Nautilus Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Food is consistently good and made to order. Their soups vary but not in quality. The Chef/owner Brian is very accommodating to individual tastes (no onions, more spice or less, etc.) The wait service is outstanding - they remember "regulars" and their tastes, likes, and dislikes. They are friendly but not intrusive. Their menu is varied enough to suit any taste. Prices are competitive. If parking on the street is a problem, there is valet parking. As expected, summertime is hopping. They are one of the only restaurants on the Nautical Mile open year-round.
Excellent menu with lots of great choices. I had the skirt steak and shrimp combo and it was fantastic. All the dishes looked great as they came out to the customers at other tables. It may be a little more expensive than some other places, but worth it. Service was also great: attentive, but not intrusive. I will be back... hopefully soon!
For the most part, everything was wonderful! Service was very attentive, and the food was delicious. The salad was a little iffy. The lettuce just didn't look or taste fresh and was a little soggy. But the soup, entree and dessert was fine! This place really does not disappoint
We have been to this restaurant many times and the food has always been excellent. This time we ordered the mussel appetizer. It smelled bad and when my wife took a bite it tasted fowl. I get it, sometimes you just get a bad batch. This is where you get the true picture of a restaurant and their professionalism. This happened before to us at another restaurant and the manager could not have been more accommodating. He actually comped the entire dinner. This time the waiter just exchanged the dish for a different appetizer. Did not apologize for the inconvenience, nor even accept that the dish was bad. I think the proper thing to do in this situation would be to offer up another appetizer on the house, or even offer up a free round of drinks. That hospitality would of at least gotten rid of the bad taste in the mouth from he mussels. More to the point it would of ensured that we keep coming back to this restaurant.
Very nice meal. Sunset menu a nice deal; otherwise, pricey. Waiter was great. One complaint; my husband got up to use the men's room, and a busboy setting up a table would not get out of the way for him to pass (space is tight). Looked him right in the eye and would not let him through!! Manager: train your staff and watch them!!!
We have eaten at the Nautilus before, a few months ago, and it was much better then. The good is that our reservations were honored on time, service was attentive, the table was nice and ambiance was pleasant. Unfortunately, the food was just average. I had their tuna appetizer and swordfish special. Both were quality cuts of fish, but lacked any real pizzazz. They were bland and underwhelming, even with the sauces provided for the tuna. My wife had scallops which were also bland and uninspired. Others in our party of four had oysters and other fish selections. None of us were impressed. Again, the food was okay but we expect more from this restaurant. Perhaps their regular chef was on vacation, because they were definitely off on this night.
