Had to wait 50 minutes after reservation time for a table, then terrible service- the only time that we have ever had a bad experience there so not sure what has changed. For the prices of the food, which is usually exceptional, you expect excellent meals and good service. Place was noisy and packed too!

I have been going to the southside Nakama for over 10 years and my last experience, the problem wasn't the food or the servers. The new management/owner under this lady named Sun is so rude and ignorant . She's very unprofessional. We expressed our concerns to her that we had about the sitting arrangement when we came to the restaurant and she had an attitude and just didn't care. I will not be spending anymore of my coins at the Southside nakama location going forward. I'm going to go to the restaurant in Wexford going forward because she will never get any more money from me.

When we arrived there was only two other people dining in the hibachi area. Our waitress Amber forgot two orders and when the cook needed something he couldn’t find her. The restaurant was nearly vacant while our food was be prepared and our waitress never checked with us to refill drinks or see if we needed anything. When it was time to pay it took her 15 minutes to process a credit card payment because she said she “couldn’t find the cashier” 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 these are just a few of my experiences during this visit. The food is typically good but everything was rushed because it was forgotten about , very disappointing

As always the hibachi was amazing, but the service definitely left something to be desired. Our server was sweet, but our reservation was at 7:30 and we didn't get our drinks until 8:15 and our soup and salad (which came at the same time) didn't come until 8:30. I don't think this was our server's fault... they just seemed short staffed/unorganized. When I asked for a second glass of wine (after my first glass was completely empty) they brought me a half glass of wine. I sent it back and asked for a full glass. I'm pretty much NEVER "that girl"... I understand that some restaurants give larger pours than others, but this was ridiculous. If I'm paying $12 for a glass of wine I'm not getting jipped. Once things finally got started the food was great, but it completely threw our schedule off and put a wrench in the rest of the night.

The experience was fine. Nothing special even though I said It was my daughters 13th bday on the reservation & the server acknowledged that it was her bday. They didn’t do anything to celebrate the bday. The chef was ok, did not overly engage or put on a show or acknowledge the birthday. Overall, nothing special for a birthday which was a bummer for my family.

Once seated at the hibachi table, nobody came by to take a drink order for easily 15-20 minutes. We could have been on our third libation, without even drinking quickly, had a drink order been taken sooner. Once the service began, it was okay along the way.

Very accommodating! We originally made reservations for 9 people and were able to add 2 more at last minute without any problems. Food was amazing and staff very friendly.

This was about our 6th time at Nakama in about 10 years and was the worst of the 6 for the following reasons:

1) The waitress kept mixing up people's orders and getting confused.
2) One member of our party was seated in an awkward position in between grills. This person had a poor social experience, with a cart blocking his view much of the time.
3) The chef made mistakes - forgot to bring enough food for certain people, gave too much to some people so almost nothing was left for others.
4) The chef did not put any effort into the entertainment aspect of the cooking - no big flame, not much spectacle with the utensils, etc.
5) The waitress rarely came back to give drink refills.
6) The chefs for both back-to-back grills came at almost the same time. So it was noisy and conversation was impossible.
7) Other patrons who were seated later at other tables were served before our table.

I do not plan to go back.

This is one the best restauranst in Pittsburgh. The steak is awesome as is the shrimp. Incredilabe.... highly recommended

My family and i went here Saturday for my sons birthday before the Kid Rock concert. All 4 of us had stomach issues after this meal and during the concert. Ive had several meals at this restaurant and have never had this negative experience. i almost called the restaurant to complain to management but thats not typically my style.

While we enjoyed the food and ambiance our waitress was scatter brained. She forgot my rice for my meal. And I ordered a mandarin vodka and tonic beverage and she gave me straight vodka. While others may have enjoyed that error it was difficult to drink! She really didn't pay much attention to us after she took or order either.

Misrepresented menu charged soft shell crab price for it’s imitation imposture- menu item (Sushi/Spider Roll) states soft shell crab, avocado and cucumber but actually it made with imitation crab and tempura fried soft shelled crab on each end - horribly disappointing, fraudulent and totally dishonest.

This place is over priced, there was an up charge for fried rice vs steamed rice. Our cook did not entertain us, he made the volcano with the onion. That was it. It was my sons 16th birthday. I paid $5 extra for a sparkling candle. The green tea was not good either. My chicken breast was over cooked, it was dry.

Nakama is one of our favorites. We dine there 4-6 times a year as the food, service and experience has always been consistently excellent. And when you sign up for their rewards program, you get a free dinner on your birthday and/or anniversary.

Food was excellent as was the service! I love Nakama. I had been before but my boyfriend had never experienced hibachi so we went for our first anniversary. We loved it and are looking forward to anything trip back soon with a group of our friends. Fun, delicious, and something different.

Food was great. However our grill did not seem to be working properly. The chef has to wait ten mins before he could start cooking because it wasn’t hot enough. When he did cook by the time the meat was done the vegetables were cold. I’ve had this chef before and definitely not normal for this place. Overall between the server being busy and the grill being slow our dinner took almost 3 hours. Other than the long waits and the first food out being a little cold by the time the rest was done everything was good. Food was still delicious and definitely was not the chefs fault.

So crowded! The waiting area was packed BUT they did take us on time for our reservation. Meal and drinks were excellent! Celebrated a birthday-would definitely recommend. Our chef did not speak to us while preparing dinner but some of the other chefs at other tables did; we really didn't mind as the restaurant was packed and the noise level was moderate. Will go back.

Had the miso soup, was not the greatest but decent. Edamame was good and a good size portion. Ordered 3 types of rolls and all of them were very good and large sizes. Overall a good experience! Would eat here again!

This was one of the three worst experiences I have had at any restaurant in the last 10 years. Unfortunately, two of the three were at Nakama. I can't begin to express my disappointment given the cost of a dinner like this. Although this was not a special occasion, it was a rare time that we could get out for a "nice" dinner and we were very much looking forward to it. The wait staff never stopped to see if everything was ok or if anything else was needed. At one point we had requested a glass of ice and after 10 minute, stopped another employee who returned with it within two. minutes. The chef had already begun cooking prior to the appetizer being delivered. The soup and salad were delivered at the same time instead of the soup first, which had never occurred at any of the other Japanese steakhouse restaurants we had been to (including past dinners at Nakama) except one other time. Perhaps you can guess where that occurred. I understand if the restaurant is busy that service can suffer, however, as we watched our server walk passed several times, she never once even looked at our table. In other words, not only did she not check on us and ask if things were ok, she did not even acknowledge our table. Then didn't get the pint of sauce we asked for to take with us, and when we asked bout it, turned her head and rolled her eyes. Not going back even though in the past we had been there dozens of times and took all of our friends and family from out of town. After two times I will not waste my money on such poor experiences. The food is good but the frustration of the entirety of the evening is not worth it.

I put in to have reservations a month before valentines day. I had really horrible seats with my husband, no room to move, and the portion was considerably smaller. For a $35 dollar plate/ per person he shouldn't have left hungry. It wasn't nearly the same experience we had a year ago.

OMG YUM
Was 13 minutes late for reservation. Their response- “no problem.” Waitress immediately took drink orders. Salad and soup did come out while still eating appetizers. But finished before chef started cooking. I had seafood trio and it was to die for deliciousness. Ahi tuna and scallops were cooked perfect. Waitresses stand off to side so all you have to do is look over and they come see what you need. Now this was a Thursday night and it was 65% full in bar with 3 hibachi tables going. I’m sure the weekends are way busier. Not only would I go again, I can’t wait to go again!

I was extremely disappointed in the way that it was understaffed and people were stuffed into tables. Looks like company greed to me. Wait staff and cooks were great but obviously stretched too far. Dinner took incredibly too long and we missed half of our show after. The food was wonderful. Waiter was great and accommodating. Cook was entertaining and talented. If only there was adequate staff this review would have been different and I would be a common return customer.

I was very disappointed. I have been to many hibachi places, but this was not one I would recommend going to. The chef was not entertaining at all, he just cooked our food. The food was not good at all, but our waitress was nice.

My experiences here have been hit or miss. This trip was not the greatest. I have a feeling they don't have their best people in on Mondays. The waitress seemed to want to hurry everyone to order. We had to ask for a dish and soy sauce for our sushi, which isn't a big deal but I just feel like the devil is in the details. There were only four people total at our table and the hibachi chef did not find us worthy of putting on a show. I was the only woman, and the only one at the table who did not order seafood. The chef prepared all the seafood and then cooked my meat. So I waited longer than anyone for my main dish. The grill is huge so I don't understand while when you're only cooking for 4 why you can't fit my food on. He could have asked if I had a seafood allergy if that was the concern. Plus, why not cook the lady's food first? Not to seem old fashioned but it did seem strange.

I thought that the food was good except that the steak had too much gristle - also the sushi came out with the app -which was okay, but almost immediately following was the soup, salad and the chef showed up to cook our meal. We really did get time to savor and enjoy the good food.

Also, sushi could use some improvement, falling apart and tuna and salmon cut too thick
