The snap peas with chili and the trout were cooked perfectly. The service was, however, slow and unresponsive at best. The fixed service charge probably doesn't promote much motivation.

Steak was ordered medium rare and came out medium well. Entrée sides unproportional By the time our server checked up on us, we already finished our entrées. Cocktails and pistachio beat appetizer were on point! We were expecting a more personable experience. Nonetheless, we will be back.

The service, drinks, and food were all amazing. I wish they had a larger menu, they only had four mains plus a special, two of which were fish, which I don't like. It also seemed a tad overpriced, but not drastically so. Overall, I liked it and would recommend it, but it might not be for me.

Recently had dinner here for a friends birthday. Everything was so great except the food! The dishes were over salted including the dessert. Pretty disappointed for the price we paid. Would only recommend this place if you're getting cocktails.

We had one of the best family brunches here for Mother's Day and there was truly something for everyone. The strawberries with cream and cocoa nibs were delightful. The pickled veggies and rosemary hazelnuts addictive. The caramelized French toast dense and delicious and the halibut with lemon beurre blanc was OMG l-lick-your-plate fantastic -- just wish there was more of it. Can't believe it's taken us so long to discover such a quintessentially Portland gem and we will be back for dinner next time. Thank you, Ned Ludd!

I had not been to Ned Ludd in about 18 months and I won't wait that long again. We did the Chef's choice tasting menu for $60 and it was worth every penny. The plates just kept coming! Every bite was delicious!

The food is reliably excellent here. I almost always get the whole trout, but I've had a lot of great dishes. It can get a little crowded and noisy with that, but it's a cozy warm place for a special occasion or to eat at the bar for a nice meal on my own.

Food was OUTSTANDING...delicious and creative. Flatbread with beet tahini and Tuscan chicken livers were amazing. Interesting ambiance and décor. Seating was a little (too?) cozy.

Multi-course menu was fabulous...but too much food! Everything was fresh and innovative. The salads were terrific, the trout and pork exceptional. We took dessert to go because we couldn't eat another bite. Kyle was a great server. The only issues were two incessant talkers next to us (we had no choice but to hear about their dental & health issues, dirt on friends and ex's) and splinters in my pants from the bench seat! Oh...and parking was difficult.

Outstanding food and service. Our guests from Vancouver, BC were thrilled to get out of downtown and experience one of Portland's best for a long, delicious, comfortable, multi-course meal with great wine and conversation.

Good service, knowledgeable staff. Very helpful for first time visitors. Food was above board all around, the trout dish was particularly good. Reasonable prices and good atmosphere. If you like the wood-fired concept, they will not steer you wrong here. If you do dislike smoked/wood-fired flavor, then most likely you should look elsewhere.

Years ago we had a great brunch at Ned Ludd and so we were excited to try them for dinner. We were completely disappointed by the menu, our appetizer ( flabby soft 'flatbread' ) and then the charcuterie platter, which had some of the blandest items we've ever tasted on a charcuterie board. It was so bland that we didn't order anything more but rather asked for the check and walked to a nearby pizza place (which was delicious). To bad to see such a good place turn so pointless.

I've been wanting to eat here, as I'm eating my way through Eater PDX's 38 list, and Ned Ludd is in the 30s. I can see why it's on the list now! The menu isn't huge, but it's very tasty. It's build around a wood-fired theme, but I didn't feel like that dominated the experience. The decor is fun- rustic complimented by funky chandeliers. We started with the flatbread with both dips - beet and (?) creme fraiche, maybe? - and they were delicious! I had the Luddite cocktail, which had the (now obligatory) one large square ice cube in it, but the drink, while spendy, was delicious. And everyone at the table ordered the pork shoulder, which was roasted to perfection - crispy on the outside, juicy and bits of yummy fat on the inside - served over cowboy beans in a lovely broth, with watercress on top and it was...wait for it...delicious! Then we split the carrot cake (which was more like a pound cake or carrot bread, take your pick) served with a marmalade and sour cream sauce, and it was...well, you can figure that out.

We were catching up with a friend who'd been traveling for six months in South America, so we wanted an intimate setting without a lot of interruption, and, being tucked in the corner, it was as if our waitress, Eleanor, was our lifeline to the outside world, and when we needed her, she was there; otherwise, she let us be and the evening went by swimmingly.

Thanks for a great introduction, Ned Ludd. We will be back, perhaps over the summer to check out that mysterious outdoor tent area on the side of your restaurant - is that for customers? Oh, and your sign is not exactly prominent. We had to go around the block, park and walk around a little bit to find you because the writing on the sign is light. But that's OK. Maybe others will give up, and we can have the place to ourselves next time...

I went to Ned Ludd with a friend on Sunday. We had a hard time finding it because it was rather hidden behind a white tent, but the hostess actually came out of the building to find me and guide me in! Very nice! The food was very good to excellent, the sauce on the pork was stupendous and the haus charcuterie was wonderful. The lamb was good, just not spectacular like the pork. I had a Manhattan which was excellent since it was made with Antiqua vermouth. My friend wanted a rum and coke which was not available...they don't have standard sodas. I convinced him to have a rum and ginger beer with lime which was tasty but not quite what he had wanted. The noise level was a bit high to speak quietly to a dinner partner but not unpleasant. The décor was charming.

We had a wonderful experience at Ned Ludd. We originally had a reservation for two but another friend wanted to join our party. The host was able to accommodate this change less than an hour before our reservation on a Saturday night. We felt very welcomed upon arrival. We did have to wait about ten minutes for our table but were offered a seat at the bar during our wait. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was cozy and quiet despite being fully booked. Overall an excellent experience.

The trout was the best trout we ever had!! BUT the service was not. We were ignored pretty much the first 1/2 hr, when finally a server came over, we thought she was our server but she was very rushed and didn't stop long enough for us to ask questions. A long while later, a gentleman came over to let us know he is our server. Even though he was very nice, there was no apology for the long wait. When we got the bill, we found out the 18% tip is already included...hmmmm...the whole meal took 3 hours!!! Unfortunately we decided it's not worth the drive to try them again.

Food was great and a bargain. (ate the Portland dine out selections). Servers attentive. We said yes, when asked if we wanted to take our leftovers with us, but the plates were taken and the leftovers never returned.

Casual mid week dinner was perfect. Comfort food on a rainy night in Portland. Rich,delicious, spare ribs with smoky potatoes and a great beet salad. Add good wine and attentive staff and we were both happy we decided to revisit Ned Ludd.

Thought the food was good but not great. Very small menu with limited choices. Wine was very over priced. The window next to our table had dirt piled up on the sill! We won't be going back.

We have been here several times for dinner and once for brunch This visit was during Portland dining month which was a tasty menu. The panna cotta was well made, smooth and pleasantly flavored. We added the flat bread and roasted broccoli to round out the meal. Service was excellent and wine assistance helped us land on the perfect option. We will be back again.

I am vegetarian and found good options! It was yummy. Unfortunately my two friends did not enjoy their meal...ribs weren't flavorful. Waiter willing to make changes.

We did the Portland Monthly dining option on a Sunday night. It was incredibly delicious and fresh! Not only that but the chef delivered our food and answered all our questions. It was quaint and homey and inviting. I loved it!
