It is a rip off !
Very expensive for what we ate. The temperature in the restaurant was too cold. My feet and my daughter’s were freezing.
The food took a very long time to come out.
Everything was great ! But food is way overpriced!
very pretentious! expensive restaurant for what it offers! Waiters are pushing high value items. we were offered a small burrata for usd 40 !!! I do not recommend!
Nello is fun. But it is obscenely expensive. I will think twice before going back.
Excellent evening good service and ambience
Nello has the best wine list in all of New York in my opinion. It’s very long but you will surely find the wine you’d enjoy. If you don’t know what to choose, ask Joseph and he’ll give you the best advice. As for food, risotto with white truffle is my favourite dish there. 10/10 recommendation for this place, really.
Restaurant has one of worst cost/benefit I have ever seen. The food is ok, the price is really to expensive x what they offer. Beverage has an incredible overprice and the service is trying to accelerate my choices even the restaurant was not crowded. One really bad experience.
Welcoming friendly professional service with a excellent sense for guiding their guests through the food and wine experience.
I booked a reservation for two for New Year’s and spoke twice to the manager John by phone. He assured me it would be a lovely, elegant evening with music and beautiful decorations. It was a pricey meal in a setting without a view or any special ambience. But I wanted to impress a friend visiting from Texas so we went.
The promise of beautiful decorations was on track — the flowers and balloons were lush and sophisticated. The printed menu was a nice touch.
The first hour from 8-9 was lovely and festive. But then the crowd arrived and service plummeted, the noise level and the DJ music (Think disco) got louder by the minute and the scene shifted full tilt to raucous party mode.
The other guests were table hopping, sitting on laps, back slapping the wait staff and opening and closing a front door that sent cold rainy air drafts over our table time and again.
The worst part of the crowd arrival were all the children, many being pushed in strollers and screaming. It was as if we had joined someone else’s neighborhood bash. A whole clan arrived that turned the restaurant into a private party setting with only a few unsuspecting diners like us trying to make sense of it.
We left before midnight and the end of the meal. And now that the restaurant has banned solo females dining at the bar, I doubt I’ll ever give it a second chance. Too bad, because as a newcomer to Manhattan it could have been exactly my kind of place.
WE have been there many times but this was a big disappointment. Because we were there for dinner before the New Year's Party, the service was slow but the food was even terrible. This was enough for us to decide not to return again. Their loss
they forced on us a 20% tip and we were 4 only
they didn’t present anything though I mentioned that we are celebrating
Good but expensive
Great experience, friendly staff, menues are outstanding (like in Italy), very professional
Beautiful Christmas decorations but food and wine incredibly overpriced
I prefer making reservations online rather than just visiting Nello restaurant out of the blue. This restaurant’s online reservation is on a whole new level. You can actually check all the dishes online, you can book, not just the seat you want but also select the meals you want, which is something rare. The bar guy, Joseph is the one that really makes my visit even better each time. He’s chatty and knows how to concoct any combination you want. I like to eat the Veal Milanese and Risotto with white truffle while drinking some rum. I also like seafood, but Nello whets my appetite with some Grilled Alaska wild Salmon like I am just tasting it for the first time. Nello is a fairly good restaurant for the prices on the menu.
The service was attentive and the meals we ordered excellent. I expected the prices but what I found unethical was providing specials (exceptionally expensive) without prices. If your specials are $365 for pasta you should mention it. I asked but if I hadn't would they have bothered to alert an suspecting guest?! I also think $15 for water is price gauging! I get it, they are an upscale spot but customer good will goes a long way.
Great meal and wonderful service. Highly recommend but pricey for lunch so make sure you look at the menu. Definitely will be back.
As long as you go to Nello knowing what you’re in for, it’s wonderful. We have been going there on & off for years, when we visit NYC. It’s a gorgeous restaurant. It’s not for the faint of checkbook though. SO, don’t go there and then complain about the prices— you know that going in ! The food is delicious and the ambience is wonderful— it’s very elegant. The service is very attentive. It’s a great people watching spot. They have gorgeous floral arrangements. It’s not everyone’s taste, But we keep going back !
Wonderful as always! Such a great cozy restaurant and the food and wine choices are outstanding.
A neighborhood gem! Delicious food, and eclectic atmosphere!
The food is just good. The prices are crazy. I don’t mind to pay for good food and we regularly do so. But this restaurant is totally absurd. But the place was packed. As long as the upper east people are willing to pay $40 for a simple pasta dish or $75 for a prosciutto appetizer, why not.... but I wouldn’t recommend this place as there are so many good Italian restaurants in the city.
I've heard of Nello before but I couldn't imagine how good it actually is. The food there is delicious, and I'm not talking just about the pastas, even the artichoke salad or a grilled wild salmon have that special something that makes it a lot better. Stefano helped me choose a wine for my order and I just want to say thanks to him because he gave me a great advice. Awesome place that I recommend to anyone!
The food is fine, the service is very good and it’s exorbitantly priced bc of the location.
And staff very professional and accommodating
The menu at Nello is mostly Italian cuisine, with all the pastas and seafood, and actually everything there is extremely tasty. If you want some exotic food – how about pasta with black ink sauce? As you guessed, there are all types of delicatessen – grilled octopus, lobsters, clams and so on. So it's a great restaurant if you just want to have dinner, but it also suits well for trying something new. Also, Stefano should definitely get a pay rise :)
Nello is an awesome Italian restaurant! If you're looking for great Italian or a glass of really tasty wine in a good atmosphere, you will not be disappointed! Alvaro was very friendly and made sure everything was as ordered. Great service and great food!
Besides the meals being very tasty, I love Nello’s set up especially the Bar, handled by a very gentle and friendly Joseph, the Bartender. I made a reservation online and they set up the table better than I thought. Popping the question to my girlfriend after an evening of two plates of the Ugly tomato salad, the juicy Ossobucco, and the Black cod with sweet miso was perfect and well worth it. Nello now holds a special place in my heart for making that fantastic and dreamy evening possible. To everyone at the Nello Restaurant, thanks guys, will be visiting again soon.
The Minestrone soup and the Linguine vongole served at Nello’s always brighten up my day. Since my first visit to this gorgeous restaurant, I haven’t been able to go to another one. My dates and corporate one-on-one meetings have always taken place there. I just love everything about Nello including the fabulous staff they have: Giacomo, Atilla, and the other guys there. Coming for Veal chop with wild mushrooms on Wednesday. Keep doing the good work!
This is one of our favorite lunch spots in the city. Food and service are outstanding.
My girlfriend and i had a fabulous time here. Drinks are delicious and was have to have gluten free options.
Nicely appointed, excellent food, excellent service, noise level was elevated due to the tight table arrangement. Definitely costly , however, overall very solid restaurant with a nice wine list and well trained staff. Highly recommend.
I made a booking for a quiet lunch with my husband for my 30th birthday. After ordering a bottle of champagne and 4 course meal the manager came over demanding that we move because our table could fit four people and we were just two.
When we explained it was my birthday and would prefer not to be moved mid-meal, he whined a series of excuses. The manager then came over 3 additional times to explain he still wanted us to move and if he decided to let us stay at the slightly larger table he would be doing us a huge favor and next time he was going to seat us in the back.
Eventually we left because we did not want to spend the whole meal being accosted about being seated at a table their waiter chose for us.
The fact we are repeat customers was discounted. And, with every meal at this restaurant costing $1000, you would think their staff could follow basic etiquette.
Expensive, but wore them it.
Never fails to impress with the quality of cuisine, mature service and refined hospitality. This is a dining experience for adults. Thankfully.
