Nectar - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
We had a reservation and were immediately taken to our table. Our server, Bob, was extremely nice and very attentive. We began the night with a cocktail. I ordered a seasonal drink called Autumn Rum Punch. My wife ordered the Bangkok Mango Martini for her first drink and went with the Autumn Rum Punch for her second drink. The mango martini was delicious. It even came with a sliced mango.
As for the food, we started with the Seafood Bento for Two. Absolutely delicious. The seafood bento includes two lobster dumplings, which looked more like lobster ravioli, tuna tartare, two lobster sliders with bacon, and two shrimp spring rolls. The entire box was great, but the sliders and the dumplings were definitely the highlights.
After the seafood bento, we ordered two speciality sushi rolls: eel and Maine Roll. I was actually disappointed in the rolls. They had no flavor and were fairly boring for the price. I've definitely had better rolls for cheaper. I will say the rolls were a nice size, but the taste was lacking. The shrimp pad thai was delicious. Some restaurants can take something as simple as pad thai and screw it up, but not Nectar.
To cap off the night, we ordered two desserts. We ordered the Nectar Valrhona Chocolate Torte and the warm cinnamon waffle. The chocolate torte is very rich and very delicious. On top, you have a Guanaja chocolate mousse and the bottom layer is dark chocolate cake with 70% cocoa. It is wrapped in cocoa nib candy, which is basically a sheet of chocolate with the name of the restaurant on it in gold. It sort of reminds you of a Louis Vuitton bag (chocolate brown with gold lettering). The cinnamon waffle dessert included two small crispy triangular belgian-style waffles with buttermilk ice cream, maple glazed banana, candied pecans, white chocolate sauce and rosemary foam. The taste was a little subdued compared to the chocolate torte, but it was also delicious.
Came here for lunch and had the lobster ravioli I have to say the sauce was EXCELLENT if you love lobster and ravioli it’s a must try .... I also had sushi which was fresh and delicious. Topped off with sparkling water was perfect ! I love this place always a great meal. Lunch or dinner.
Nectar is an extremely popular spot in the small suburb of Berwyn. The cuisine is an American take on the wonders of the Asian cuisine with a contemporary twist. Come expecting excellence in experience with beautiful decor and energy inducing background music.
Our experience was very mixed. The food was fine. However, the noise level was unbearable. The tables were very close and a large table behind us was behaving raucously. Also, the waiters used a temporally empty table next to us to store dirty dishes. Very unsanitary and unappealing. Certainly not what we expected.
Overall, we had a good experience. You’re required to valet park which was a little strange. The food was great and our server was attentive in the beginning but then phased out when it got busier which is understandable. One of the ladies in my group accidentally spilled her drink and our server had a new drink on the table immediately without asking. We thought it was so nice of him to get her the new drink until we got the bill and saw that we had been charged for both drinks. Not cool. Other than that, we enjoyed our dinner.
This is one of our favorite special occasion restaurants. The choice of appetizers and sushi always brings us back. The entrée choices are always top notch. The restaurant was completely full Saturday night and yet our service was spot on. You will not leave hungry.
Nectar has been better; the quality of the food was disappointing this time around.
The vegetarian mushroom pad Thai was a bowl of rice noodles with 5 pieces of portobello and 2 tiny pieces of tofu. In the good old days it used to have a large variety of wild mushrooms with different textures and flavours and large chunks of crispy tofu along with bean sprouts.
Also the chocolate torte seemed like it was sitting in the freezer for a couple of days. The top layer was stretchy and chewy and the whole torte was hard to break into. Nothing like the melt-in-your-mouth texture that I am used to here.
Very disappointing experience. It used to be one of my favorite places in the area but not anymore.
Nectar is always a premium dining experience with an interesting and flavorful menu filled with a range of Asian Fusion dishes. The room is beautiful, service excellent, and usually the place has an energy level that at times can almost make it difficult to converse across a larger group. Special favorites include the seasonal oysters, spicy sushi rolls and broad range of beef, chicken and seafood dishes always prepared with interesting flair of spices not found in most restaurants. Having been a regular for years you can return over and over and always feel there is a wide variety of opens to choose from. The only warning is the portions are typically small so a three course meal excluding dessert is usually the approach. There is also an excellent wine list and cocktails are professional prepared and tasty. Naturally all of this comes at premium price making Nectar probably the most expensive restaurant on the western main line by a margin.
I think the food is great here and the service is good as well. Felt like we were a little rushed. After drinks and appetizers, our food came out in five minutes. We had a 7:15 reservation and were walking out at 8:20. We even ordered coffee and dessert. We didn't ask for the bill it was just brought to us. I know that tables have to turn over, but it was definitely a rushed feeling.
Delicious as always! Great friendly service, we tried the pumpkin ginger infused cocktail, it was sweet and seasonal. The seafood bento box was yummy as usual. It's hard to deviate from the menu favorites because they are consistently delicious. We didn't get the fabulous donuts, our only mistake. One of the few suburban restaurants who understand fine dining.
Recently had our first visit to Nectar and we loved it. The food couldn't have been better. The service (by Simon) was very good even on a busy Saturday night. Some reviews have complained about the noise level but we thought it was lively with lots of energy. People have also complained about being put in a corner table. We had a corner table and thought it was great not only for people watching but it was also quieter for conversation. Would be happy to go back whenever possible (we live almost an hour away).
My daughter and I had a lovely meal on a Friday night. We started with the edamame dumplings and a special samosa rolls and sausage dish which was delicious. For dinner we shared the chili roc beef and seared tuna sushi, accompanied by a glass of Pinot Noir. The service was impeccable and the flavors were wonderful. I look forward to my next visit.
Business meal. Both had the chef's special which was a lobster/scallops dish- cooked to perfection. Sauce was fabulous. We shared the edamame dumplings which was also terrific. This is my go-to place on the main line. Never been disappointed. From Valet to Valet- all good.
The sushi at Nectar is out of this world. I have yet to order a roll that was anything less than outstanding. I really like the ambiance of the place. It's a very open concept. When you are on the second floor you can see over the entire restaurant which is a pretty cool view. It's a great place for a special occasion. My wife and I were there this past Saturday for our 5th wedding anniversary.
