Nabuki Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food across the board. Was there twice this week because Valentine's Day. Both times the meal was great. Godzilla Roll and Tempura dishes are fantastic. Dont do a lot of raw but seemed like everyone around us were enjoying their plates.
They get busy so it seems it might be hard to hear if you are in a bigger group and you are in the main seating area.
It was valentines day so silly me for thinking we could have a nice night out with quality food and good service.(we sat there for 30mins for our drinks and 45mins for our first app) We received neither and with a hefty bill. The waiter was very nice, but slow and the food was average at best. Mr Manager with the pink button down shirt - help your team out instead of walking around observing them all struggle to keep up. Next year - a steak house or heart shaped pizza for my valentine.
We were seated in the newer back room at a high top by bar. Although much quieter, it was cold and not as nice as sitting in the main room. The sushi was just as good. I’d prefer not sitting back there again unless I’m with a large group in the front new area.
Went here the first time for my birthday based on pretty good reviews here and elsewhere. Got a perfectly terrible table next to the hostess stand & door which opened and closed 100 times letting the frigid air wash through the restaurant. To be fair though we watched another group switch tables 2X so ours was not the only bad table - just the worst. Probably 25-30% of the restaurant and bar would be considered fair to bad by that measure. Service was utilitarian. Prompt and certainly competent but kind of disinterested at the same time. Ask if there are specials and or specialties as they are not offered and you may get a mechanical description. We asked that the hot entrees come last and were told probably not since the sushi bar is busy and usually falls behind - kind of surprising for a sushi restaurant but turned out to be correct. Food was generally pretty good but nothing was outstanding. Despite its mediocrity on that night, probably still one of the better sushi places we have found in the suburbs from an actual sushi quality perspective. I would suggest refusing any table near the door, which I noticed several other groups do, try going later (place was pretty well cleared out by 9:00), or sit at the bar or sushi bar.
I don’t know if it was because it was New Years Eve and they were making several platters for parties, but the time in receiving your food was long! The Sashimi slices were too big. The amount of fish was ok but hey should cut it so you can eat it in one bite.
Went for early seating on New Year’s with my wife and my one year old. We ordered right away (2 apps and 2 rolls). 1st app of pork dumplings way very good. 2nd app of pork scewers was glorified meatballs, just okay. Then we waiting 40 minutes (after finishing our apps) to get our 2 rolls! Waiter apologized only after we asked what was going on 30 minutes in). Explained that they got hit a lot of big with to-go orders. First off, we ordered 2 rolls, that should take all of 3 minutes to make. Second, why would you put seated guests behind a to-go order when we ordered before them! We’ll probably go back (when it’s not a holiday), but was disappointed because of the long wait for food (thank god our 1 year old was being so good the whole time, or this could be a worse review).
There were so many kids there- it was very unexpected for New Years. Nearly every table around us had children- not a place for a date without children on New Year’s Eve at all! Oh well. The food was still good, although we had to hear a dad yell at his kid for not knowing how to lace her shoes correctly and zipper her jacket, it was ok. Next time we will find a more date appropriate place, or sit in the bar area, which seemed for appropriate for us, but we didn’t know this beforehand.
We live nearby and what a treat to walk in town and have this fun atmosphere where they are enthusiastic with helping you enjoy your experience. Attention with getting you the right drink and trying something new both with food and drink. We try different things and they are all good and fresh. Yum!
It didn't start great. Was seated at the worse table there. It usually would not matter but it was our anniversary. They moved us to the sushi bar which was ok, better than the corner with no light. Our first waitress was less than friendly but our second server was the best. She was attentive, suggested what to get and made the evening turn out great. The sushi was not bad but definitely had better. For the price, we expected more. We realized that not all fish are equal. Would we go there again, perhaps. Not our first choice but at least we know if we went back what we would order. Overall experience, 3 out of 5.
This sushi place came highly recommeded by the locals. I live in San Francisco and I traveled to Asia for business for many years. I was expecting average sushi. Nabuki's sushi was OUTSTANDING! I highly recommend it. And the town of Hinsdale was adorable. I had never been.
Our food came out almost an hour after we ordered. We were told the kitchen was backed up. Waiter comped one drink when the entire party should have been comped one drink or at least dessert. We know it was not the waiters fault but know that getting our food almost an hour after we ordered is unacceptable. The pork dumplings were cold as well.
I wanted to like this place because I heard good things. However we felt a little awkward at times. Upon departing we saw the sushi chef yelling at the hostess with one of the servers getting involved. Management never seemed to be anywhere, and if he was he was at the bar chatting it up. Made an online reservation and they seated us at the high tops within the bar that are less than 2 inches from each other. If I wanted a bar table I would have asked or noted it. Moved to regular table which was nice accommodation on the hostesses' part, so thank you! The table we moved to was defective and wobbled, asked to get some napkins to stabilize, where they just moved us and then seated it with another group not even attempting to fix it. Scallops -- mediocre. No sauce to enhance the dish. Sushi was excellent, and our server was knowledgeable and very kind. Would like to note the bartenders as they were great, too!
Nicest food in Hinsdale (it's a low bar) but a message to the staff - please back off the table! People are buzzing around all the time. Plates can be collected when everything is finished. Water doesn't have to be topped up every time a mouthful is consumed. Give us some space!
