Nectar Restaurant & Lounge - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
We came to celebrate my mom's 96th birthday. Staff was very accommodating. We had requested outdoor seating, which they were able to arrange. The menu is limited, but we all found something we liked. Appetizers were great. They had a very special dessert for mom. The server offered to take our photo at the end of our celebration.
The food was very good, however the service was awful!
We had to keep asking for water. It took 1/2 hour to even get waited on,
and the restaurant was not busy at all. Maybe 8-10 people inside with two waiters. There was a separate waiter for outside.
I had noted when I made the reservation that it was our 36th wedding anniversary- and had asked for a specific table- not only did we not get a window table, they did not even acknowledge our anniversary.
I can think of at least two other restaurants in Santa Rosa - that really make you feel special on an anniversary or birthday (La Gare and John Ash).
We were really disappointed and won't be back.
We meet my mom here about once a month for breakfast. the food is great, service is pleasant and the view in wonderful. It is comfortable and easy access for her in her wheelchair. We have also had our family Xmas breakfasts here a couple times. Really great place.
Came around noon on a Monday and there were very few people in the restaurant, however 75% of the tables were still dirty. We wanted to sit outside, but there was not a clean table outside even though no one was sitting outside. Overall, the restaurant appeared to have aged substantially. We decided to just have mac and cheese (which was OK) as the ambience was not very pleasant for my wife and I to join. Service to us was good for a hotel restaurant, but since there were only 2-3 tables seated this was expected. This restaurant has great potential, but needs some work.
Changed the menu - for the worse! I've dined at Nectar probably 50 times over the course of the past 8 years or so. The view can't be beat, but initially the food was mediocre. Not really local - more of what you would expect from a chain hotel's captive diner. Then it got pretty good - they started focusing on their wine list and pairing food, and everything improved. This last time was abysmal. The cheese plate was abysmal with inappropriate crackers served and a few crostini. The spinach dip was mediocre. The crab cakes were awful (with parts of plastic from what we surmised was the container that kept the sauce). The frito misto was average. To top it all off, the service was poor - especially when we were waiting for our check at the end of an otherwise awful evening. It's going to be a while before I go back - hopefully they change the menu again to reflect wine country cuisine.
We took my husband's mother here for Mother's Day this year and were very impressed with the wonderful selection offered for brunch. The food was excellent as the service and I would highly recommend Nectar to anyone looking for a nice place to eat or have drinks with friends.
Two years ago, we had Easter brunch and the cuisine was excellent. We met the chef -- a beautiful young woman chef, and she'll she was aware about nourishing and delicious food. Outstanding. Also Christmas Day and Mother's Day. Last year, it was very good, but not outstanding. This year, this staff is new. The women were hospitable, and gracious. The young men waiters tried to do it, but no training.
The salads and vegetables were very good. The omelette stand is fair. I delete it. Hot dishes are average, but interesting. We liked eggs Benedict. NO ROLLS! No whole wheat rolls! Poor choice! Bread is the staff of life. Last time, Local cheeses- Perfect. Not now. Also, the dish labels are usually better.
DESSERTS: NOT EXCELLENT! NO cheese and fruit BLINTZES! NO extreme chocolate dessert! One thing, the carrot cake was delicious. Otherwise, it's terrible. I will use fruit tarts, and more. Cookies should be healthy -- oatmeal, or nuts, or dried fruit. We love Nectar restaurant. Wonderful place. Work on it!
Since this restaurant is apparently associated (next door) to a nice hotel, I didn't know if it would be good or not - but what a find! The food choice was great, tasted wonderful, and the service was some of the best we've gotten in a long while. Highly recommended!!
I had a nice lunch and glass of wine during restaurant week. The cuban sandwich was great and the dessert, a strawberry hazelnut crepe was fabulous. There's a nice view of Taylor Mountain that is somewhat obstructed by vegetation and scratched plexiglass but it was still nice to be eating outside on a very warm and sunny day. I will definitely go back, I'd like to see the view at night, or at sunset.
Very disappointed. I wish I could get my money back. The place seems old and dilapidated. Customer service was non- existent. The food and drinks were terrible. My friend found plastic in her food. No napkins at the table. The waitress did not seem remotely interested in serving. I gave her a tip but she did not deserve it. The internet makes this restaurant look like a fantastic place to go with great food, but that was not my experience.
We made our reservation for a Christmas buffet. I did get a call from the management to tell me that they had changed to table service with a prix fixe menu, and I was fine with that. But when we arrived, it turned out that we would be ordering from the bar menu. So that was radically different from what we were expecting, but on Christmas Day it's not as if we could turn around and go find someplace else. It was a big disappointment. I felt really stuck and embarrassed in front of my friend, since I was the one who had made the arrangements.
Otherwise excellent service, excellent food, and a beautiful view. It's hard for me to know how to rate this. I'm rating it as if we were *expecting* a bar menu, which is me being very generous here.
Our family has been coming here quite often. Our family ages range from 9 mos to 70 years old, and we can all find menu items that we like. Also, it is quiet, so you can carry on a conversation. We keep our cell phones off, and we really have a wonderful family get together. The food is much better than what you would expect at a hotel. The eggs benedict I had to the mac and cheese, my granddaughter had was great, and the bloody Mary's were also tasty.
We visited Nectar as a last minute reservation because it was well reviewed and the ambience looked nice online. We were visiting from the Bay Area for a special occasion.
It ended up being in a hotel-- which is okay, but definitely not mentioned. When we arrived, the ambience didn't feel like what I had remembered when we made the reservation. We almost left because of this. I later found out that it was pictures of their outdoor seating and we were placed inside, so I'd definitely suggest asking to be seated outside if you want a more romantic feel.
There were some delicious bites throughout our meal. The Bellweather Farm Mac & Cheese was an awesome starter & got us really excited for dinner! That was probably the best part of our meal. I highly recommend. For my entree, I got the scallops, which were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, not over done & with a nice al dente; however, the red quinoa that accompanied it was so bland I don't even think they cooked it in any stock or seasonings, not even salt. It was really disappointing, especially since the rest of the plate was flavorful.
The server was very nice and kind of quirky. She took good care of us and I have no complaints for the work she did.
Overall, it was an okay experience and the food was good enough, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.
We arrived for an early dinner and happily got a table with a lovely view of Santa Rosa. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Though we had read some reviews that were not exactly glowing, we found the food to be very good. We started with salad and crab cakes, both tasty dishes. For an entree I had the New York strip steak, and it was done perfectly. My brother-in-law had the ribs, done to perfection also. My sister had the ravioli and wouldn't share! The menu isn't extensive, but we all found something inviting to try. None of us were disappointed. We did opt for dessert to share, chocolate lava cake, and were a little disappointed in that, though we did finish it up! Good food, good ambiance, very good service. A nice place for a special event, or just an evening out. Stunning views, and outdoor seating as well. We will go back.
Last minute reservation for a party of 6 at 5:30 on a Saturday evening. Impressed by the attentiveness of the staff. Food was tasty for a hotel restaurant, however it's pretty much what you would expect. There are definately better places to dine in the Sonoma/Napa area, but it works well for large groups on a budget and families with kids, especially when food is an urgent neceasily after a day of winery stops.
I was with a very elderly couple and expected criticism but hardly got any! She thought there was too much salad dressing on her caesar (so did I btw and I asked for light) but other than that, the food was very good. He said it was the best mac 'n cheese he's had in a very long time.
Our server was phenomenal! The only thing I didn't like were the chairs; very comfortable but way too low for the table (and I'm 5'4")!
Definitely will go again.
