We celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary at National Exemplar. The ribeye and prime rib were excellent! Cooked to perfection! Boursin mashed potatoes, broccolini, and brussel sprouts with bacon were also delicious sides. You can get a great steak here quickly without the huge price tag as the downtown steak places. Highly recommend and will return!
I started with the Caesar salad, pretty typical fare nothing extraordinary. For my entree, the Mushroom Fettuchine. Very, very good. I would order this again and again. My date had the 10 oz prime rib. No way was it 10 ounces, I’d guess sixteen at the least. It was thick and huge and terrific!
The Manhattan cocktail I had was good but at $15, way over priced. My date had the Mango Slushie, refreshing.
Service was quite attentive.
Decor is very “clubby” looking lots of wood. But a little dated, although very comfortable.
We always enjoy this restaurant. Usually go before or after the movies at Mariemont Theater. Lots of small plate options and love the summer slushies. The wait staff is always very nice and the ambiance is great.
our waitress was super-cute and very informative. highly recommending the friday ribs special. If i hadnt already had ribs (eating leftovers a couple times durng the week) i definitely would have ordered them! She really made us feel welcome and taken care of. the food was delicious, and fresh.
We had the pork hops and the strawberry salad with shrimp. Both were absolutely delicious, the succotash really hit the spot. Service was in that sweet spot of being attentive enough to not interrupt conversation without making me nod because they ask how the food was as soon as I put it in my mouth. Will be keeping this on our list of places to come back in the area.
The National Exemplar is a reliable choice for traditional American food, prepared well. I appreciated that the seafood pasta dish I chose was available in a smaller size, while my brother devoured every bite of the enormous slab of prime rib placed in front of him (blood red, just as he ordered it). While I wish that the dinner menu were a little broader (for example, the awesome cobb salad offered at lunch would make a perfect dinner selection for folks like me), the nightly specials add a bit of variety to the standard offerings.
The food was a bit pricey but it was a delicious meal and the employees were all friendly. Not something most could afford to eat out at regularly but good for those moments you have a little extra money and want something delicious to eat.
We lovethe National Exemplar. Great service and food! It’s our place to celebrate!
Loved our waiter Eric I think. So knowledgeable, friendly, honestly helpful. We wanted to take him home. UC student. So enthusiastic. So cute. You can tell a mother is writing this review!
It was weird. We had three different servers come up introducing themselves as our server. We had no silverware. I initially ordered hot tea. When it was served there was no spoon. To top things off there was a long hair in my salad. The server was scarce when we needed him.
I had the strawberry-melon burrata salad. I was unimpressed. My guest had the Hungarian soup and loved it. He had the prime rib and devoured it.
The decor needs a slight update in the main dining room. The booths are a little clunky. The bar area is very nice just the way it is.
Excellent prime rib; worst service I have ever had with a $100 meal
First visit and it was really nice. We went for Mother’s Day and the food and service was excellent.
Excellent dinner, great service. Appreciate the ability to dine in a relaxed setting, have a conversation and not feel crowded.
The ribs on the weekend are wonderful. We really enjoy eating outside. Service was excellent~
Service was very very slow, even though we were one of the few tables.
We found this place online. We're from out of state and were looking for a nice restaurant for a special celebration. It was awesome to say the least. The Bartender was incredible and the Prime Rib was exactly what I was looking for. I would recommend it to anyone.
We went for the Cincinnati Restaurant week fixed course menu and we very pleased with our discovery. Everything was top notch, from the atmosphere, to the staff and the food. I had the Arctic Char which was not on the regular menu, I would go back for that again. The Mac & Pimento Cheese was a great twist on a traditional favorite! Wine selection was great. The have everyday specials which will bring us back!!! the National Exemplar was exceptional!
We went there during restaurant week and ordered off that menu. All of us ordered the "surf and turf" as an appetizer. It was one large scallop and a nice slice of pork belly. It was delicious!! The presentation was beautiful. There were only 2 choices for the entree--a smoked pork chop or Artic Char. My companions chose the pork chop. I had the Artic Char and it was absolutely delicious! The fish was cooked to perfection and the presentation was beautiful. Unfortunately, my companions' had a pork ROCK instead of a pork chop. They could barely cut into it. They are not the type to complain to the server however. The dessert was wonderful. It was warm carrot cake filled with raisens and nuts topped with a cream cheese icing.
All in all, it was a great experience. There was plenty of free parking, service was good as well as friendly.
I'm looking forward to going back and ordering from the regular menu.
From the time I entered the restaurant, the staff was very attentive and kind. Even though my friend and I were there for RESTAURANT WEEK, the waiter was kind enough to make recommendations. I have NEVER eaten carrot cake, but their carrot cake was DELICIOUS!
Two couples came to enjoy restaurant week. Only one of us ended up ordering the prix fix dinner, but we all tasted and approved his choice. The ambiance was charming. Our waiter was attentive and knew the menu well, food as well as wine. We look forward to returning again. We especially enjoy the outdoor dining in the milder months. Thank you for a special evening out!
We lucked into the National Exemplar's 35th anniversary weekend. Three course meal for only $19.83! Mushroom soup, scallops, shrimp cocktail, prime rib, chocolate pie dessert were all fantastic. Our server did a credible job on a very busy night. It was all great!
We happened upon the 35 anniversary celebration of the restaurant complete with wonderful special dinner menu. Great surprise and wonderful dinner experience.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. The menu was varied with something for everyone from starters to entrees. I would not hesitate to return to the restaurant for another evening out.
Early Easter dinner. We enjoyed the quality of the food, the service and the ambiance.
We love this place. But be sure to ask if the chef is substituting anything. I ordered the arugula and kale salad with manchego cheese--and the salad I got had substitutions for all these things. It was a decent salad--but not the one I was looking forward to eating.
Server was not very helpful, had to ask for bread and our beverages very about half of what i usually drink. Not very impressed at all.
The National Exemplar always exceeds my expectations! Sometimes we get the filet with boursin whipped potatoes, it is always cooked exactly to my preferred temperature. My husband gets the prime rib sandwich and loves it every time. We love sitting in a booth on the bar side of the restaurant. We're looking forward to Tacos & Tequila - the taco photos look amazing. We also visit on Burger night where you can get a gourmet burger (special each week) and a craft beer for $12. If there's a wait, walk into the hotel lobby and grab a drink at Southerby's!
Alwats great service...rib special was a lil dry..otherwise good experience.
Food is great. Music does not match the ambiance of the restaurant. Wanted to have a nice relaxing dinner but felt as if we were at a rock concert with blaring depressing music.
Liver and onions very tender . The salmon was good although not many vegetables served with salmon . The dinners rolls were terrible . Packaged cheap rolls . Dessert was good . Chocolate Pot.
The only thing we absolutely couldn't stand was how loud the music is. People tend to talk louder with loud music, and it all becomes too much. Other than that we loved it.
Love the National Exemplar. Great service , good food, and cozy relaxed atmosphere! Been coming here for over 25 years! Many happy occasions celebrated and memories made here!!
We had a great experience at the National Exemplar. I noted on Open Table that we needed to be out of the restaurant by 6:25 for a movie at the Barn in Mariemont and we were!
I lived in that area years ago and the Mariemont Inn was always a great place to eat. It was nice to go back and still be able to enjoy the wonderful food and service at the National Exemplar. It was great to enjoy a quiet dinner with friends and not have to talk over loud music. Over the last couple years, I have had lunch there several times and the experience was always well worth the trip.
As usual great dining experience. A special occasion made even better with on time open table reservation seating, great service and the fare was on point! Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Terrific staff, from the hostess to the management, and consistently good food and drinks. The last time we were in town and stopped in, we noticed our favorite appetizer—the deviled eggs—were off the menu, but the GM Andrew had seen our reservation and had them made for us anyway. That’s above and beyond!
Amazing! Great food and great service! A**+!
That food was delicious.!! It has been awhile since I last ate there The food has always been fine nothing out of the ordinary but I am guessing there is a new chef and wow are they talented!!
It’s always nice to walk in and see Lisa, the long time manager who is very inviting. Our server was Eric and he was really cordial and very efficient. (Cute and appropriately funny too!)
It was rib night and two of us had delicious barbecue St Louis ribs and a perfectly cooked loaded baked potatoes. The other two had really good burgers that are two patties perfectly cooked on really good buns. A cozy booth topped off the experience.
