Nello Ratings and Reviews
First, I know Manhattan and the upper East side is expensive, but this restaurant ridiculous. Wealthy people understand money and don’t throw it away, appropriate pricing applies to all incomes.
Most bottles of wine were Googled, all five times the retail value. Very sure most establishments only double the price. Is this effecting business? I was there on a Friday night before the long Christmas weekend, got my reservation that afternoon on Open Table, could have picked any hour, and the place was almost empty all evening.
The food was excellent, atmosphere nice, value terrible for what the city has to offer.
The food was excellent and the service was very good. My guest and I enjoyed wonderful entrees, sides, and shared two desserts. It was pricey but I had prepared for that. Sadly, the reason I gave only a 3 star "overall" rating was because of an incident at the end of the evening. I went downstairs to use the only ladies room, locked the door (with the 'dead bolt') and TWO gentlemen who were dining with a large bolsterous group pushed the door open and came in - I was shocked and pushed the door shut (as I had not yet finished). I was too upset to speak to the manager right then (we had already settled our bill). However, when I called upon my immediate return to my hotel and spoke to the manager, I shared my experience. He apologized and I told him I was very upset and would most likely never visit Nello again. He simply said he was sorry, he knew who the two gentlemen were and told me they had "been cut off" from drinking. That was it. I was appalled at his complete lack of concern for the safety of his customers. While those gentlemen were probably drunk and just having "fun" it really upset me.
Probably most over priced restaurant I have experienced
Simple veal dish was $59 and pasta was close to $50. Less than 6 bottles on the wine list under three figures. I ordered a bottle of red for $80 which reflects an average retail price on Vivino of $13.98
I never give really bad reviews however this place was a joke. Beware when you order any specials as they up the price ridiculously. For example the pasta entrees are $29 and my client orders a pasta special and its $98. On the check there were 2 Pans (?) for 30 at $15 each. I asked what this was and they said 2 bottles of water. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
Nello's was recommended by a family member. We went for lunch and loved it! Food was fabulous, service polite and efficient. Ambiance was charming though seating on the banquette was a bit too tight for comfort and privacy. Will go back again next time in NYC.
Based on reviews I wasn't expecting much for food and only booked to use a significant gift card. I agree that it was extremely overpriced for what you get, but the food was good. The rissoto and langostines were superb. The burrata and proscutto app was also good. The veal chop was under seasoned and not worth it. The service was extremely bad. We had reservations and were seated immediatley. Then we were ignored for at least 15 minutes while others around us were helped. We didn't even have water or a menu to look at. Once we did get menus the waiter was not helpful in making suggestions and was very disinterested. It took forever to get the drinks we ordered and we had to ask twice. I am not sure if poor service and an air of not caring is part of the vibe of this place. Do not plan on returning.
The restaurant is overrated.
The quality of food has gone down and the prices have gone up.The service was ok but I think they just try hard to sell their dishes
In the past the food was good and so I have been going every time there but now it has really changed the taste and not good.
Also the welcome is not warm
Will not go again and too overpriced.
