Nanking Asian Grill - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Really enjoy Nanking - good food, environment and service. But I wouldn't go without some sort of deal or special. Their rack rate menu prices are just too high, compared to what other sushi places in Fort Lauderdale charge - even those on or around Las Olas Blvd. We had two single liquor well brand drinks, my partner had one bowl of soup and we each ordered 2 rolls a piece (his were straightfwd tuna rolls, mine were specialty). No dessert. The tab was $92.
Love the place...hope they offer a special sometime soon.
Everything was fantastic, from the food to the atmosphere my fiancé and I loved it. The only thing we didn't like was the service. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel like we were such a big inconvenience to the staff. Our server wasn't friendly and showed that she wanted get the order as fast as possible and rushed us. I ordered a sweet tea and she brought me unsweetened and told me they don't have sweet. I would have ordered something different if I would have known ahead of time. We got the spicy salmon roll as an appitizer (Which was fantastic) but after we finished our plates were never taken. After a short wait after the app, our entrees were brought out but our plates were never taken. I can't remember exactly what we order but it was a lot of food, very filing, and absolutely delicious. The only thing that brought down my eating experience was that both my water and tea were left empty and wasn't refilled until when I was almost done eating. We were offered dessert but we declined and requested the check. She left to get the check but the plates (including the appitizer plates) were not picked up. After she brought the check, took our payment, and then come back to bring back the slip was when she decided to get the plates. Overall I would give Nanking a second try however it's because of the amazing food and atmosphere. The service is definitely not what would bring a customer back.
This is a great restaurant with great potential - unfortunately the service is very poor. Food was very good with the exception of the Mongolian Beef which was chewy. The hostess was not very friendly and our waitress was uninformed and unprofessional. A wonderful restaurant like this needs much better service. We were sharing dishes but they did not bring us plates. After the food started cooling down, I got up to find the waitress and asked her for plates for the second time. Her response was "I'll get them when I can". Sorry, this just doesn't cut it.
I really don't understand all the complaints and lukewarm or poor reviews. We had terrific, friendly service, a wonderful outdoor table, relaxing jazz music over the speakers (thank you for NOT blasting the tiresome top 40 and dance music you hear everywhere else.) the sushi was very fresh. What else could we ask for? The menu prices are definitely too high, based upon mid to upscale sushi places elsewhere in Ft Laud - I think that's the only issue I'd have. But the restaurant runs occasional groupons and with one in hand, that issue is mitigated. We're locals who have eaten here at least 4-5 times before and fully intend to return in the next few months.
This isn't the place I'd visit if you're in a rush or just want to eat and go...maybe that's the problem other reviewers faced. We were in no hurry...just enjoying the atmosphere and each other's company.
I called to advise i was running 20mins late. They did not deactivate their voicemal. I arrived and greeter told me i had to wait 10-15mins. no tables. I requested manager and she apologized but sat us right away. Confusion as to who was our waiter. Food took 43mins to arrive. 4 other guest tables walked out due to poor service. Not worth it.
We have been to this restaurant three or four times. The food is wonderful, the restaurant beautiful, and with the exception of the last time the service has been excellent. I'm not convinced it was all our server's fault because his tables where spread out from one end to the other. The manager got involved and was extremely kind. This place is worth trying.
Reservation was no problem. Sat quickly, server, Jose, was great with recommendations. Spot on. The steak and sushi were both exceptional. Only complaint was that the steak was brought out about 10 mins before the sushi was, would have been nice to eat at the same time. We were planning on sharing anyway, so it worked out ok.
First time going to Nanking and the overall experience was pretty good. I went with my two friends as a birthday dinner and went all out. We started with a bottle of wine from their impressive wine list. The waiter was a bit surprised to see that we were all 21 and tried to make a joke about it, but just ended up coming up a bit condescending.
Overall, the food was great and even though by the time we ordered dessert it took over 30 minutes to bring it out the waiter was nice enough to deduct the pricing of the bill because of our wait. Other than those two events the food was top notch, except the bowl of rice it came on the side was a bit tasteless, but the actual courses of food were memorable and savory to say the least.
My wife and I were extremely surprised at the quality of the food. The sushi could not have been more fresh. The presentation was very creative. The Chinese food menu was also excellent. Dessert amazing! Our server Lauren could not have been sweeter. I would definitely recommend you give them a try.
I was so impressed with the food and service the first time I dined here I could not wait to go back. Huge disappoinment. Although the service was good on both occasions the sushi went from wow to bland. Really? How does this happen. Believe it or not, even though it is the same thing night after night, we expect it to be special and to get what we pay for every time. We want it to be memorable - in a good way.
the miso soup tasted like miso water, the green curry tofu was just ok. I asked for it to have a spice level of a 7 and it was not spicy at all. I had reservation at 5:30 party of 2 and we arrived they said they only had a table by the musician and the hosted acted like it was a bad thing, and said all the other tables were reserved. I questioned her because we had reservations, so the start didn't make us feel welcome. We were sat in the bar area and it took about 12 minutes to get our appatisers ordered. We ordered 1 sushi roll - it was ok. the soup was ok. for dinner the kung pour chicken was good. it would not go back back to this restaurant because I don't like average food. The restaurant was never full while we were there from 5:30 to 7pm on a Saturday night.
Nanking is an average hotel restaurant. The food was fine but not anything special. The ambiance was pretty bad. I went there for my anniversary expecting something more high end and romantic on the water. Instead we found Nanking to be a loosely Chinese themed lobby restaurant with a one man band playing old lounge music. Weird.
We were here during the Superbowl so that may account for the slowness of the service. Some of the people in our party of five really enjoyed their meals others said that theirs was just average. I think I would like to go back next time we stay at the Hilton Marina and try it on a night that is not Superbowl Sunday and try something else on the menu. There were several things that looked good and I would love to give this restaurant another chance.
We went to Nanking on january 31st. The service was good, the soup and the dessert was outstanding, the sushis was just ok (not at the level for a restaurant of this kind). The ambiance was great.
We decided to return to Nanking on February 1st. The service was poor. the taste of the soup was not the same as the day before. My main dishes was so spicy that I was not able to eat and note that I like spicy food. I think the staff had lost control that night.
Unfortunately, the service and the food are not constant and it's sad because this restaurant has a good potential.
