I love to suggest Ned Ludd to visitors as much as I enjoy going myself. The casual and intimate vibe of the dining room is always comforting. The menu is simple in style and complex in flavor. The drinks, in my opinion, are some of the best in town. From the moment we arrived to the minute we left we were treated with kindness and given the perfect amount of attention to be cared for and yet not to have our meal interrupted. This takes skill and care and it was appreciated. This continues to be one of my favorite locations.

Food and service were fantastic... honestly it was exactly what we were expecting/ craving so all in all a good night.

Neighbor table of four (didn’t seem like Portlanders) were loud enough we had to pause conversation multiple times. Thankfully they left about halfway through. Hate griping about that, not anyone’s fault, maybe it was more amplified because we ate early and there wasn’t much ambient noise.

I can't think of a complaint, except that it took me nine years of living in Portland to go to Ned Ludd, including three of those years a half a mile away.

Everything was fresh, creatively prepared, and well executed. Service was warm, welcoming and splendid. We tried the family feast (which was well-advised) and made a fancy night out of it, but we would probably just as easily return for just a dish or two under more casual circumstances (and we almost certainly will).

Also, I had no idea what I was indicating with the "volume level" selection but the volume was appropriate. Definitely not too loud, and easy for my wife and I to have a conversation. Plus the music playing the entire night was right up our alley.

Such a treat.

Ned Ludd was a great dining experience! Everything...the food, the service, the ambiance....it was perfect. There were 4 of us dining and we opted for the Family Feast and we were not disappointed. Each and every dish that was delivered to our table was delicious and the staff was spot-on with their service. I look forward to going back soon!

Fabulous food cooked over a wood fire with outstanding service. One of the best meals we have had in the 40+ years we have lived in Portland. I would have no problem recommending this establishment.

I was impressed. A friend and I tried Ned out as one of the Portland Dining Month places. I loved everything about it. My trout wasn't perfect but other than that I liked it very much. I'd go again.

Food was fantastic! Service was very friendly but VERY slow. Ambience is akin to a fancy Cracker Barrel, but warm and cozy and pleasant enough. More beards than you can shake a Bic at.

We took a client to Ned Ludd and it was perfect -- quiet, intimate, cozy, slow, delicious, and so Portland. Our client loved that dishes are made in an amazing wood-fired oven -- in part because she had been an open-fire cook for cowboys out on the range. We shared dishes and loved the beet/charred radicchio/candied walnut/blue cheese salad, the whole roasted trout with charred leeks, and the charred Brussels sprouts with apples and preserved lemons -- all beautiful to look at on the plate and scrumptious to eat.

The food was great and ambiance was charming. My only concern was the service which was inconsistent. Our server was very nice but spread too thin for a Saturday night. Our party of four was often waiting quite a while between courses or getting another drink.

My family had a lovely unrushed meal. Ned fixed my daughter a lovely mocktail and the duck confit was very tasty. The Luddite theme of your establishment is appreciated by the historical enthusiast in the family.

FINALLY made it to this iconic Portland restaurant, where all ingredients are farm-to-table, prepared in one small, wood-fired oven. We shared the "feast" menu, which gave us myriad courses of snacks, entrees, sides and desserts - what a concept, what an experience!!! A dinner to remember....

We went for Valentine's Day and were seated in the Love Tent outside, as the waiter described it. We were slightly early for our reservations and were seated right away, which was convenient. There were many interesting items on the menu and the waiter was super nice. The drawback was that the service started out good and then tailed off. There were noticeable gaps in time between the starters and the mains and then between the mains and dessert. It is nice not to hurry through a meal, especially on a holiday, but this was just plain old slow service. The drawback is that we were outside and the ground was cold and wet. The chill was seeping up from the ground into our legs. By the time dinner wrapped up (well past the 2 hour mark), my wife was having trouble walking as her feet were numb.

Food was a little plain. Not a lot of flavor. I appreciate the technique of having it all come from the wood burning oven, but the taste was just average.

Excellent craft cocktails. Chacuterie is a must do, alot of local purveyor's! Service was thoughtful and outstanding. Environment was great and we loved that it was no noisy. Only recommendation is seats are all wood surface, very hard on your tushy, bring a cushion. :)

Incredible duck confit. Best I've had outside China.
Fun roasted carrots. This is a unique place with all wood fire roasted food... Except for the homemade sorbet which is boldly flavored and a great finish to the evening.

Fabulous food and a great feast. Great value on food but wines a little pricy for the quality. We had the family feast at $60 each and took about half the food home for tonight’s dinner. Will be back again — frequently!
