Nara - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
For the most part it was good HOWEVER our table was surrounded by flies. We literally killed 5 flies and after informing the waitress she brought us magazines to kill the rest. Smh the cook even sent a plate with a fly on it made out of sauces. Probably won't be returning.
Met a friend for ladies night cocktails and sushi. Love the atmosphere. Our server was attentive but not overly so. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu and able to confidently answer our questions. I would absolutely return. Only minor negative was the live music was very loud. Our table was a good distance away from the musicians yet we still had to strain to converse with each other. Overall great experience though and I will return!
It was our first time there and we enjoyed it. We had the Kung Pao Chicken and a Lobster Love Roll. Both were very good.
I was a little disappointed in the crab rangoon. They were small and not very hot. They arrived very quickly which made me think that they were premade or had been sitting in the kitchen for a while.
This was our second time here. We discovered the first time that a reservation is almost required or you can sit at the bar which is what we did our first visit. I made a reservation on open table and gave our information to the host and were seated promptly. The happy hour specials are good and sushi is always a great choice. Had the shrimp shumai and crab Rangoon as an appetizer and only 4$ each during happy hour, so yummy and such a great value. We had the sunrise roll and the lollipop roll which were also fantastic! However, toward the last 30 minutes of our visit, our waiter completely ignored us. He kept going back and forth speaking to another customer, and would not come check on us or bring us the check. At the beginning the service was good but then greatly declined. Once we got home, I received an email from open table saying Nara contacted them that we were a no show for our reservation... which was irritating. Overall a good experience except for the poor service and no show email. Will still go back for the great sushi rolls and happy hour!!
Food was excellent and the server we had was great too. My girlfriend and I were sat next to big group of people who were making it really tough to hear each other as well as hearing what the waitress was saying. The sake list could have been a bit more extensive to include Apple, plum, or lychee bottles. I had the coconut-lemongrass which was very good. Would rather have gone with a bigger group so that we could have drowned out the group next to us.
We were at Nara to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It was Wednesday and we had some great sushi from the special ladies night menu and great live music. It was a little loud but we were seated at a cozy table and did not have trouble talking. We were worried about parking but got lucky and a spot opened right when we pulled in the lot. Service was great!
one word. AMAZING. We were served by Marcos. He was energetic, funny, charismatic, and knowledgable! I went with my family for my 21st birthday and he recommended some awesome Sake, which I had never had. Marcos told us all about each dish and chatted about the type of meal we were looking for. Absolutely amazing service.
The only thing to note is that you should be prepared for high pricing. But it is SO worth it.
Drove past our regular sushi restaurants and several others to try Nara based on its current popularity. Went on a Tuesday evening and it was really loud with younger professionals from the area well into happy hour. The biggest problem was that service was slow and inattentive. When your appetizers (one cooked) arrive before you drink order put in upon arrival, there's an issue. Our server finally checked back in on us to apologize for the wait for our sushi order but left the empty appetizer serving dishes there and walked away. We had to flag someone else down just to refill water glasses. The sushi itself was good but nothing beyond what you can get at your favorite place closer to home.
Apparently a hot spot because it was packed... so good thing I made a reservation! The service was fast and our waitress was really attentive and helpful. The food was awesome and reasonably priced. It was a Friday evening and I didn't realize they did had live music. ( which was cool) BUT....It was slightly overwhelming and got so loud we could barely hear each other....or the waitress. Will definitely go back but on a less busier night :)
The food was great as always and the service was pretty good. It was ladies night with excellent specials for a good value. The only problem was the noise level. The restaurant was already packed with people and it was loud, but then you add the live musician and you couldn't hear anything. The musician was good but we had to shout at each other to have a conversation. I would still go back though.
My husband and I met our good friends there for dinner. We all had never been before. It was an amazing dinner. The service was great, the food was even better. We even signed up for their sushi making class while we were there. Definitely one of our new favorite spots!
My husband and I enjoyed Nara tremendously. We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer and they were the best I've ever had. He had a dry martini which looked fantastic. I admit, I had a little pregnancy envy there. He ordered the double pan fried beef noodles and the aroma had neighboring diners asking what he'd ordered. Delicious. I enjoyed a simple but lovely vegetable roll and the house Nara roll. Within the Nara roll is a little sliver of seasoned apple which is so bright and unique on the pallet. Excellent service. We will certainly be returning soon.
