Amazing experience all around; incredibly fresh and inventive sushi, outstanding service and attention to detail - a newly discovered, special gem that will now be in heavy rotation.
Food was outstanding! Our party all loves sushi and has had sushi all over, but hands down this is the best sushi dining experience by far. Our server Derick made the experience over the top. A bucket of fried chicken and the end of your meal - WHAT? You must go to experience. Ask for Derick as your server.
We had an excellent experience sitting at the sushi bar and enjoying the Omakase menu
It was truly a fantastic experience! Hard to find a good authentic Nigiri sushi in Chicago. I highly recommend this place if you want a simple and fresh nigiri.
The best sushi restaurant in Chicago! Food is outstanding and service is amazing.
Even though we have been next door neighbors for the last few years, this was our first visit and we were impressed by the quality of food and service. Don’t be scared by the way into the restaurant, as you may think they are taking you to the storage room at the back. LOL. We also loved the sake flight. You must try it!
the testaurant was CLOSED to a power outage...
they shouldnt be accepting reservations on open table if they are not open 🙄
Loved the tucked away ambience of Naoki and the authentic Japanese cuisine!
Amazing dining experience. Handcrafted cocktails, and food plates are to die for. Everything is fresh and made just for you. I’ll look for more opportunities to keep going back! Love this place!
Wonderfully fresh fish prepared and served in imaginative ways. Very polite, but not obsequious service. A must-go spot for anyone looking for something above & beyond a typical sushi spot.
While the outward appearance of this restaurant was unassuming and casual, our experience was anything but. We sampled so many different items, all creative, top-notch quality, and delicious, and Derrick and Grant were fantastic guides for our journey. Price-wise, consider this a special occasion kind of place...definitely worth it.
Amazing fresh sushi, top notch service, trendy and very unique ambiance. Prepare for a $100 dinner for two, but worth every penny.
Another pleasant evening at Naoki. A restful oasis with very beautiful food!
Service was great, fried chicken is to die for, sushi is top notch!
Great service and the blue fin tuna tartare was amazing! Sake selection is vast!
Love Naoki and I’m very public about it. Writing rave reviews everywhere. They have the food down pat. No question best sushi in Chicago. Their drink menu though could use some work. While they have an extensive (and rather expensive) list of Japanese saki and whiskey, their cocktails are served using standard ice cubes that melt quickly and dilute the drink.
Great value, currently best sushi in town !
Perfect for an easy night out - or omakase at the counter.
Some of the best sushi that I have ever had. Almost couldn't stop ordering more and more.
We have been here twice and have had the same experience. The food is great! The atmosphere is underwhelming and there is a real disconnect when it comes to service. It's a high end and expensive sushi spot wanting to be chic but with mediocre service. The staff is not very well trained or polished which is what you would expect. They might as well be working at RJ Grunts. It's too bad because the food is good but quite a let down from such a successful restaurant group. Don't think we will be back.
The food is always stellar. Chef Naoki is clearly a seasoned sushi chef. This is some of the best sushi in the city---comparable to top places in NYC and Tokyo. Service is spotty, though, which makes it hard to give this place top marks...We had requested a booth several weeks in advance. We reconfirmed the request the night before and were assured the request was noted with our reservation. As this was a special birthday celebration, it was important that we get the booth. Upon arrival, it was clear that the booth was not reserved for us...and on top of that, all three parties were sat at the same time. One of the couples had only just gotten their waters. So it was hugely disappointing that the host staff did not take this request into consideration. We are frequent diners at Lettuce and have been to Naoki on numerous occasions. As loyal patrons, we we had much higher expectations for service. There was an apology made by the host person, but it was meek. There seemed to be an apparent lack in service. We were offered a seat at the sushi bar and given a complimentary glass of sake to start and mochi dessert to finish. But it did not make up for the upset. The host staff did not seem to match the caliber of such a fine-dining establishment. It's a very intimate and quiet space deserving of a very discreet, but attentive host/management team. There was a lot of bouncing around and an energy that was better suited for a bustling bistro-type of atmosphere. Odd choice for front of house. We will definitely pause before considering another visit. It's a shame because the sushi is excellent.
Naoki was amazing as always. The chef special sashimi was outstanding! Fresh as fresh can be. Our waiter, Derrick was very attentive, professional and friendly. I can't wait to return in a couple of weeks. It is hands down our favorite sushi/sashimi venue. Cheers! Cherie
Consistently fabulous service and delicious food makes Naoki a place we come back to often!
Excellent sushi date night! Always our favorite. Consistently great service, attention to detail and amazing quality sushi selections. Intimate atmosphere.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at Naoki this past weekend. I made the reservations through Open Table and was contacted in person later in the week to confirm my reservation and discuss my gluten-free needs. I have Celiac Disease and like to get a sense of my options before arriving to a restaurant. The host was great and spoke to me about the various gluten-free options available, as well as their gluten-free menu and their awareness of cross-contamination, etc. Once we arrived, we walked through an amazing open kitchen to the host stand where we were further guided into the dining room. We were pleasantly surprised by the intimate ambiance. The host knew to provide one gluten-free menu and our server was great with walking me through it. I felt super comfortable and at east throughout my entire dining experience. The food and drinks were amazing and I cannot wait to come back!
Fantastic meal. Server was a bit busy but that’s understandable. Love the food and atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!
So we went to Naoki for our 25th anniversary... i’m a big believer in lettuce entertain you restaurants – they’ve always been about service, food quality, and food quantity. Tonight we had some pretty outstanding ambience, a server that was nice – but not overly attentive, and food that was extremely unexceptional for the price. On the upside the manager/host who sat us was very nice and we felt very welcomed when we arrived. But we are very used to normal sushi, from normal sushi restaurants… And this was just that (but hand rolls were tiny, the appetizer had a lovely taste but was overpriced based on portion, and chirashi Was exceptionally unexceptional..) Again I was expecting something - Unique or special for the price point. We did not find Naoki to be unique or exceptional.
Thee food.was amazing but the service is very poor. At the final of the dinner the waiter bring me the check and cant offer a desert.
Service is rote and generally unaware. Food was terrific.
Literally a "hidden" gem. Wonderful dining room. Exceptional sushi with many "first time I've seen that on a sushi menu in Chicago" offerings. A little pricier than some other sushi joints, but the quality and attention to detail make it well worth it.
This is one of our favorite restaurants for sushi and delicious cocktails. The staff is attentive and always makes us feel welcome.
Good fresh food, the music was atrocious and too loud. We don’t need pop music at what is supposed to be a nice restaurant. Hurt the ambiance and the experience.
Excellent and creative sushi restaurant with plenty of options for non-sushi friends. We've ordered carry out from Naoki on many occasions, but this was our first time dining in the restaurant. It is a real gem! We invited friends from out of town to join us and it felt like a "hidden Chicago" experience. The hostess led us through the kitchen to get to the small, private-feel dining room. The maki is wonderfully innovative (try the miso salmon roll!) and the sashimi is top notch. No need to douse your sushi in soy sauce here - the chef does an excellent job with flavors such that the food stands on its own. We were surprised that they offered fried chicken (apparently only on Sunday and Monday nights). We had one guest who was uncomfortable with "raw fish", so we decided to order the fried chicken for her. She had to fight off the rest of us - it was delicious! We have lived in Chicago for 15 years and this will be our "go-to" for sushi going forward!
WE have been dining at Naoki for over two years. Chef Naoki is a gem. A great sushi chef and a gentleman. He serves the finest & freshest and most inventive sushi & sashimi in Chicago. Everything is the menu is delicious. Equally important, Naoki never disappoints. I don't know how he/they do it, but the standards are always consistently high.
We shall look forward to many, many happy returns.
Cody & Marci.
The food was great. Super fresh and top quality fish. The service was extremely kind and attentive. I loved everything
Unique little spot and although not many vegan option on menu, would highly recommend since chef did an unbelievable job creating an all veggie maki that was the best I've ever had! Much appreciated!
I was one of Naoki's first customers when they first opened and we were so impressed with the menu and the food was a culinary experience. Loved it and have been a frequent customer since. Service was excellent.
Outstanding experience. My friend who happens to be a girl, Maeve, had a wonderful birthday.
Celebrating birthdays. I’m a regular at Naoki for less than a year and I’m a super fan. Every time I come, he has something new on the chef special menu. It’s so good. My friends are impressed!!!
