Nancettas is now hosting a full bar, wine included.
We were a little bit nervous when we pulled in the parking lot. There was only one car there, which turned out to be the owners. We walked in and there was not a single person there. That usually tells me that the food or service is bad, but boy were we surprised! The three dishes that we had were wonderful. The appetizer in the bread too. They were also willing to make something if it wasn’t on the menu. Three people eventually walked in, but it didn’t matter. We will be back
The food was excellent and the service great
Service was slow and understaffed apparently.
Food was luke warm not hot.
We were there 3+ hours for dinner, which is extremely too long. I know its made to order, but the prep work needs to be done in advance of customers dining.
I won't be back!
My wife and I had this restaurant on our radar for a year now and I agree with most of the reviews that though the food and service was very good, the portions were on the lighter side and a bit expensive compared to other similar restaurants we’ve dined. I understand the Italian way of slow dining where the ensalata to dessert are to be savored but for a total of 8 people dining-total, we did find it a bit slow.
Food was very good. The service was terrible. The people were very nice but it took forever to get anything. It was one server and the owner. There were six table and it took about 2 & 1/2 hours for dinner. A lot of the time nothing in front of you.
Stumbled across Nancetta's last week and we will definitely keep going back. Food was unbelievable, authentic Italian. The menu is unique and there is something for those who want traditional, more basic food (like chicken parm) as well as those wanting something more unique, like the pear ravioli. Really delicious, including the fluffiest gnocchi we've ever had. Do NOT miss the tiramisu! With regards to other reviews indicating service was slow, we got there late and there was only one other table so we definitely had very hands-on, quick service.
Our server was fine but the kitchen was very slow. 7:00 reservation and we finished desert at 10:00
Food was good, but the pasta was undercooked. Nice atmosphere, but the service was extremely slow.
If you enjoy a night out with excellent food and a quiet romantic atmosphere, this is the place. You do, however, need to know you will definitely NOT be rushed through your meal. We waited about an hour for appetizers to start but once the food started, it was delivered in a good time frame allowing us to slowly enjoy the evening.
Excellent food and atmosphere. The wines are drastically overpriced
I agree with others’ feedback regarding Nancetta’s. The food was delicious, but you definitely need to go in knowing you will be there a while. Based on the reviews I read, we expected this. My husband and I enjoyed the fact that there was some time between appetizer, salad, and the main dish arriving. It allowed us time to digest. The restaurant was not at all crowded when we were there Friday night-2 additional parties and a couple at the bar. We were there for almost 2 hours. We will definitely go back!
A hidden gem that needs to be discovered! Food is as fresh and tasty as it gets! Homemade pasta and sauces, homemade bread and really tasty thin crust pizza! Gnocchi melts in the mouth and the Alfredo is rich and creamy! Off the beaten track but worth finding! Definitely will return! Paul and Nancy (Nancetta) are very nice and proud of their food! And they should be!
We ate at Nancettas on a Tuesday evening. We sat on the patio and it was so nice and private (due to sheltering of flowering bushes) that it was not obvious that we were pretty close to busy Freeport Rd. Everything on the menu seems to be homemade, and it was hard to choose what to get. I had the Spaghetti Bolognese and my friends had the gnocchi and a chicken dish. We all really enjoyed our dinners, and especially loved the wonderful desserts.
I would definitely return again to this hidden jewel.
Excellent food but the wait was beyond long!!!
Great place and even better food. A hidden gem for sure! Give it a try!
I will never go back. We had a reservation, arrived on time and were seated relatively promptly although much too close to the next table. It went downhill from there. There were a total of 14 diners in the dining room (largest party was 4, rest were parties of 2), all of whom came in at a different time. Nevertheless, it took 2.5 hours for dinner, not just for the two of us, but for everyone else, too. No one could get served. The kitchen was not putting out appetizers, salads or entrees. Everyone was complaining. The waitress disappeared and would not come into the dining area, so empty glasses, plates, etc. were not removed, water was not refilled. Then to top it all off, when the food finally came, it was only so-so, and extremely expensive. Save yourself a lot of aggravation, time and money and do not go there.
Food and service are consistently wonderful. Owners are welcoming and hands on. Diners should not expect to get in and out quickly. Everything is made fresh to order. Sit back and enjoy the experience.
My colleague and I enjoyed an outstanding meal at Nancetta's! Staying in the Fox Chapel area after a long day of business meetings, we found a dining environment that was both cozy and elegant, with a fresh, contemporary flair. We began with wine and a shared mushroom pizza, with the lightest, crispiest crust imaginable! For our entrees, we chose a rich gnocci with scrumptious Pesto & Parmesan sauce, and a delectable homemade spaghetti Bolognese. Every dish (including the bread and dipping oil!) was thoroughly satisfying, without leaving us with that feeling of "overdoing it" that often accompanies an Italian meal! We'll be back for sure!
Had the homemade pasta bolognese-really outstanding and not like anything else you’ll get at other restaurants.
This was our 2nd time dining at Nancetta's, returning after a lovely first experience. We had reservations, so we were seated quickly and drinks were served shortly after. Appetizers were ordered and also served in an average time frame. Now, here is where it got a bit tricky: As a general preference while dining, we like to enjoy our appetizers prior to placing our entree orders. This allows us to really savor each course without the "awkward shuffling of plates" that can happen when entrees arrive while appetizers are still being enjoyed. So, we waited a bit to place our main course orders, in which time a few more tables filled up in the dining room. We understand that Nancetta's makes each entree to order. Its part of what makes the food delicious and why we came back. We also understand that the busier the dining room, the busier the kitchen. So waiting to order warranted a delay in receiving our meals. That's to be expected...to a point. But it took over an hour and a half for 4 of us to receive our meals from the time we ordered. With a 6pm reservation (and a little lolly-gagging with our apps), it was close to 9PM before we were able to enjoy our meals. In the meantime, there was only 1 active server/bartender visibly present in the dining room. Occasionally we would see one of the owner's delivering food, but many times during the evening our entire table was out of water and/or wine and no server in sight. We had to ask for refills (when we could find the server). If the libations (or bread...or water) are flowing, one typically doesn't notice the longer than normal wait for food. But we definitely noticed being parched and hungry. All-in-all, it was a very average experience. We're not sure what was happening (ie. was there an issue with under-staffing that particular evening) but something was off. I'm sure we'll give Nancetta's another go in the future but it may be some time before we return.
Our server was personable and knowledgeable. There were only two servers for the entire restaurant (which I understand is the norm) which makes service very slow. The servers seem to also work the bar. The food is excellent if you don't mind the long wait.
Waited almost 2 hours for our entrees. There were only 6 tables so I don’t know what the holdup was. Wife’s expensive steak came out raw. Send it back and it came out with a disgusting burnt flavor. We went here years ago and loved it so it looks like things have changed for the worse. Won’t be returning.
I made a reservation for 7:15pm, we arrived early and were sat immediately. Great start to the night. It took awhile to get drink orders but the server really tried hard to find me the right wine. That's the last good thing that happened. It took forever to give our dinner orders. There was 1 server and 1 bartender but they had 2 tables each. Then we got our salads about an hour into it and dinner 2 hours after walking into the building. I had to ask where the food was and she was shocked. When I went to ask her I found her making the salads without gloves and eating while she made them. There are other things that left a bad taste in my mouth but all I need to say is that if you want a 4 hour leisurely dinner then this is the place but don't expect to be serviced or have food in front of you.
We have gone to Nancetta's in the past and have been quite pleased with our experience. However, this time was not good. Our server had too many tables to tend to and they ran out of several items on the menu, one being spaghetti at an Italian restaurant. If I based my review simply on this last visit, it would not receive a good rating.
I booked a reservation last minute for New Years Eve dinner with my parents and brother. Food was excellent, all homemade pasta and home made. There was a special menu for New Years Eve so I would like to go back and try their regular menu. It was kind of pricey, but for the homemade quality it was worth it for the special occasion. The food does take a while to make as mentioned in other reviews, since they make everything fresh, but they warn you about that when you sit down. If you have the time for a special occasion or date night it is worth it. Overall, I got to enjoy a couple glasses of wine and conversation while we waited for our dinner, and it was a perfect meal for NYE.
Wonderful dining experience in a gorgeous setting. The food is phenomenally good.
There was one waitress in the whole place and someone who just poured water and occasionally removed dirty dishes. There were only three other tables when we arrived, yet, it took forever for the waitress to take our order, to get our salads and then to get our food. I wonder if they were short on staff that particular night or if it's like that all the time. Food was very good but probably wouldn't go back because of the service.
We returned to Nancetta's for another birthday celebration. It was an unusually warm October evening so we dined out on the patio. We enjoyed wine and apps under large umbrellas lit with accent string lights and tabletop lanterns. The wine list includes interesting and well priced wines. We started with delicious Beans and greens and grilled Spanish octopus along with warm bread with dipping oil and balsamic vinegar. Entrees of chicken Romano (phenomenal) and pasta Bolognese with house made pasta were equally delicious. Service was a little slow but we were not in a hurry. If you are in a hurry go to Olive Garden. If you want authentic Italian food go to Nancetta's.
The service was absolutely terrible. We waited almost 2 hours for our entrees. We were told our food would be out momentarily after waiting an hour and then 20 minutes later were told it was being plated. Finally it arrived 15 minutes after that. We were given a $20 gift certificate. However, I doubt I will ever go back!
Fantastic food. Pasta homemade, quiet. Not the perfect location but way offsetted by food and Wine quality.
On my birthday, I requested to dine at Nancetta's. You sense the warm and inviting atmosphere once you step inside. The decor of stonework, including a rough cut stone bar, and copper table tops are impressive. My boyfriend and I would have preferred to dine on the outdoor patio, but the weather was unpredictable that evening. While enjoying a glass of wine to the relaxing music and soft glowing light, the Owner, Paul, brought to our table a beautiful presentation of sashimi tuna and fresh figs on a footed marble plate. It was very good. We ordered two appetizers equally delicious: seared scallops with light basil cream sauce and grilled Spanish octopus. The menu lists creative Italian fare and the wine list includes interesting selections at reasonable prices. We asked Paul for recommendations and both dishes were outstanding! The first dish was light and satisfying. Fresh eggplant, mushrooms, and vegetables were tossed with homemade pasta, cooked al dente, in a perfectly spiced roasted tomato sauce and topped with tender grilled chicken. The second dish featured an unexpected spinalis ribeye. Mouth watering tender flavorful beef over creamy risotto and a side of baby Bok Choy blew us away! My birthday finale of Nancy's homemade chocolate lava cake was beyond compare. The service was attentive but we felt a little rushed to order at first. We asked to slow the pace and our server graciously complied. The premium beef dish came with a premium price but the chicken pasta dish was priced appropriately. I had a wonderful birthday and we will definitely return.
Amazing restaurant! Food, atmosphere and service were superb. Authentic Italian cuisine. Really a hidden treasure. Can't believe we only now discovered it. Will definitely be dining at Nancetta's again.
Delicious fresh authentic.. take time to enjoy. Spices and tastes were awesome
There is nothing good I could say about the lunch my group had this past Tuesday . The food portions were very small and not so very good two of our party ordered fish and both had bones in the serving
Interesting we go to multiple restaurants and believe what we received in size and quality we were overcharged & decided we will never Ever go back to the restaurant.
Nanchetta's has become our 'Friday night date' restaurant. Within walking distance we always find the dinners to b fresh, light and prepared to perfection.
The owners always make a point to stop by the tables and chat with customers creating a relaxed homey atmosphere. I've read other reviews claiming the wait for meals is too long. Perhaps those guests are used to FAST food establishments. We both cook so we appreciate the time it takes to prepare fresh food it's worth the wait-have another glass of wine 🍷
Had a small issue over the menu choice. Staff and owner were confrontational about it. I dine out often and was shocked at their handling of a minor situation. Will not go back
We came to Nancetta's for Mother's Day brunch. It took over an hour for our food to be served and then our meals were not served at the same time. The waitress seemed confused about our order. My mother's food was not served as described on the menu. This was corrected by the owner. Two groups of people sitting close to us chose to leave since it was taking so long for their meals to arrive. The food was very good once it did arrive. When our check was presented, it had to be sent back for correction. I really could not understand the delay or the confusion on the part of the waitress since they were not busy at all. Although the food was good, we won't be returning. It's not worth the frustration.
The restaurant is not easy to find unless you know old Freeport Rd. It was a pleasant surprise. Food was good to very good and the pasta is homemade. I would try it again.
My family and I came here for Easter dinner, and it was nothing short of amazing! Being from a large Italian family, we tend to be on the pickier side when it comes to Italian cuisine, and many places fall short. However, Nancetta's exceeded all expectations. It is truly a hidden gem. Dawn was such an incredibly attentive and knowledgeable server, and the owner was so friendly and accommodating. With their recommendations, we tasted our way through nearly half of the menu, and nothing disappointed. Nancetta's quickly became a favorite, and my family and I are already looking forward to the next visit.
Nancetta's is a very good neighborhood restaurant in Fox Chapel . We had dinner with another couple; all four of us enjoyed our meals . The beet salad , eggplant parmigiana and the salsiccia pasta dish were all great. There was a nice selection of fish dishes too , which two of our party enjoyed .
Nancy and Paul , the owners , have worked hard to make their restaurant a success . Nancy is very good with the customers . Paul manages the kitchen well ; he whipped up a great traditional antipasto for us . The dining room is nicely done . Waitresses are ok . We brought our own wine , and the bill was very reasonable .
