Napa Valley Bistro was opened in 2013 by chefs Bernardo Ayala and Ernesto Martinez, (also co-owner of Market in St. Helena). Their friendship and working relationship, which has lasted over 20 years was so successful, they decided to pool their resources and stake a claim in downtown Napa’s expanding culinary scene. Their aim was to create their own version of classic world cuisine in a comfortable space where family and community could gather for any occasion. The twist is evident in the menus, which sample fare from around the globe. Guests can choose from traditionally prepared Mexican Empanadas or timeless American favorites like the Lamb Burger and St. Louis Ribs. Other options include Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Chinese Chicken Salad and Seasonal Risotto. Our Wine & Beer List includes local wines leaning toward small producers & craft brews.

Birthday
We made reservations ahead of time and asked for a window seat inside.
Will sit in the back of the restaurant the last table by the door to the bathroom.
This was unacceptable and we ask to move they seemed bothered but moved us anyways there was only one other party in the restaurant it shouldn’t have bothered them to complete our request in reservation for a table by the window,

Don’t think I’ll go back. Went to celebrate dads birthday and it was an overall weird experience.

1. We were gifted a glass of wine before being sat (by a few friends). When server came to pour wine, he asked what style of glasses we’d like to use… and then pour a different kind of wine into the glass we already had… server should have brought a whole set of wine glasses as the ones we originally had were from the bar and had white wine in them, not red.
2. Was asked which bottle of wine to first pour. (We brought our own wine.) Servers weren’t too familiar with the levels of wine and how you start pouring/ which goes first. Pinot, cab, etc.
3. Ordered meat and the temperature was not taken into account so server served the incorrect temperature to each person

Definitely a lot of room for improvement. With more experience, these servers will do an incredible job! Unfortunately, it was not well executed.

Server was delightful but food so so. Felt rushed. We barely were finished with our appetizer and entrees were served They did have a large party but still not a place I’ll rush back to.

Lovely quiet place for lunch. Linen napkins (black...don't leave lint on black slacks!) and tablecloth. Great service and wonderful food. Upscale, a bit pricey but worth it. Ask for their house made foccacia bread. Fish and chips were awesome.

I am never disappointed at Chef Bernardo's Bistro. The food is imaginative, artistic, and always delicious. Clay runs a terrific front of the house and the servers are polite, professional and efficient. This was a lunch meeting, but dinner is even better. We'll be back often for both.

Our service was lacking. We waited a long time in between visits to the table and we watched our food sit at the window for about 15 mins before he picked it up. Food was good though and i saw others getting better service so it may have been this one person.

A reliably good restaurant. We went because they were having Wild Game Week, and we were not disappointed. The service was friendly, informed, and reasonably attentive. The food was excellent, from the focaccia bread in the beginning to my favorite dessert (Affogato). The pace of the meal was good, the food was tasty and well-prepared, and the wine (Lunar Ridge Syrah), after a bit of “breathing, was thoroughly enjoyable. Note that the restaurant is quite loud, especially if you are with older people who have hearing aids. It would also be helpful for those occupying the table right next to the door (us) if restaurant staff could ensure that the door stays firmly shut on cold nights (meaning make sure it closes completely after people come in or go out). I would actually rate this 4.5 star if it was possible.

We all enjoyed another great meal at Napa Valley Bistro. The chef designed a very seasonal menu for “Wild Game Week”, and we each found a favorite. I had Duck Cassoulet with Wild Boar Sausage, our friends had Rack of Venison, and Buffalo Short Ribs. The service was warm and attentive!

We always look forward to Wild Game Week at NVB. Bill had the venison and I had the lamb burger (not on the special menu). Both were delicious. Best lamb burger I've ever had. Omar was our waiter and he was very thoughtful and did a great job. Manager Clay is always on hand to meet our every need. Highly recommend.

If you like great food and wonderful service at extremely reasonable prices then NV Bistro is the place. This is a regular of ours and we always leave happy. The staff are so friendly and unpretentious, a true Napa local.

The service was incredible as everyone was very helpful and happy. The food was amazing. We had the shrimp appetizer, chop salad, ribs and scallops. All were made to perfection. Unfortunately we were too full to try the warm fudge cake. Next time for sure!!

Great food for the price...Salmon was top notch, Chicken salad excellent. Portions were nice size. We sat inside which i think is the preferred spot...Will certainly return. Very reasonable corkage fee @$15.

I don’t want to say that the food was overpriced, but instead I will say the value wasn’t there. The atmosphere was very cold. Servers were nice, but they seemed distracted. Otherwise, it was a very average experience. Typical restaurant. Not bad, not great.

I asked for fresh, cracked pepper on my chopped salad and they never brought it. I asked for some bread with my salad and they never brought it. It wasn’t that busy. Salmon was very good but overpriced for a lunch entree. Chopped salad was decent, but was lacking in flavor. They wouldn’t add chicken to it, which was disappointing but they had chicken as add ons for other dishes.

The drink menu is awesome and the drinks are so tasty. The pineapple jalapeno margarita was delicious and the Dungness Crab skillet was wonderful We also tried the mushroom flatbread and we loved it. We can't wait to go back and try the other menu items.
