Had a wonderful time celebrating my husband’s birthday! Would love to see more vegetarian options, even just a black bean burger. The side dishes were fantastic and the chef was kind enough to make us a phenomenal cheese and fruit “charcuterie” appetizer! Love this place.
If you have Taco Night, go ALL in!! I was expecting chips not bread & butter that I can get any night!! Margarita’s w/cucumber, while interesting, should be accompanied by usual margaritas....even if only on the rocks...just say’in your F&B $$$ will be enhanced!!
Our meal was delicious, the service attentive and the crackling fire on a cold Tuesday night was perfect.
Our server had way too many tables. Super nice person but response time was impacted and table was not cleared.
Food was good and enjoyed the experience.
The National Exemplar doesn't change much from year to year. It's good food. It's not going to make the "must visit" list for out-of-towners, but you can count on a good meal. I will say that $25 for liver and onions seems a bit steep, but there are other entrees that are more reasonable.
The service was great from start to finish. Our server was very helpful and her recommendations were excellent. We will return soon.
Great food and service. Perfect ambiance for a date night.
One of our favorite restaurants! It was the perfect place to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day with my husband.
80th birthday dinner with friends. Everything was fine but the managers didn’t tell the waiter that we wanted chocolate cake all around although I put it on the reservation and mentioned it to the person who seated us. Quieter than I expected and I think everyone was happy with their food. Potatoes with the steak and prime rib were disappointing as was the broccolini. Cake was very good with huge pieces. All in all we were happy and might come back again!
Thekays, thank you for choosing the National Exemplar for your special celebration! We are sorry to hear your experience fell short and have alerted our team of your feedback. We hope to get the chance to provide you a true 5-star Exemplar experience in the future, thank you.
First time here and for a Valentine’s Day/birthday dinner. Beautiful decor was rustic and classy. Tables were far enough apart to feel private. Big fire was cozy. Food was delicious. I had the filet mignon and husband had the ribeye. We had the roasted marcona almond appetizer and the server brought a basket of salty rye bread with butter. We tried a few drinks ... The Exemplar, autumn mulled wine and Emerald City. Trying to recreate Emerald City at home. It was yummy. Husband had the carrot cake for dessert and we were pleasantly surprised it was walnut free (allergy). I had the affogato. Yum. Only thing that was not right was the music. Someone picked a playlist I assume was Valentine’s themed but it was awful. It played the Celine Dion song from Titanic twice ... the live version with applause and all. Then some other bad sorta love pop songs. They should stick with Piano Guys if they want pop music or go all in with some Michael Bublé or classics of Sinatra and the like. We will be back.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review, Karen! Your feedback has been addressed with our team so that your next experience with us is improved. We are looking forward to serving you again!
National Exemplar is a reliable neighborhood restaurant.
Love everything about this place. Especially the cozy ambiance in the winter and the mushroom soup!!
The ambience of the restaurant was very calm and sophisticated. The service was exemplary and we felt cared for at all times throughout the dinner. The server was very knowledgable regarding the dishes and fully answered every question we had. The food was delicious and served promptly. 10/10 recommend and most definitely will be returning.
AndresR, thank you for taking the time to provide your kind review. It was a pleasure serving you and we can't wait for your return!
One of the most consistently great dining spots in Cincinnati
Excellent food, pretty good service. Things would’ve been better without small children running around wildly trying to blow out the candles on the tables.
It was a little dark, but not too bad. Food was great, server friendly.
We were staying in the inn and chose to dine here for convenience, and we are very happy that we did so. This is far above the quality that is found at most hotel restaurants.
The Hungarian Mushroom Soup is truly amazing. More like a hearty stew, it is so satisfying! Paired with a Charcuterie Board, which was generous enough to share, we had a lovely Sunday supper.
The service was spot-on, and attended to our needs with perfect timing. Our seating by the fireplace was comfortable, and we were able to have quiet conversation.
Overall we had a very nice and enjoyable meal.
Andie, thank you for providing your kind review! We take pride in being a neighborhood restaurant, and are so happy you enjoyed your stay in Mariemont. It was a pleasure serving you!
Service was outstanding and food was superb.
Cozy ambience and delicious food! All 5 of us enjoyed ourselves. Five stars!
The NE is a charming and cozy environment for a relaxing and ambrosial meal. Our seating in front of the fireplace was the icing on the cake! Will definitely return:)
We dined at National Exemplar to try their Monday $1 Oyster Night Special. For our visit, oysters were from Prince Edwards Island, medium sized & tasty. We also ordered mussels, arugula & kale salad and a bison burger w/ pasta salad. All items were prepared and presented nicely. Service was efficient and friendly. We were seated in a booth on the pub side of the restaurant. This section is cozy and fairly quiet although not as well lit as the other section.
The Marimont Inn is our "secret" getaway for my husband and I. We love to come here to celebrate our anniversaries. This year was our 28th Wedding Anniversary. Dinner at the National Exemplar was a wonderful experience. We were escorted to a table by the fire, 2 glasses of champion was supplied to celebrate and then we ordered a delicious meal of Ribeye, for him. and the Scallops and couscous for me. Lovely evening. See you next year!
A hidden gem within a charming town square hotel. Unexpectedly varied and imaginative menu. We'll be back to enjoy the hospitality.
Food is very good. The prime rib is humongous! It is every bit 16 ounces, probably more like 29, and excellent. I had the Branzino and it was ok but not great. I would probably not order that again. The mushroom soup is to kill for.
The bartender made a terrific old fashioned, a not so great side car (short on the orange liqueur).
Our server, Cole, was excellent.
The dining is very attractive in a clubby atmosphere.
The National Exemplar remains consistent over the decades. Definitely a nice place to go for great food and togetherness.
Celebrating a birthday and the staff went out of their way to make sure it was special! Excellent service, good food and nice variety in the menu. Great meal!
Wonderful place and William was a great server. Came her as a child and it brings back special memories.
Celebrating our Anniversary, sat in front of the fire with complimentary Champagne. Fabulous service and food!
Thank you for choosing the National Exemplar for your special occasion, it was a pleasure serving you. Happy Anniversary!
The food and ambiance was fabulous. We had a group of seven and we could sit at a table and hear each other talk, the goal of our gathering. Our server was excellent. I will be back for the dollar an oyster on Monday night. We are from out of town.
We went on Thursday and had wine, it was the special half price for a bottle wine night. Perfect!
Thank you for making the trip to dine with us, TeresaP! It was a pleasure serving you all.
Our birthday tradition.....as 4 Sisters. Thank you for taking good care of us.
My husband and I went on New Year's day and had a fabulous meal. We have the crab cakes over an apple cole slaw for our appetizer which was fantastic. I had the Filet Mignon with creamed spinach, tricolor potatoes, caramelized onions with bordelaise sauce. It was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. My husband had the Prime Rib with Au Jus and horseradish, whipped potatoes and garlic broccolini. He loved it. It was cooked to perfection and he said it was the beat steak he ever had. For dessert we had the chocolate cake. The piece was so huge and delicious! It had the perfect balance of sweetness. We ended up taking a quarter of the piece home with us. The service was just as exceptional as the food. No complaints. Will definitely be going back again.
Thank you for dining with us and providing your wonderful review, angelissa1980! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your experience with us, we loved serving you and your husband. Happy New Year and see you soon!
Historic ambiance - great food. Hubby had the prime rib (fabulous) and I had the mushroom pasta - very flavorful. Service was friendly and fast.
Post Christmas dinner for the family. We enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent.
We had dinner before a movie and the bar was a perfect place. The food and drink were very good.
Outstanding in every way!
Just my second dinner experience there. It was just as great as the first. Our server was "new" (Perri?), but she did an excellent job... very pleasant, cheerful and knowledgeable. My friend and I particularly enjoy the restaurant's ambiance... very warm and welcoming, and we can hear ourselves think! The menu selections are somewhat limited, but the food is excellent. I like the fact that the portion sizes are appropriate... some places' portions are just too big. Then there's the carrot cake... definitely a keeper! We'll be back soon.
Thank you so much for your feedback, geohood! We will be sure to pass along the praise to your server, and we look forward to your next visit!
Great weekend dinner on their prime rib nights. Very crowded for Christmas and waited 1/2 hour past our reservation time. Service was great once we got seated
The food was well prepared, hot and tasted very good. Only complaint is that the variety of menu items is rather limited. Would like to see a more extensive menu.
