a cozy neighborhood ambiance and warm, friendly wait staff. We've eaten here twice, and been impressed both times. Their menu changes regularly, and dishes are expertly prepared and well portioned. They do a great job with seafood. As an added benefit, the sound volume is low, so you can easily carry on a conversation.
The pork loin was tender and beautifully presented. The raspberry lemon curd parfait was mouth watering!
As always, everything was impeccable. Beautifully prepared and presented dishes without ostentation. Nice wine list, too!
Nice quiet romantic atmosphere, great food, great service...just a bit pricey, but I would definitely and highly recommend this restaurant as well as come back again!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Seattle. We find the food to be very good and it suits our requirements. We also like that the ambiance is very good and that it is quiet. However, our tastes are not for some people. We enjoy good food, served well, in a restaurant that is quiet and is pleasant. It gives my wife and I, the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant evening out. We consume very little alcohol; my wife has one glass of wine with dinner and I have a non-alcoholic beer. We are a non-pretentious middle class, retired couple. If you fall into that category, I highly recommend Nells.
We’ve been to Nell’s many times and never disappointed
As always, Nell’s is the place to go when we want to feel completely at home but also have a special and high-caliber meal. The food is carefully planned, balanced, and executed without being fussy or high-concept at the expense of taste, more like the sort of delicious excellence you imagine a talented chef might cook for friends. And the staff definitely make us feel like we are among friends.
Every time we go, we say we should go more often. I don’t know what praise would be higher than that.
Definitely an expensive meal but that was to be expected. Our waiter was great, food was out promptly, and the place was generally quiet. I'd definitely go back for a special meal out like Valentine's day
We have only had wonderful meals and terrific service at Nell's; this after dozens of visits.
Service was slow. 1/2 hour to order. Table next to us was very loud. When reserving noted it was a birthday. No mention was made of it. Food was very good. But overall we will not return soon. And it is in our neighborhood!
For a rather expensive place(over $200 with tips for 3), I thought the food was just about acceptable but not particularly memorable. Somewhat low key ambience which again didn't seem in line with the pricing.
My go to place for great food in a comfortable setting with friends and family.
I just love having dinner at Nell's. Sure, the average age of diners is older, but this time there were at least two families with children -- all of whom were into the food and appeared to have no complaints. A new venue for aging millennials? The service was, as usual, courteous and attentive without being intrusive. Almost all the dishes were delightful. Risotto was a tad salty and liver a bit mushy, but we left full and happy.
One of the few fine dining restaurants in Seattle that did not disappoint. We ordered the tasting menu and each course was delicious. Ever dish was well seasoned and presented. We added the suggested cheese plate, which surprisingly was brought first. It was very good, but might have been best after the entree. We couldn’t finish the delectable lamb nor dessert and brought them home. We’d not been to Nell’s for many, many years and now plan to keep it on our radar for an enjoyable dining experience.
Outstanding food and service every time we go! Highly recommend.
Unassuming and a bit dated decor, but absolutely fantastic food and service. We’ve been wanting to try Nell’s for a while now and we after this experience we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended.
We have celebrated special occasions at Nell's for years, a birthday this time, and have never been disappointed. The food is always excellent. You can have conversation at your table without shouting and straining to hear your companions. It's comfortable. The wine list always has good selections at many price levels. We love Nell's and will continue to enjoy it as long as we can.
Delicious cocktails and food, served with warmth and professional style in a quiet relaxing space.
A marvelous dinner. This place is a treasure. The menu describes the food in a rather straightforward, simple way. But the dishes were elegant, cooked to perfection with brilliant tasty touches. For example, "hearts of palm with kiwi vinagrette" was oh my an amazing taste bit that just perfectly complemented the butter-seared yummy scallops. And the green beans -- that's simple, right? -- were cooked with fennel so the taste was sublime. The menu choices were pretty close to the "sample menu" online, so you can most likely get something that you see there. The ambience is quiet, candlelit, personal.
One of my favorite spots for a quiet, lovely dinner.
We have been dining at Nell’s for many years. The food and service are consistently excellent.
This is our "go-to" place for fine dining. We love it.
We had a lovely dinner evening at Nell's. The food was excellent, the ambiance was so comfortable, and we could have intimate conversations, which is so rare to have in restaurants today.
Delicious chicken and perfect scallops
Best restaurant in SEATTLE!!! food was great, we had great time
We enjoy Nells, especially the New Years Eve tasting dinner. This was our second New Years' Eve at the restaurant. Each course was delicious, just the right amount so you always were satisfied but would have taken one more bite. We didn't have the wine paring, choosing just a glass of champagne, but the wines selected looked good and the champagne was wonderful.
The atmosphere at Nells is quiet competence, with well-trained staff who are present when needed but not hovering or trying to be your friend. It's a place for grown-ups to go to dinner, although the family next to us with two young sons was enjoying themselves as well.
Don't go if you want music and a scene, you'll be disappointed. Do go if you like well-prepared and presented food, thoughtful wine selection, tasty drinks, and a comfortable atmosphere where you can sit and talk with your friends and family while everyone enjoys a great meal.
All around excellent experience. If you are looking for cutting edge small plate meals this is not it. But we love this place. Quiet so good for visiting, service is attentive but paced to your mood and food is excellent. Always good range of options. We did not have the fixed price menu since didn’t want that much food but it was a great value if you also wanted dessert. One of our favorite places.
Nell's continues to deliver an elegant but relaxed and comfortable experience. The service is excellent. The room is a nice size--cozy, but with room for private conversation. Although the menu is beginning to seem a bit too familiar after a number of years and could do with some updating, the food itself is tasty and perfectly cooked. We will go back.
Excellent in taste and service. Our first time at this restaurant
This was a great experience but there is an extreme downside. The food, all of it, from Tasting Menu to Calamari to Dessert is not to be missed. Everything is beyond good. Definition of low key and hidden treasure to be experienced.
However; while the waiter was a nice fellow and younger than the other wait staff;
He did not check in frequently with us and seemed to converse more easily on this past Saturday night with everyone else. Every other table last Saturday night also seemed to get bread. We did not get offered any. He also did not apologize for the extreme wait time our dessert took. I do not blame him or the cooks but a comment and apology about waiting half an hour for the dessert would have been nice.
They also did not acknowledge my Open Table reservation note about it being my girlfriend's birthday. Every other Open Table restaurant has responded directly to my notes whether it be an occasion or a request.
Nell's did give us a prime and great table though and the other wait staff were outstanding, attentive and changed the cutlery with extreme politeness and detail.
Its just the few dozen other small little things that made this a little worse than our great experience at Brunello's Italian restaurant a few miles away.
Will not recommend .
Food price doesn't match the food taste.
We chose Nell's for a party-of-7 anniversary celebration. The staff was accommodating, making helpful food and wine recommendations when asked. Each dish was beautifully prepared using creative and artful flavor pairings. Without exception, we were impressed with everything that was brought to our table, and especially appreciated the perfect pace of the meal. Highly recommended!
One of the best meals I have ever had. The scallops were cooked to perfection! They were accompanied with a lentil/savoy cabbage medley. It was absolutely delicious.
Nice cozy place for fine dining on a special occasion. I recommend it!
Had a wonderful dinner here with our family. Even though it was Christmas eve, the room was quiet for comfortable conversation. Every item we ordered was prepared perfectly. Our server was outstanding; right there when needed but never obtrusive. When my son went to the washroom, our waiter walked over and gently shook out his napkin, then folded it on the table and walked away.
As always, excellent food with distinctive service. The tasting menu is outstanding.
We have never been disappointed when we have dined at Nell's. We hope that this wonderful restaurant continues to thrive for many years to come.
My wife and I met another couple at Nell's for a first-time double date (wives meeting for the first time, husbands are friends) and both couples have large wine collections. Between us we brought perhaps seven bottles (many backups, in case of corked/bad, which turned out to be a very wise decision) of very fine wines. The chef is a friend of our dining companions and came out and chatted with us about the food and wines. He made smoked chimney lobster for all four of us, a dish that is not on the menu but Nell's sometimes makes upon request. It was the best lobster I've ever eaten. Small enough portion for everyone to have it as appetizer, but big enough to really enjoy it thoroughly. I ordered duck confit as my main and it was very good, perfectly done and a nicely put-together dish. My wife had the tasting menu and liked it a great deal. I give this restaurant huge love for being quiet, the way restaurants used to be. I can't stand the modern hearing pummeling that so many eateries think they need to subject upon their patrons! When I go out to eat I want to have conversation, for goodness sake! I don't want to yell or even have to talk loudly. In fact, for 2019 I am going to commit to myself to avoid going to loud restaurants. When there are great restaurants in Seattle where normal conversation is possible - Luc, MKT, Copine, Harvest Vine (downstairs), etc. - why go someplace where conversation is difficult? I'm looking at you, How To Cook a Wolf, Rock Creek, Purple, et al.
The onion tart was to die for. If there is one dish you must not miss, this is it. The service was good. Though the interior is a bit dated, I can enjoy it for what it is rather than looking at it as a demerit. It feels cozy and warm, which is a pretty big contrast to so many other fine Seattle restaurants. I enjoy the concrete and glass look, it's not either/or, it's diversity that adds to the dining scene here, and I appreciate it. I hope Nell's stays in business for many more years!
Great food, good service and nice ambience.
