always great food and great service
Been here many times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Always very good food and service and this time was no exception. Wonderful prime rib, fresh oysters. Try it, you will like it.
Always a great option. Our server was amazing & pleasant and thoughtful. Wine-by-the-glass Tempranillo was yummy.
We had a negative experience w/ service - our server was very good but apparently we got caught in a problem w/ large group & had to wait an extremely long time for our food to come out - server apologetic - we asked for something comped - manager did come over & apologized - a round of drinks was comped. Had never had a problem in visits before this.
Extremely noisy-very difficult to hear each other and carry on a conversation. (Btw-our group does not have hearing disabilities.)
The service was very slow and felt very frenetic. Never received coffee that we ordered early into the meal. The wait staff was always apologizing and constantly rushing around from point A to B,Not a relaxing evening out.
The food was wonderful!
We both had the three course dinner for $35 each, excellent value. Asparagus and green bean salad, very creative and very good. Mushroom soup always a winner. Prime rib and mushroom fettuccini were terrific. Great drinks, great service, charming room and building.
Love everything about it!! My favorite place to eat!! Food is delicious, it’s quiet, cozy we can carry on a conversation (most restaurants are so loud & noisy I feel like I’m in a school cafeteria) & National Exemplar can also be a quiet, romantic evening for just me & my husband!!!
My wife had liver & onions, terrible .That evening she became sick, convinced it was the food. . We eat out about 4 nights a week ,so we have lots of experience and know the restaurant scene quit well.
The National Exemplar is our favorite date night spot and family brunch spot on the weekends!
Our waiter was great at making recommendations for the perfect wine pairings. He even recommended the ribeye be cooked medium so the fat caramelizes. We love their expertise!
We love getting a drink at Southerby's in the hotel lobby and then eating dinner in the bar area of the Exemplar.
Fall is the perfect time for brunch on the patio, we can't wait to try the new menu items!
Always enjoy the N. Exemplar, often post-movie or with friends. This visit our choice of the seafood pasta was disappointing - very bland. Miss the old fetuccini and scallops.
Overall, it was a great experience. My wife and I were on a weekend getaway, and were both very impressed with this establishment. The building was amazing, and the service was very good. The only negative was my wife ordered the filet mignon to be cooked well done, and it came out with a lot of red in the middle. She decided to eat it, and said it was still very good. The server and manager both offered to bring another one, but my wife said it was ok. They picked up the tab for dessert, and most definitely gained a return customer.
Celebrated our Anniversary and they greeted us with Happy Anniversary and thank you for choosing to celebrate with us. What a great start to a lovely dining experience.
Our server, Charlie was great! The scallops and couscous is one of the best entrees in town and it comes in both appetizer and dinner size portions.
My husband had the short rib pasta and loved it.
Ask for a booth in the main dining room where it is quiet. Pub is livelier but a bit noisy if you are going for deep conversation.
wonderful place, outstanding food with always great service. Love the older atmosphere of the restaurant and hotel.
My group stopped in after a movie to grab dinner on Sunday evening. The service was impeccable - each dish came out in a timely manner and every staff member we encountered was friendly and focused on making our experience one to remember. Our party sat at the bar, where Charlie took excellent care of us both as a server and bartender. The food was delicious - the Hungarian Mushroom soup alone is worth a visit. Will definitely be back!!!
Excellent as always. Lovely atmosphere. Service above and beyond. Always relaxing.
Couldn’t be happier about my dinner experience at the Exemplar! Every dish was cooked perfectly - the goat cheese bruschetta is a uniquely delicious take on bruschetta that I haven’t experienced before but will definitely be coming back for, the scallops over couscous are an incredible start, the seafood linguini blended all three seafoods together brilliantly, and the warm carrot cake with icing finished the meal off exquisitely! Beyond the food, two of the staff, Charlie and Andrew, were friendly and engaging, quick to serve, offered excellent advice on food choices (see above), and made the overall experience delightful!
We were celebrating our anniversary and had a very lovely and memorable evening. Our server was fun and informative and she certainly added to our experience. The food was fabulous.
I frequent National Exemplar often for lunch, but will have to add dinner to that frequency!!
Prix fix meal good value and with good selection . Desserts just okay
Have dined there in the past and as always it’s a lovely place to go
Great as usual
My fiancé and I went there for his birthday and had an excellent meal. Although we did have to request bread, they brought it willingly and were quick to respond to every request for drink refills, bread, etc. I wonder if the generous portion of warm carrot cake was because they knew we were going to share!!! Excellent!
The filet was average. The ribs were just ok. The liver tasted prepared and warmed over. The baked potatoe was not hot enough to melt the butter. Neither was the replacement potato. The spinach was disgusting. Service was ok. Not worth the money.
Lisa, the manager is always so welcoming and our server, Charlie is great. Attentive but not obtrusive.
All four of us had a different entree and enjoyed them a lot. I had the scallops over couscous and it was absolutely delicious. The pot-de-creme is a not to be missed dessert.
A real hit with our new to CIncinnati friends!
Fabulous food! Great service!
We always have a great meal here. We both got burgers this time for burger week. They were so delicious!
The 3 for $35 Special is a real bargain. The courses are from the regular menu. Service was good. Always a good place to go after a movie at the Mariemont.
Tonight was not nearly as good of service and food as we have previously experienced. Maybe it was just an off night for them, as previous visits have been stellar.
Nice place tucked away just outside the city; quaint old meets new decor. Service was a bit slow, food was excellent and priced just right.
Excellent!! Good food, good service. A nice time was had by all. Highly recommended without the slightest of reservations.
A most enjoyable evening with friends in a casual atmosphere. Our server was especially helpful and pleasant. Would come back again in a heart beat.
Delicious prime rib. The service and ambiance were great.
We celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary at National Exemplar. The ribeye and prime rib were excellent! Cooked to perfection! Boursin mashed potatoes, broccolini, and brussel sprouts with bacon were also delicious sides. You can get a great steak here quickly without the huge price tag as the downtown steak places. Highly recommend and will return!
Overall, our experience was disappointing. It was extremely noisy & we could barely hear each other across the table. Food was fair & prices were on the high side when you consider a glass of house wine was same price as one of our two entrees. Service was very good, in fact, almost too good. We were seated, served & heading home within 45 minutes. The restaurant is a lovely & beautiful place, truly a Cincinnati landmark.
I started with the Caesar salad, pretty typical fare nothing extraordinary. For my entree, the Mushroom Fettuchine. Very, very good. I would order this again and again. My date had the 10 oz prime rib. No way was it 10 ounces, I’d guess sixteen at the least. It was thick and huge and terrific!
The Manhattan cocktail I had was good but at $15, way over priced. My date had the Mango Slushie, refreshing.
Service was quite attentive.
Decor is very “clubby” looking lots of wood. But a little dated, although very comfortable.
We always enjoy this restaurant. Usually go before or after the movies at Mariemont Theater. Lots of small plate options and love the summer slushies. The wait staff is always very nice and the ambiance is great.
our waitress was super-cute and very informative. highly recommending the friday ribs special. If i hadnt already had ribs (eating leftovers a couple times durng the week) i definitely would have ordered them! She really made us feel welcome and taken care of. the food was delicious, and fresh.
We had the pork hops and the strawberry salad with shrimp. Both were absolutely delicious, the succotash really hit the spot. Service was in that sweet spot of being attentive enough to not interrupt conversation without making me nod because they ask how the food was as soon as I put it in my mouth. Will be keeping this on our list of places to come back in the area.
The National Exemplar is a reliable choice for traditional American food, prepared well. I appreciated that the seafood pasta dish I chose was available in a smaller size, while my brother devoured every bite of the enormous slab of prime rib placed in front of him (blood red, just as he ordered it). While I wish that the dinner menu were a little broader (for example, the awesome cobb salad offered at lunch would make a perfect dinner selection for folks like me), the nightly specials add a bit of variety to the standard offerings.
The food was a bit pricey but it was a delicious meal and the employees were all friendly. Not something most could afford to eat out at regularly but good for those moments you have a little extra money and want something delicious to eat.
We lovethe National Exemplar. Great service and food! It’s our place to celebrate!
