"Love the food here. The app plate was wonderful, with crispy eggrolls and meaty sausages. Also loved the fried rice app that came with it. My only suggestion is to ask for the sauce that comes with the pompano fish dish. The sauce that came with the app plate was syrupy sweet, and that tasted ick to me. The deep fried pompano fish dish was also healthful, fresh, and flavorful. I love the lettuce wrap with the mints and cilantro. We also loved the beef stew. The decor was hip and inviting, in a wonderful corner of Piedmont. We don’t live close to here, otherwise we would come every week for sure. Cocktail list was plentiful and fun to try out."See more

"This has been a favorite from when I used to live in the neighborhood. I have tried other Ethiopian restaurants since moving away, but this is still my favorite and close enough to my current location to get to easily. The injera bread is just right, not too sour as some other restaurants are,. The staff is friendly, attentive, but stays low key, in the background, and unobtrusive. The food is very authentic. I always have the Ethiopian spiced tea and share a combination plate. We had more people this time so we opted for an additional fish dish of fried tilapia chunks. It was a good choice! We went on a Wednesday, so it was pretty quiet. I have seen it packed on weekends though, but it's always pleasant atmosphere."See more

Pizzeria | Oakland,

"The place was good for a upscale pizza restaurant . However the pizza wasn’t my favorite . It a deep dish so I was expecting layers and layers of cheese and meat . The crust didn’t meet my expectations and the depth of the pizza wasn’t amazing . I don’t want to seem critical however coming from another city I came here because I saw how amazing the entire look of the pizza was based off of pictures . My order was done incorrectly the first time as well. We asked for a pizza but all pork products replaced with chicken . And we still received pork . The waiter was terrific and solved the situation but it was frustrating."See more

"Came here for a business meal. Let me start out by saying that the wait staff is stellar! Friendly, attentive, and courteous. This opinion has nothing disparaging to say that will detract from the great service we received. We had the fried chicken and the paella (shrimp and chorizo). The fried chicken (boneless) was flavorful and juicy. Loved it. The paella, unfortunately, was dry and crunchy. This is my 2nd time to Shakewell and the first time I had the paella it was moist and flavorful. I don’t know what happened, but this time it was NOT good. I also had a great gin martini...a very nice selection of boutique distilleries for their entire bar selection. kudos! All in all, not a horrible experience, but I felt that the quality is falling-off a bit for a restaurant that I previously really enjoyed. I hope the quality can be resumed."See more

"Excellent food in a favorite neighborhood spot. Spring greens with plums tasted great, although looked rather wilted. Calamari and ricotta agnolotti starters were both on the small side but outstanding. Salmon entree very tasty. We’re always happy to go to Homestead."See more

"I'm giving Neecha Thai 4 stars mainly for the food. Fine dining it's not, but it's very tasty. It's a rather small space, a bit crowded, with a fair amount of noise from the open kitchen. Wait staff was friendly, but "inexperienced college student" level. Service could be more "professional" i.e. attentive. My friend arrived before I did and while water and menus were on the table, we had to ask them to come take our order. We had been seated for some time, and I had even checked in for our reservation 5 minutes early. The food arrived in a timely manner from there; we had an appetizer on spinach leaves with a delightful chutney that tasted of ginger and maybe tamarind? My friend had the Basil Chicken and I had a salmon dish. Both had delicious sauces and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. My salmon was a bit overcooked and dry, so good thing there was plenty of peanut curry sauce to spoon on top. We split a chocolate "lava cake" with ice cream for dessert, since it was my friend's birthday, and they accommodated a request for a birthday candle. But it was slightly over cooked and more fudge-y than lava-y. My friend said she saw it heated in the microwave. Lava cake should always be baked to order as overcooking is very easy to do, especially in the microwave, where things cook from the inside out. Overall, however, I would consider it a great neighborhood place to get some tasty food with friendly service, and good sized portions. We were happy to have leftovers to take home for lunch the next day."See more
