My wife and several of her friends, small group, about 4 went there in the middle of the week. The sushi seemed to be a bit on the dry side, as if they had cut the pieces earlier in the day and they dried out on the edges. We patronize several local sushi places, and while it was not bad, it did not live up to the reputation and not worth the drive from the suburbs. Again, not bad, just not worth the trip and higher prices we normally see in other sushi bars.
Son visiting. Going to concert
Truly had an exceptional experience. Our terrific server, Janet, skillfully and happily guided us through the menu including creating special orders for us. Very cool historic building, great food, great time. Thanks!
Great food and service
I was impressed with the menu items I received when I ordered the sashimi assortment. Thick gorgeous cuts of octopus, fish, and shrimp. The price, also with a glass of wine, was more than I wanted to pay but I was happy overall. I am happy I decided to try Nara a second time. The first time was not a great experience and left me feeling lackluster about the place. I’m happy I came back.
Sushi for people that don’t know real sushi. Sashimi was cut wrong and everything seemed to have cream cheese. Waste of money!
Really enjoyed Nara and the quality of the food was excellent. The only issue I had was portion sizes on the Dinner entrees - some were very large while others were small. Makes it difficult to determine how much to order of other items.
Overall I recommend.
Food was amazing! Server was pretty busy but attentive and unobtrusive, let us enjoy our meal
Always take time to listen to the specials. They are always amazing.
This restaurant came recommended and was disappointing on almost every level. The venue was funky but not aesthetically developed. Our server was friendly but did not explain the way sushi a la carted was purchased. The world over if you order tobiko or ikura sashimi as a side to a sushi diner they do not serve you 5 portions for $18. I understood that at this restaurant that’s the way it is. The sushi itself was mediocre; they seem to do a big business in rolls and it seems like sauces and rice prevail over fine quality. A large variety of mixed drinks and lots of young people eating rolls on a Thursday night. A far cry from the quality of a Sushi I am accustomed to in. New York. Exoensive and disappointing
My rolls though speciality rolls were made using very died out ingredients not freshly
Sliced and for $16/ per roll I would expect that you could take the time to freshly slice and prepare each item such as fresh jalapeños and oranges that goes into it since we were two people of four innthe total restaurant. I had both rolls presented differently than described and previously ordered. The food took far longer than it should have since there were no people even there. The beers were not the coldest and they were bottled. I was overly disappointed in the cost and the value presented. I had the sexy momma and river dance roll. The fish was not cold and that was concerning.
Service started a little slow, order not accurate but food was good.
Great lunch date, the food was amazing, and the service was perfect!
The tuna and yellow tail were good but the rolls we had were rather dry without alot of flavor. The meal overall was still good. Our server was very good and was always around to make sure our beverages were full and we had everything we needed. She was also very personable. I liked the atmosphere and while we did not use it, the bar area looked like a cool place for groups to hang out. Also, kind of a random find for a sushi restaurant but they had really good coffee!
I am doing the Whole30 diet and had a special request for my dinner. the server was so pleasant and said it would be no problem! My dinner not only looked amazing but the flavors were amazing!! I really appreciated the restaurant and kitchen being so accommodating!
NARA is always at the top of my list for sushi. Fresh, imaginative and delicious!
Love NARA! Food is always good. Tried the lettuce wraps for the first time and they were best I’ve ever had. This night was a very busy night so service was a little slow, but certainly not bad. Will definitely visit again!!
I have been to Nara several times and never a bad experience.
Great place for some sushi and red sangria!
Great food but your beer menu could use an overhaul! Catch the wave of the craft beer craze. Service was great as well!
We had not been to Nara for several years and I left asking myself, "why not". The food and sake were excellent. Great service and ambiance. I want to go back again. Lots of great items to choose from. Highly recommended!
Loved the live music. He was great. Server was courteous and quick. Food came out very quickly.
Will always be a favorite restaurant of mine. Love the atmosphere.
Chef Koji is the best!
Our server was like a ray of sunshine and everything tasted great :).
the very best sushi in kansas city. I think I've been to all and this was the best service, the best sushi, the best value, and the most accommodating staff.
Great food and service!
Nara has become quite disappointing the last few times I've been here. This is evident by the fact that there were less than 5 tables at prime dining hours during this visit. Our server was good, but the food left a lot to be desired. The sushi tasted like the ones you buy at a grocery store for a quick lunch. It will take a lot for me to be back anytime soon. Something needs to change, otherwise I see a bleak future for this once great sushi restaurant.
Food was good! Drinks were good! I really enjoyed the Sexy Momma Roll. The Mango Tango roll was odd with the jelly like sauce on top. The service was BAD. Our waiter forgot to put in our food order and came back an hour later and retook our order. He brought us another round of drinks which he stated was on him. This was great, except he didn't ask if we wanted more drinks and we weren't in the mood for more drinks so we wasted two perfectly good drinks. I felt is was very unprofessional that we never saw a manager. We arrived at 7:30 and didn't leave until 9:30 due to terrible service. A manger never came to apologize.
Use to be so good. Had not visited in some time... unfortunately... nothing was very good. Nothing seemed fresh... just not good. Will be going else where for my next sushi craving.
Overall very good. Food was out fast, almost too fast. Kind of felt rushed.
Sat at the bar - the bartender was very friendly
Wife Birthday
Great time for Happy Hour! We were having a late lunch and didn't realize it was Happy Hour at 3 p.m. Sushi was amazing and we had dessert too. The Lava Cake and Rumchata cheesecake bites are wonderful.
The environment was pleasant, however, the tall ceiling and open design made for higher ambient noise level. The service was great and wait staff were very accommodating and professional. The food was absolutely excellent, good portions of fresh sushi with great presentation! This is my third visit and each time has been superb. Ideal place to dine prior to attending events at the Performing Arts Center or other downtown venues.
We had a selection of rolls and everyone was excellent. The service was very friendly and really made for an enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.
It was amazing as always!
This is the second time we have eaten at Nara. We thought we’d give it another try as we’ve been told it’s really good by so many people. Not really sure but I would say this is my 5th or 6th favorite sushi place in town and it’s mostly cause the building is so cool. The food is just ok and they are very proud of it. The options on rolls is nothing special. The wine list is a joke and the cocktails are all sugar bombs. Try it if you must but there are better sushi opinions in the area.
Great sushi, fun atmosphere. Also really enjoyed the crab Rangoon and fried pickles.
So much to choose from. The crispy spring rolls were great. Spicy beef and broccoli was SPICY, but good. My Manhattan was great.
