We went there during restaurant week and ordered off that menu. All of us ordered the "surf and turf" as an appetizer. It was one large scallop and a nice slice of pork belly. It was delicious!! The presentation was beautiful. There were only 2 choices for the entree--a smoked pork chop or Artic Char. My companions chose the pork chop. I had the Artic Char and it was absolutely delicious! The fish was cooked to perfection and the presentation was beautiful. Unfortunately, my companions' had a pork ROCK instead of a pork chop. They could barely cut into it. They are not the type to complain to the server however. The dessert was wonderful. It was warm carrot cake filled with raisens and nuts topped with a cream cheese icing.
All in all, it was a great experience. There was plenty of free parking, service was good as well as friendly.
I'm looking forward to going back and ordering from the regular menu.
From the time I entered the restaurant, the staff was very attentive and kind. Even though my friend and I were there for RESTAURANT WEEK, the waiter was kind enough to make recommendations. I have NEVER eaten carrot cake, but their carrot cake was DELICIOUS!
Two couples came to enjoy restaurant week. Only one of us ended up ordering the prix fix dinner, but we all tasted and approved his choice. The ambiance was charming. Our waiter was attentive and knew the menu well, food as well as wine. We look forward to returning again. We especially enjoy the outdoor dining in the milder months. Thank you for a special evening out!
We lucked into the National Exemplar's 35th anniversary weekend. Three course meal for only $19.83! Mushroom soup, scallops, shrimp cocktail, prime rib, chocolate pie dessert were all fantastic. Our server did a credible job on a very busy night. It was all great!
We happened upon the 35 anniversary celebration of the restaurant complete with wonderful special dinner menu. Great surprise and wonderful dinner experience.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. The menu was varied with something for everyone from starters to entrees. I would not hesitate to return to the restaurant for another evening out.
Early Easter dinner. We enjoyed the quality of the food, the service and the ambiance.
We love this place. But be sure to ask if the chef is substituting anything. I ordered the arugula and kale salad with manchego cheese--and the salad I got had substitutions for all these things. It was a decent salad--but not the one I was looking forward to eating.
Server was not very helpful, had to ask for bread and our beverages very about half of what i usually drink. Not very impressed at all.
The National Exemplar always exceeds my expectations! Sometimes we get the filet with boursin whipped potatoes, it is always cooked exactly to my preferred temperature. My husband gets the prime rib sandwich and loves it every time. We love sitting in a booth on the bar side of the restaurant. We're looking forward to Tacos & Tequila - the taco photos look amazing. We also visit on Burger night where you can get a gourmet burger (special each week) and a craft beer for $12. If there's a wait, walk into the hotel lobby and grab a drink at Southerby's!
Alwats great service...rib special was a lil dry..otherwise good experience.
Food is great. Music does not match the ambiance of the restaurant. Wanted to have a nice relaxing dinner but felt as if we were at a rock concert with blaring depressing music.
Liver and onions very tender . The salmon was good although not many vegetables served with salmon . The dinners rolls were terrible . Packaged cheap rolls . Dessert was good . Chocolate Pot.
The only thing we absolutely couldn't stand was how loud the music is. People tend to talk louder with loud music, and it all becomes too much. Other than that we loved it.
Love the National Exemplar. Great service , good food, and cozy relaxed atmosphere! Been coming here for over 25 years! Many happy occasions celebrated and memories made here!!
We had a great experience at the National Exemplar. I noted on Open Table that we needed to be out of the restaurant by 6:25 for a movie at the Barn in Mariemont and we were!
I lived in that area years ago and the Mariemont Inn was always a great place to eat. It was nice to go back and still be able to enjoy the wonderful food and service at the National Exemplar. It was great to enjoy a quiet dinner with friends and not have to talk over loud music. Over the last couple years, I have had lunch there several times and the experience was always well worth the trip.
As usual great dining experience. A special occasion made even better with on time open table reservation seating, great service and the fare was on point! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Terrific staff, from the hostess to the management, and consistently good food and drinks. The last time we were in town and stopped in, we noticed our favorite appetizer—the deviled eggs—were off the menu, but the GM Andrew had seen our reservation and had them made for us anyway. That’s above and beyond!
Amazing! Great food and great service! A**+!
That food was delicious.!! It has been awhile since I last ate there The food has always been fine nothing out of the ordinary but I am guessing there is a new chef and wow are they talented!!
It’s always nice to walk in and see Lisa, the long time manager who is very inviting. Our server was Eric and he was really cordial and very efficient. (Cute and appropriately funny too!)
It was rib night and two of us had delicious barbecue St Louis ribs and a perfectly cooked loaded baked potatoes. The other two had really good burgers that are two patties perfectly cooked on really good buns. A cozy booth topped off the experience.
Food and service were great as always. May not be the hipster place some must go to, but the food is always great quality along with the service so if you are looking for a relaxing dinner, this is a great spot.
Standards are slipping. There is potential for a top tier restaurant such as the ambience and the location but the little things are disappointing. Menu needs an overhaul. How about linen and crusty bread appetizers?
Casual, comfortable ambiance with more character than a chain. Very good food, very good service.
Perfect , historic little restaurant in an adorable quaint town. Good was delicious and prepared perfectly. We had a nice light dinner and walked next door to the movie theater. Highly recommend it!
The food and service was absolutely perfect! This is definitely a gem outside of downtown. My wife and I are already planning out next visit. The menu has great options for everyone and left me excited to come back soon! Have to recommend the Mussels and scallops to share. The Salmon and Ribeye were two of the best entrees I can remember! Our waiter was also a true pleasure to meet. Very polite and knowledgeable about the whole menu. It was like he know what we needed or wanted at all times. Again, cannot wait to go back soon!
Had the liver and onions and my wife had the prime rib, yummy. Everything was perfect and it was like eating in the UK.
Brilliant in every way! A must go!
I’ve been dining at The National Exemplar since it opened. I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, service and fine food. Would highly recommend to others! After all these years it is still my favorite Cincinnati restaurant!
We were seated at the coziest table in front of the fireplace which made our evening out special right from the start.
Our waitress had wonderful knowledge of the bar menu - we loved the mule and "The Exemplar" cocktails.
We always start with the charcuterie board, it is to die for!
My husband and I always try something new. The prime rib is his favorite and was cooked to perfection.
We always save room for dessert - the chocolate pot de creme is topped with the best chocolate whipped cream.
We're always treated like family at The National Exemplar and have the best date nights.
We also try to go for wine tasting at Southerby's on Wednesday nights because they have great live music.
The food was out standing. Have eaten there many times however this occasion the food was excellent, excellent! I had fish that was prepared perfectly. My husband's steak also prepared to perfection. Our server was professional and helpful but did not hover. Overall a wonderful evening.
We have been to the National Exemplar many times and always find the experience to be very enjoyable. On our most recent visit my wife and I each ordered the special, which was a Shepherd’s pie, which was superb. We especially appreciated that it was made with boar as opposed to beef. As usual, the atmosphere was excellent and the service exemplary.
We spent the night at the Mariemont Inn as an in-town getaway considering we only live twenty miles away. We had dined at the National Exemplar before with friends and really enjoyed it. We enjoyed out steaks and prime rib for dinner as we celebrated my wife's birthday. Dinner was so good, that we decided to return for breakfast the next day, and we were glad we did. They have just updated their breakfast menu recently, and had some items that were not online. We were seated by the fire, which is a very nice touch to the ambiance. Good stuff! We will be back.
My wife and I have gone here 2 or 3 times for date night and always enjoy to atmosphere, food, and service. It is directly across from a nice movie theater in the center of lovely Mariemont, OH.
Service was very good. Main course was brought out a little fast. The manager noticed and fixed it immediately and then gave us a FREE dessert. Food was fantastic!
The National Exemplar is beautiful, very romantic for a special date, or important night out. It is expensive, but the food is delicious and beautifully served. The service was perfect, and the décor itself is dark and rich.
My date and I shared the mussels, scallops with couscous, harvest salad and charcuterie board. All was delicious and perfect to share! Service was quick and efficient and not intrusive.
Great comfortable atmosphere.
We had a problem with our reservation which they worked very hard to make up for (and did). We had a fabulous Chilean Cab which was new to them but really good and most of the table had the short rib pasta which is worth the calories in my humble opinion. We'll be back.
