Nana's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Nana's is an all-time favorite of ours, been coming here for several years when we lived out of town. Now that we've moved to Durham, it was the first place we had dinner after the moving truck left our house and is a go-to for a nice meal for the two of us, to celebrate with friends and where we introduce our family to Durham when visiting.
The food was excellent, but high priced. The ratio between quality and cost was therefore not favorable. The restaurant is small enough that it went from intimate to crowded. Parking was either valet or in a distant parking lot or on an adjacent side street (which is the best option. The limited menu was not a problem, because what they had was off the charts good.
My husband and I drove from Greensboro to meet my parents at Nana's for my 50th birthday. The entire experience was fabulous. The food was delicious and one of the best meals I have had in a while. Portion sizes were very generous for a fine dining restaurant which makes it a much better value even than most other fine dining establishments. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the various dishes and wine selection. I have already told several of my foodie friends that Nana's is worth the hour drive from Greensboro! The risotto first course is amazing and more than enough to share for a table of 4. Between the table we had the halibut, Wahoo, Chicken and Venison Loin and they were all exceptional. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants great service and delicious food.
Nana's is a landmark and is excellent. I've dined there many times and each time has been superb. The menu selections change often, but there are the staples that are customer favorites for years. The wine list is good, many wines you don't often see at other places. Our waiter was fantastic! The place gets very crowded, so reservations are a must. Parking is also very tight, so valet or try to find a spot on the adjacent side street. Always looking for a reason to get back to Nana's!
I had heard about Nana's but never planned ahead with a reservation. But since we were celebrating my birthday I finally planned ahead. I was not disappointed. When we arrived we were seated immediately and the service was spot on. Our dishes were absolutely delicious. The worse part was deciding what to order. My only slight disappointment was the desserts. Not bad just ordinary. However overall a wonderful experience especially for a special occasion.
Loved Nanas for our Anniversary dinner. The food was absolutely delicious with a lovely presentation. Our waiter was very attentive. Small and cozy , but if they could improve on one thing, I would suggest a few more intimate tables. Felt a little crowded in.
I don't know why it's taken so long to eat at Nana's. I can see why it's been around for a long time. Great cocktail to kick off the meal, with generous portions for appetizers, entrée and desserts. Interior could use a facelift but you can overlook that with the great food and super attentive waitstaff.
I had my birthday dinner there to be followed by a show at DPAC. Unfortunately, I got very ill 30 minutes into the DPAC show and had to go quickly home where I was very sick for the next 8 hours. I have to attribute the sudden illness to my dinner at Nana’s, probably the shrimp in my appetizer. What a birthday present!
Great appetizer ( Oysters Calabash) and dessert (Cherry Cobbler with Sea Salt Caramel Ice cream). Lots of flavors that paired well with each other- well constructed. The main courses (Duck and Venison) were good but not as flavorful as we have had in the past. Great service as usual. The cocktails were awesome too (University Manhattan-wow what a great sipper).
Nana's never fails to impress. All dishes were superb - just right, never over the top or too fussy. We appreciate a great wine list and this is one of the best in the Triangle area. The reserve list has some gems and good values for the rarity/quality of the wines.
This is our second trip to this highly rated restaurant. The first visit was some two years ago and we couldn't remember why we didn't return sooner. One look at the menu reminded us quickly. Very limited menu but what doesn't work for us are some of the ingredients that the chef seems to love. Seems like every entree has duck fat, bacon or cream. Why would a chef use bacon and duck fat on grilled swordfish? I struggled to find an entree with the least unwanted ingredients. Service was great. Excellent wine list with very fair prices. Even the bread was good. Seems like the chef would produce at least a few dishes that everyone would be happy to order--then he could play games with the rest of the menu.
