Nanni's Restaurant is an Italian restaurant that is casual and perfect for date night or a small group gathering. Enjoy one of several dishes of antipasti like the carpacio a piacere, peperoni arrostiti con acciughe, asparagi con vinegrette or vongole oregante. Nanni's serves pasta dishes that include capellini alla primavera, tortellini mantecati, gnocchi alla piemontese, linguine ai frutti di mare and risotto ai porcini. Dine on a seafood dish like the snapper sautéed with red sauce, or swordfish with capers. Try the chicken with garlic, tomato and peppers or the veal with eggplant and cheese. Nanni's Restaurant serves desserts of sorbetto al limone and sorbetto al mandarino along with espresso or American coffee. If you are unable to make it to the restaurant to dine, there is a take-out option available.
Good menu, but it seemed like the same sauce was used on most of the dishes. Veal meatballs were rubbery and the veal scallopini disappointingly tough. Porcini pasta was rough and heavy. Even though service was good, the experience was disappointing for such a highly rated restaurant.
Food was solid, but nothing one cannot find in other Italian restaurants. Service was disappointingly inattentive. We ordered Caesar Salads that took forever to arrive, and finding someone to simply refill a water glass was maddeningly frustrating. The tables are so close to one another and the space in parts of the restaurant is so cramped that one sits "back-to-back" (chairs bumping into one another) with someone at the next table and it is difficult to maneuver one's way to and from one's table.
The food was excellent but the service was horrific. We ordered soup for appetizer and it took one hour to arrive (no joke). The main course did not come for another 45 minutes (after I asked the waiter twice). When it did come, both myself and my dining partner did not receive the side pasta. When the waiter brought them, it was the wrong type of pasta. It took another 10minutes to get the right type. It is very expensive which is not unusual for a mid-town Italian restaurant, however, to justify the price you need both the food and service to be optimal. The food was the service was not. There are too many other good options to take another chance. It is a shame because I always liked Nanni's and used to come quite often a few years back.
Our friends who formerly lived in NYC sent us here, and we're so glad they did. The staff was old school charming and the food was amazing. Whatever you do, get pasta with the Nanni sauce to try.
Everything was fantastic! This restaurant is a must for anyone who lives life, food and wine!
With the number of 5 star rankings, I was ready to be impressed -- but wasn't. The food was good, but not great, with the saltimboca a bit oily. The service was gruff, although that didn't really bother me. The wines by the glass were very limited, an okay Chianti as the only red, but the pour was generous.
It's a charming restaurant, a bit small but it definitely makes up in the food quality, friendly and excellent service and very moderrate prices.
At least twice a year, my husband and I dine here. He waits all year for the Nanni sauce and capellini!
I had the nightly special, baby soft shell crabs - fabulous!
I've been coming here for 35+ (I think) years when I'm in NYC and have never been disappointed.
The food was good but I'll never return to the restaurant because the noise level was so intense that conversation was impossible without shouting. This made for a miserable evening.
Exactly what we were looking for. But you forget old school Italian food comes with old school Italian owners and staff. So unless you're a regular do not expect to get treated well. But I guess it's part of the charm. The food was good though and hit the spot.
Its a bit cramped in here so be prepared to get to know your neighbour! The food and service were fine if a bit rushed.
Never disappointed and always go there looking forward to another great meal.
I have been going to Nannis for about 25 years and it feels like home.
Great pasta, great fish and meat dishes and great waiters.
It feels like home and I recommend it to all my friends
Figured is was on its way out. No one dining among us. Food was awful and service poor. Not surprised it closed.
The food was very good, the bread excellent, the service good also. The wine list is very small and the lowest priced bottle of white wine, a Sicilian Chardonnay, was $55 which I think is very expensive for what it was.
Great service and food. Very accommodating for special dietary requests.
This place is probably the oldest surviving Italian restaurant from the old days. The food is good but not great but it's worth a visit if in the area.
Always a warm welcome upon arrival. Service is friendly and the wait staff has been the same for the few years I've been going there. That, to me, is always a good sign. The kitchen accommodates off menu requests and the food is great. I will be returning again.
Old-fashioned Italian staple. Wonderful service and superb cuisine. Seafood specials especially wonderful.
What a wonderfully consistent NY tradition. Nanni continues to deliver an Italian authenticity that makes me proud every time I stop in for dinner.
Tucked in between big buildings and quick food outlets, Nanni is a gem that never changes. The food is fantastic, the waiters and stuff old school, and the experience makes me miss the place every time we leave. The Nanni sauce is a specialty, but I go with Chicken Scarpariello which I have never been able to duplicate any place else. it is also perfect as only New Yorkers come here - no tourists with circle line bags! However, if you are from out of town, put away the guide book and experience classic NY Italian food. This is a high end experience and worth every minute and penny.
For 30+ years we've been making Nanni a regular stop whenever we're in NYC. It has never disappointed.
Heard about this place from a friend. I was looking for a great place to have a family dinner that wasn't too trendy or pretentious that had great food. We were not disappointed with Nanni. The service was great and staff extremely friendly and attentive. Food was great, especially anything with their signature nanni sauce. I highly recommend this restaurant. Amazing Authenic italian and great family atmosphere.
Nanni's has the best italian food! My dad brought me to the restaurant earlier in the year, as it has been his favorite place in NYC for over 30 years. My husband and I went back to Nanni's for dinner this past weekend, which was the first opportunity we had. It is really that good! The food is fresh, delicious, and the menu offers a great selection of appetizers and entrees. The service is exceptional. Come on an empty stomach, as you will want to clean your plate! I highly recommend the risotto!
Every time we are visiting NYC, we will be headed to Nanni's for dinner. I look forward to it already...
Service was hectic and chaotic but got the job done. It is an entertainment in itself to watch the staff at "work". Food really was quite good but the wine list was limited. Stick to whatever your waiter recommends - he has been drinking a lot of it.
Awesome dinner at Nanni. This was the second time I have been there and the food and service were just as good this time. We all agreed that it is a place we would like to come back to next time we are in NYC. We enjoyed the service and the very comfortable feel of the restaurant. It can get a little loud when all the tables are full but it wasn't a problem for us.
What a find and so close to GCT! The food was delicious and our waiter was fantastic. It is a very quaint restaurant - just like being in Italy! We were a small group of 5. I don't think I'd go over that size for a group.
I have been to Nanni's many times over the years, but sadly, it seems to be going downhill. I asked for a table in the upper section because the lower section is so noisy. Although all of the tables in that section were available, we were not permitted to sit there (the host insisted that there were few guests expected and it would be quiet - but the place was packed and we had to shout to be heard). The wait staff was a bit rude and the service was sloppy - e.g., the soup was set down so abruptly it spilled (the waiter apologized, saying the bowl had been filled too full). The service remained unprofessional throughout the meal. The food was mediocre (the side vegetable appeared to be frozen peas). I won't be going back any time soon.
Unbelievable. Make sure to get the Cheese and Supprasatta to start and the Nanni Pasta. Had their chicken cutlet in lemon, white wine and a drop of butter which was so tender you can cut it with a fork. Highly Reccomend.
Food is always great but the noise level makes conversation almost impossible. It seems a favorite for large business- expense account dinners, who generate most of the noise. The restaurant has been around a long time and the acoustics are either ancient and therefore, probably non-existent. Also, we have yet to ever see a wine list. The wine we get is always the waiter's choice which sometimes is not what we want.If we go again, it's only for the wonderful food.
Great food. . Small restaurant with great service and very good food
We were very pleased with Nanni. We were in the vicinity of GCT and had to catch a 7 pm Metro North, so early dining was a necessity. The food was superb and the service almost too good (many seasoned staff hovering around). Even our normally finicky grandchildren (10 and 13) loved their pasta bolognese dishes. If we lived closer, Nanni would be a frequent destination.
We were the last customers . I went to the washroom left my pashmina on the chair came back and it was gone. Maître d lied to me said my friends had it . They were outside and he locked the door on them
I want answers you don't treat any customer like that
We had a great dinner on Saturday night! We ordered the pasta Nanni as appetizer, I had chicken & peppers dish, my husband had the chicken special and enjoyed a bottle of Chianti. We would definitely recommend this restaurant, and we will be back next time we are back in NYC!
Delighted with the service and the food. The experience is like visiting a friend, an old favorite friend. Would go again when in NY.
Nothing impressive. It was just o k. Waiter was not much help in selecting the right dish. Food was just so so. Think they are banking on their past reputation which means nothing today
where have the good waiters gone? I haven't been here in years but when recently and was very disappointed in the service. I had ordered a pasta appetizer and they gave me the wrong pasta, when I pointed it out to the waiter he said "tough, eat this" and didn't change it with the correct order......although the food was good, I will never go there again.
Nanni's is largely unchanged after years in the same midtown location. Very friendly service
Recommended by my brother who has been here several times, my husband and I made a reservation for a special dinner. It would be our last night in NYC after 14 days. Nanni's is everything my brother already said: good food, good wine (except I as a woman was not involved by the decision, my husband had to decide.....bit oldfashioned), but very good serving (with humor). We liked the atmosphere and when we come back to NYC we will certainly go back to Nanni's!
We had a reservation but still had to wait 15 minutes for our table but the party of 5 that came in after was seated immediately. Our table was almost in an aisle way so waiters had to lift trays over our heads. Service was horrible. Noise level was off the charts & food was just ok...nothing special. Not sure why it received such a high score by Zagat.
