We have eaten at Nawab's other locations and have never had a bad meal, this time included. The only negative thing about this restaurant is the location. It is kind of out of the way, tucked into a strip mall.
Just an overall wonderful dining experience. Each new flavor was better than the one before. Staff is fantastic and very helpful. Its not a business, its a passion for these folks who are proud of the unique dining experience they offer. Come try something tastefully different.
The service was phenomenal, as usual. The food was full of flavor, well presented and very well prepared. The wine was perfectly chilled. The ambiance was well suited to allow a conversation to take place at the table. It was an excellent experience!
We had a very nice dinner, great food and attentive service.
Excellent, very attentive service, thank you for explaining all of our questions about food offerings.
As usual Nawab did not disappoint us! Wonderful meal and service!
As usual the food & service were great!
We had a wonderful meal here! Just passing through Newport News, and looked at previous reviews on Open Table. We had the mixed grill kabobs and the garlic Naan. Everything was perfectly seasoned and delicious. The servers were wonderful and made good suggestions. I can't wait to go back on my next trip through Newport News! Maybe next week!!
The atmosphere here is very quiet and peaceful. Service is attentive and the server was very helpful in explaining the menu and answering questions and making recommendations. The food was excellent and I would come back. I had just one criticism. When we came in the door and were waiting to be seated, there is some type of wall waterfall at the entrance that apparently was being serviced. I don't think this added much to the ambiance and I think could have been done when the business was closed for the day.
Excellent Indian restaurant! The best I have ever tried! Excellent service, great menu!
Accomodated our large party of 10 people. Attentive staff, good food, nice to celebrate a special occasion.
I was a bit worried after realizing Nawab was in a strip mall and not City Center, as I originally thought, but was pleasantly surprised. Doesn't look like anything special on the exterior, but is quite nice and clean inside and had delicious food. Some of the best Naan and Chicken Tikka I've ever had, and I live next to the #2 ranked Indian restaurant in D.C.
Food was delicious, service was excellent as usual, and the atmosphere is fantastic. My friends and I had a wonderful evening!
Great place with natural ambiance, helpful staff, and, of course, tasty food.
Great Indian food. Very nice inside considering the location. It is situated between a family dollar and food lion.
My idea and I rate Nawab as the best Indian restaurant we've ever ate at. Do don't go often but over the years it continues to impress. Last night was so good we plan on going more often.
Quality and authentic Indian cuisine. The lunch buffet is clean and food plentiful. It's a great place to take clients or for a quick lunch that is much better than typical lunch options.
Impressed with the service and food. Your were recommended by a work colleague and it turned out very well. Prices were good.
This restaurant has more options than other Indian places in the area. Great service and food.
Great service and wonderfull food. Our group of 12 was served promptly & efficiently
I took my wife here tonight for a surprise dinner. She loves Indian food and has been missing it since we moved. The food was outstanding! She said it was better than any she had in the past and was very happy with it. It was also a very romantic setting. The lighting and ambiance was great for Valentine's Day. I wish we would have been seated on the side with the booths, to allow for a bit more privacy. We were both disappointed by the service though. While friendly they were slow taking our order, bringing our food, and our check. While it was busy, there was enough staff that this shouldn't have been a factor.
Very good Indian food. Excellent appetizers. Relaxed and casual.
If you are looking for quality Indian cuisine, look no further. Hidden behind a strip mall facade, the door to Nawab opens into a gorgeous dining space with food fit for a king. The lunch buffet is nothing short of incredible, in terms of value ($10!??!), quality (I could.not.stop.eating.), and selection (spicy, savory, sweet, veggies, meats, and a host of surprises). The dinner menu is so enticing that it makes it hard to choose just one thing, so you'll have to come back again and again. Service was attentive, if a little slow, but I appreciated not being rushed. We've marked this as a favorite.
As four adults we all really enjoyed the food which could be eaten as an entree or shared family style. The later is better so you can mix several different sauces and flavors. The online reservation was easy and convenient too. Our toddlers are the ones that really killed the dinner. Maybe in 15 years...
We had a nice dinner at Nawab. Restaurant was not very busy that night, so service was good. Food was good, although if you really like spicy food, ask for your order to be hot, as medium is not spicy at all.
This is really good Indian food and the service is always good.
I was really excited to go to this restaurant because my fiance had been before she had said it was a favorite place of hers. Well I decided to surprise her and take her there for Valentines Day. When we arrived we were greeted by the present Indian cuisine smells filing the restaurant, but nothing else. We waited about 10 minutes before we saw a host. 3 more couple had arrived at this time after us and we were all standing at the desk just waiting. It took for my fiance to walk to the bar and let the manager know that there were 3 couples waiting to be seated for someone to finally come over. We were sat next to a couple who looked pretty upset. My fiance, being the ever self assured person that she is asked the couple, as I found out later she over heard some of the conversation, how long they had been waiting for a server. The man told her about 10 minutes. The couple next to use on the other side leaned over and said the same thing. A few minutes later both other couples had their orders taken and we began out wait. It was about a 7 minute wait for out drink order and then another 4 to get our food in. The service coming out was much faster and the food was amazing. I feel somewhat bad knocking this place, because it was very good but the customer service was very lacking on that night.
There were 3 servers there on valentines night and all 30-40 tables were staying full. Unfortunately the servers were unfriendly and didn't speak English very well. It ended being the hostess who swooped in saved and saved the evening for us. If it weren't for her we would have had a terrible experience. We were waiting forever, our server wasn't at all familiar with the wine list and when I asked for a bottle she brought me a glass. It just seems to me that they weren't prepared. I did enjoy the food there and would try it again, but if they haven't gotten there act together, it will be the last time.
We love this restaurant and have been many times. We thought it would be a good place for a NYE dinner since is been getting emails about an event there for a couple of weeks.
But half the staff must have called in because the service was, well, it was bad.
So, if you were there and it was your first impression, good be them another try. The food and service are normally excellent.
Nawab's food isn't the best Indian food I've ever had, but it's not bad, either. Although I highly prefer Monsoon, they don't have a lunch buffet; Nawab does. Not having to choose one entree and possibly get stuck with something you may not like is nice. Their buffet Chili Chicken is very good. If you're scared of spicy food, their lunch buffet is mild. If you have never had Indian food before, but would like to try it, Nawab is a safe place to start.
Nawab is a real find. The food is among the best I've had anywhere, so it is a real pleasure to find such authentic and delicious Indian food in Newport News. The curries and Tikka dishes are the best. I also like the appetizer assortment.
I've had Indian cuisine from many different types of Indian restaurants and the food here was good. It wasn't the best I've had but good nevertheless. The restaurant was clean, the staff was pleasant, and the ambiance was very nice. I would go there again and would recommend it to anyone to hasn't tried Indian food yet.
First time at the restaurant, wait staff had a difficult time understanding us which we had three different waiters. One got everything right. Food, some tasty other things not so tasty. Maybe Indian cuisine is not for me. Will not repeat, bread was delicious.
Food was okay but really nothing that took it over the top for me. Wine is not sold by the glass and I was the only wine drinker at my table.
I think I will just stick to cooking at home!
I always enjoy eating at both the Newport News and Williamsburg locations of Nawab.
Relatively new to INdian cuisine, my husband and I discovered this place during the first week we lived in Newport News, and we can't stop going back! The lunch buffet is delicious with a wide variety of flavors -- every item has a unique blend of spices. (I am not usually a fan of buffets.) We took a friend for dinner the other night, and she couldn't get enough. Be sure to order some bread for the table to go with dinner (though they do serve wafers with a dipping sauce to start) -- we loved the Paneer-Chili-Mango Kulcha. Oh, and the atmosphere is about as up-scale as a strip mall location can get. We were shocked it wasn't busier on a Friday night, and I'm positive if this was in a more obvious location, reservations would be a must.
I booked a reservation through OpenTable for Nawab on Valentines Day well in advance. When I showed up with my wife for our reserved time there was a line of reservations in front of us. Apparently someone who works for Nawab signed them up for OpenTable but decided to never check it. We stood in line for a few minutes but after looking around you could see that the majority of tables were being ignored so we left.
The whole time we were standing around waiting not ONE Nawab employee even looked at us, talked to us or apologized. Accidents happen and how you respond to events like this is how you can make a name for providing great service. Nawab failed on all counts.
It will be a long time before/if We ever go back.
I had reservations at 7 but didnt get seated until 745. Both of the orders came out wrong and it was horrible customer service. Im never going back again.
Our dinner was great. We took advantage of Nawab's Restaurant Week 3-course dinner. Just the right amount of heat made the dishes. Thanks for a delicious eveing.
Finally, a restaurant got the lighting just right: not too bright, not too dark. Complimentary papad (spicy lentil flour wafers) after placing your order, which many Indian restaurants nickel & dime you on. Tikka masala is delicious, even though it technically isn't Indian (it's British). Dessert portions are small, but after an Indian meal, it's just the right amount.
