Nando Milano Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
The food was pretty good, but was not worth the high price. I was a bit disappointed in service and the slowness of the food; the manager or owner was attentive at first but then after 20 minutes, always had to ask for more to drink, it took a long time to get the bill, and the fact they didn't provide free soda refills....gets pricey after a few narrow glasses of soda for $3 each.
This is probably my favorite restaurant when visiting Chicago--such friendly, attentive staff; good wine list, and excellent food. My own quick test for whether a restaurant has quality food is whether or not they can do vegetables well. Really, anyone can cook pasta or meat and please lots of people. But if a restaurant cares about preparing vegetables well, usually everything is prepared well and the quality is excellent for everything, from salads to dessert. That's the case here! There were 3 vegetable sides on the menu today. My husband and I had 2 of them (seasonal vegetables and the asparagus) and they were fabulous. Which reinforces my theory of "great vegetables = great food." Salads were so tasty and healthy. Our entrees were both pasta dishes, but the volume of pasta wasn't overwhelming. My shellfish and sauce was served over linguini. The sauce was amazing and there was a lot of shellfish in proportion to the pasta. And by the way, apparently everything is made in house--bread, pasta, dessert--everything.
The manager is always so warm and friendly, and the wait staff are amazing--fast, friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu.
It's possible to sit outside, but because of rain in forecast this evening, no one sat outside.
The restaurant was noisy tonight because a large group was there, celebrating some happy occasion.
I highly recommend this restaurant!
This is a difficult review for me. By far this is my favorite restaurant that I have found in the past few years. The food is simply amazing and the staff is great. The latest visit however was disappointing as the space inside is small and we were given a table effectively in the middle of the room where the only walkway through the restaurant is located. As such, we had folks from another table all but in our laps and when they would lean back, in our food. Anyone on the way to the toilet would also bump into our table. The worst part actually was how incredibly noisy it was in the restaurant. My wife and I could not hear each other from across our small table. Notwithstanding those issues, I will absolutely return to the restaurant as it is a wonderful generally.
Not exactly sure what category this restaurant popped up under (I was looking for new options) but I'm SO glad it did! From the moment Luca greeted us until the moment he bid us farewell, the entire evening and meal was magical. I'm in love!
We had the special brussel sprout appetizer, the special risotto and the gnocchi with smoked mozzarella (AMAZING!). Absolutely delizioso!
Can't wait to go back!
Found out about Nando through firstbites event, really liked they're desert and food menu looked amazing so months later finally tried it out. Exceeded my expectations, food was probabaly some of the best italian ive tried, overall satisfied, could be room for improvemnt in there drinks but nonetheless good, will be coming back soon
I have been going to Nando Milano pretty much since they have opened. Chef Alessio's recipes have become more creative too! Now with their popularity, comes some pretty hefty price increases of their menu items. Their homemade pasta is delicious, but $19.00 for pasta with shrimp and only two shrimp in the dish, is ridiculous, even if the shrimp are a decent size. The branzino was very flavorful. My friend and I both ordered that. He wanted to substitute the potatoes for vegetable. They brought out a tasty dish of a couple of asparagus, zucchini and yellow squash. When we got the bill, they charged us $7 for the substitution. When we brought it to the manager's attention, he did remove it from the check. The majority of their entrée prices have jumped to the $24-35 level. While I love the "eating in your friend's home" feel, the prices no longer make it a place to dine regularly. I will have to save up and eat here more for a special occasion. Since they have an AWESOME and large outdoor dining area, I will wait to go back when I can sit outside.
Nando Milano was absolutely fantastic. It was small in location which contributed to the noise level but I didn't feel claustrophobic or feel that others were listening to our conversations. The food was absolutely amazing. Salad was simple but thought out, the squid ink ravioli was fantastic but the true winner was the lamb shank over risotto. The meat was cooked so perfectly if fell off the bone and didn't need a knife to get through. The staff was absolutely amazing. They walked us through the menu, suggested wines for what we were ordering and absolutely contributed to a great experience. Well done and look forward to making my way back soon!
We went here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The staff were friendly, and made recommendations on the menu selections. They offered to make my daughter a non alcoholic drink to celebrate since she just turned 17. It wasn't on the menu, but they asked her preference of fruit and made it. The food tasted fresh, and all of our choices were excellent. They were normal proportion sizes. So, we didn't have leftovers. The desserts were delicious as well. We will definitely go back. It's small, so make your reservations. We went on a Monday night and didn't worry about the crowds.
