Nara - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
Our watress was almost non-existent the entire night. It took 30minutrs to get a drink and there was only 4 other tables there. She kept leaving and wouldn’t take our order and didn’t check up on us. We noticed that all the other servers were on their phone and non-attentive. The sushi came out cold (I ordered Tempura- should have been at least warm) and the watress never brought us soy suace. I had To get up and get it from the surrounding tables. I’m
Leaving this 1star- will never recommend it and will not be back.
We came for a New Years Date and made reservations during the happy hour. We were seated in the back by the window in what seemed to be a VIP lounge that was AMAZING and quiet! Definitely would suggest asking to sit there. The food was perfect and I would suggest getting the miso soup as a starter, Delicious.
Had a wonderful meal with my girlfriend on a busy Saturday night. No issue with my reservation, was seated right away, waitress was new & young but did a good job. I asked about a sushi roll not on the menu, she went and asked the sushi chef & he said yes, he could make it. Great sushi & cool downtown view to the North where we could see Christmas lights on the high rise buildings.
Sushi was well proportioned, fresh and tasty. Had all Nigiri sushi, although the menu had many more options. The service was a little slow at first but then had a nice rhythm. We were in no hurry so not an issue. It is loud but on Saturday night in the city I wanted some excitement. Love the urban feel of the building, lighting and ambience are great.
We went to Nara at 5:30 on a Friday for happy hour before an opera at the Kauffman Center. We enjoyed a few appetizers off the HH menu and shared some entrees. Our server was very attentive and the food was on point! Sushi was very good. Will definitely go back again.
For the most part it was good HOWEVER our table was surrounded by flies. We literally killed 5 flies and after informing the waitress she brought us magazines to kill the rest. Smh the cook even sent a plate with a fly on it made out of sauces. Probably won't be returning.
Met a friend for ladies night cocktails and sushi. Love the atmosphere. Our server was attentive but not overly so. She was also very knowledgeable about the menu and able to confidently answer our questions. I would absolutely return. Only minor negative was the live music was very loud. Our table was a good distance away from the musicians yet we still had to strain to converse with each other. Overall great experience though and I will return!
It was our first time there and we enjoyed it. We had the Kung Pao Chicken and a Lobster Love Roll. Both were very good.
I was a little disappointed in the crab rangoon. They were small and not very hot. They arrived very quickly which made me think that they were premade or had been sitting in the kitchen for a while.
This was our second time here. We discovered the first time that a reservation is almost required or you can sit at the bar which is what we did our first visit. I made a reservation on open table and gave our information to the host and were seated promptly. The happy hour specials are good and sushi is always a great choice. Had the shrimp shumai and crab Rangoon as an appetizer and only 4$ each during happy hour, so yummy and such a great value. We had the sunrise roll and the lollipop roll which were also fantastic! However, toward the last 30 minutes of our visit, our waiter completely ignored us. He kept going back and forth speaking to another customer, and would not come check on us or bring us the check. At the beginning the service was good but then greatly declined. Once we got home, I received an email from open table saying Nara contacted them that we were a no show for our reservation... which was irritating. Overall a good experience except for the poor service and no show email. Will still go back for the great sushi rolls and happy hour!!
Food was excellent and the server we had was great too. My girlfriend and I were sat next to big group of people who were making it really tough to hear each other as well as hearing what the waitress was saying. The sake list could have been a bit more extensive to include Apple, plum, or lychee bottles. I had the coconut-lemongrass which was very good. Would rather have gone with a bigger group so that we could have drowned out the group next to us.
We were at Nara to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It was Wednesday and we had some great sushi from the special ladies night menu and great live music. It was a little loud but we were seated at a cozy table and did not have trouble talking. We were worried about parking but got lucky and a spot opened right when we pulled in the lot. Service was great!
