About National Exemplar
In April of 1983, The National Exemplar began operation in the Mariemont, Ohio landmark, The Mariemont Inn. The Inn was constructed in the mid-1920's as a small piece of the very unique Mariemont community, founded by Mary Emery. The National Exemplar Restaurant was named after learning that Mary Emery once referred to her developing community as the National Exemplar, meaning national model community. The National Exemplar Restaurant is a full service, neighborly restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. We only use the freshest quality ingredients to prepare each meal. Our goal is to serve great food, provide friendly and professional service in a clean and relaxing atmosphere.

National Exemplar Ratings and Reviews
We were seated at the coziest table in front of the fireplace which made our evening out special right from the start.
Our waitress had wonderful knowledge of the bar menu - we loved the mule and "The Exemplar" cocktails.
We always start with the charcuterie board, it is to die for!
My husband and I always try something new. The prime rib is his favorite and was cooked to perfection.
We always save room for dessert - the chocolate pot de creme is topped with the best chocolate whipped cream.
We're always treated like family at The National Exemplar and have the best date nights.
We also try to go for wine tasting at Southerby's on Wednesday nights because they have great live music.
The food was out standing. Have eaten there many times however this occasion the food was excellent, excellent! I had fish that was prepared perfectly. My husband's steak also prepared to perfection. Our server was professional and helpful but did not hover. Overall a wonderful evening.
We have been to the National Exemplar many times and always find the experience to be very enjoyable. On our most recent visit my wife and I each ordered the special, which was a Shepherd’s pie, which was superb. We especially appreciated that it was made with boar as opposed to beef. As usual, the atmosphere was excellent and the service exemplary.
We spent the night at the Mariemont Inn as an in-town getaway considering we only live twenty miles away. We had dined at the National Exemplar before with friends and really enjoyed it. We enjoyed out steaks and prime rib for dinner as we celebrated my wife's birthday. Dinner was so good, that we decided to return for breakfast the next day, and we were glad we did. They have just updated their breakfast menu recently, and had some items that were not online. We were seated by the fire, which is a very nice touch to the ambiance. Good stuff! We will be back.
We had a problem with our reservation which they worked very hard to make up for (and did). We had a fabulous Chilean Cab which was new to them but really good and most of the table had the short rib pasta which is worth the calories in my humble opinion. We'll be back.
Very inattentive parents who let their bratty child play video games at full blast were sat next to us. They were obvious frequent diners there, and as such, should have their own area of the restaurant to themselves. Ruined our date night.
LOVED LOVED LOVED my meal. I was with friends prior to a movie, first time experience and what a experience. FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! The only thing, due to my experience was I wanted my husband to experience this ( he was out of town and it was a girls night dinner), We have tickets to a play and I thought Oooooo Dinner after. Turns out they are closed for a 5:00 dinner on Sunday 2.4.18. That's ok. We will be back.
We sort of stumbled on this restaurant on an Internet "Best of" list. Overall the experience was very nice. My Arctic Char was superb. My wife thought her St. Louis style ribs were good, but nothing exceptional. Service was good and the interior decor was charming.
My husbands food was cold and he had to send it back twice and by the time they brought it back the second time he just had them take it back. It is really hard when someone does not get their food then the other people are waiting to eat just not a fun time. The manager was very good and gave us a gift certificate for another meal and did not charge us for my meal. It was our 1st wedding anniversary celebration so it was nice they where so good about the bad food service. We have had great service here before and wonderful food so we will go back again and give them another chance.
Ate here on our first date 24 years ago and celebrated here on a few anniversaries. This year it was our place to eat for New Year's Eve. This is a great place to fine dine and enjoy good drink at reasonable prices. It is not over the top with glitz. Love the atmosphere.
Dinner was good with the exception of the soup being served cold. We were seated at a great table near the fireplace which was wonderful since it was in the single digits outside.
The ambiance was good except the lighting was too bright- might have been due to the average age probably being in the mid to late 70's. Also for a rather formal restaurant (and not cheap) it was odd to see all the servers dressed in plaid flannel type shirts of varying colors and patterns.
I always highly recommend this restaurant to friends and those new to the area. It is a great local restaurant in a quaint neighborhood. The food and service are excellent. The food is brought out in a timely manner which is nice if you are on a schedule with business. On the other hand a casual relaxed atmosphere is always encouraged if your time allows it. There is plenty of outdoor seating on the beautiful patio when weather permits over looking the fountain square in the heart of Mariemont. The management is excellent and makes dining here that much better. We especially enjoy being able to order breakfast/brunch type food until 2:30. The restaurant is situated in a hotel, offering room service and they also have a separate bar area for guests to enjoy. They have several private dining areas depending on the size of your group. They accept reservations.
As usual, we and our friends had a great time here. The place was busy, even on a Monday, due to the Holiday Season. The food was very good, but we were somewhat disappointed in the daily special of oysters on the half-shell. Usually, they are full and plump. But today, they were small and briney, but tasty - probably due to what is available at this time of year.
Still a great place to meet and enjoy the evening with friends.
Very nice atmosphere located in lovely downtown Mariemont. We were there on a vey busy Saturday night and it was packed. Service was a bit slow and varying in attentiveness. Waiter did comp my cocktail for our experience. Reservations a must on weekends. Great for holiday dining.
This was our first visit to the National Exemplar since Jeremy Luers took over as executive chef for the group owning this restaurant as well as the Presidents Room and the Golden Lamb. What a difference!
They still have the old favorites, such as the prime rib enjoyed by my wife, but many new items that are outstanding.
I had the chicken liver on toast as an appetizer and the Mushroom Fettichini for my entree. Both were delicious.
The cocktails are good and generous. Ambiance is warm and cozy.
This was not our first visit, as we've been for other evenings and lunchtimes...also the year we went to India we had Thanksgiving dinner here. We met good friends from Springboro for dinner...we always have a pre-Christmas dinner with them, usually at the Golden Lamb in Lebanon, but since it was sold to new owners several years ago we have been disappointed in their menu and an ambiance that has changed from the old historic inn to something we don't particularly enjoy. Our food at the National Exemplar was delicious! Three of us had the prime rib, which was cooked to perfection for each one of us...the fourth in our group had a vegetarian option which he enjoyed. My lemon tart with berries for dessert was yummy! The one disappointment was the carrot cake...first of all, it's way too large a serving and should be advertised as a dessert for two; secondly, however, our friend said it was far from the best carrot cake she'd ever had. My husband's pot de creme with peppermint whipped cream was delicious.
