Open since 1987, Mye Japanese Restaurant’s Church Street location serves a little of Japan in the heart of Oakville. Executive Chef Motoaki Aoki, who was born and raised in Tokyo, brings a passion for both sophisticated and homegrown flavors and a dedication to the fine art of cuisine to Mye.
Choose from a numerous of special Japanese appetizers like yudofu (fresh tofu and vegetables served with citrus ponzu sauce) or yakitori (skewered teriyaki chicken served with green onions). Guests can also choose from a variety of dinner specials like its yakiniku dinner (Angus ribeye sliced and charbroiled with the restaurant’s special sauce) or sashimi dinner with approximately eighteen pieces of fresh fish. There is also a tasting menu with seven courses. Mye’s menu changes according to availability of ingredients. Advance reservations and catering services are available. Gluten free options upon request.
The food was amazingly fresh, the perfect size of rolls and the service was very restrained and effortless as I would expect a Japanese restaurant would be. We sat at the bar and enjoyed each other's company as well as observe the chefs prepare the plates. My average rating for ambience was because of the obnoxious clients who sat next to us and was the antithesis of what should have been and they seemed to know the owner and the staff who danced around them; they were just so condescending and very personal that it was a turn off. I only mention it because this is where the restaurant disappointed me in not putting up a professional line.
Serene environment and simple dishes wonderfully prepared. Friendly service but servers not very knowledgeable about allergic concerns such as msg and sulphites.
Seems to have fallen from where they once were. Poor fish quality. Definitely slow and inattentive service. We will not be returning unfortunately.
Mye Restaurant has been a great and authentic Japanese restaurant to us the last 15 years. We always enjoys the food without failing. We will continue to come and celebrate our anniversary and Valentine's day at Mye.
Great sushi, pleasant staff. Will return.
The food was really good, the service could have been better though..
We choose Mye for our celebrations. We are seniors and therefore like to go out at lunch time instead of dinner time to celebrate. Mye is a quiet, good food place.
We always feel as though we have had a special time and meal after we go.
The sushi is always fresh and is the best!
Mye never fails to provide top notch food and service. We celebrate my wife's birthday every year, for the past five years. The 7 course tasting menu gives a full range of flavours. And we still go for lunch from time to time
The day we visited was my wife's birthday and she was very surprised to see her dessert came with a "Happy Birthday" written on her plate. The seven course dinner was well balanced in flavour, mix of choices and presentation. The one most striking thing I noticed was the flavour of sushi rice. It was exceptionally good.
Just an excellent place to be. Very friendly with terrific food and service.
We were regulars dining there twice a month over the last couple of years. The last few months we noticed a drastic drop in the service. But what was most annoying happened New Year's Eve. We asked whether the special Blue Fin Tuna that was available on Dec 23 was still available. The waitress said it was. We ordered 2 orders as we did on Dec 23 but what was served did not have the same colour and shape. We said this was not the same but the waitress insisted it was. It did not have the same taste or texture. But the biggest surprise came with the bill. $56 for this tuna!!!! Usually our entire food bill is less than $80 including on Dec 23. We will now be looking for a new Japanese restaurant to dine at.
Four of us went there for NYE dinner at 6:30pm. We have to wait about 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We were finally seated but were given only one menu. We were told that they ran out of it! Again there was no friendly greeting or briefing on the night's special. Someone dropped by to take our drink order and that was it. After another 15 - 20 minutes, we were asked if we were ready to order. We weren't because we wanted to find out more about the NYE special menu, which was listed separately on a piece of paper. The waitress stared at us as if she didn't understand why we needed to know. So we decided to order from their very limited menu which meant another 20 minutes wait before another waitress came by. The wait for the food was very long. They were good, slightly above average but not memorable. The place was dark, uninviting and stiff.
We tried this restaurant for about 8 - 9 times over all these years. Every time we were unimpressed but always went back because of the good reviews. We felt maybe we had some off nights or something. This visit convinced me that this is as good as it gets. So, no more visit in the future. Our NYE dinner was no fun and we will never visit this place again. We went in with good mood and left with bad mood, tired and unsatisfied.
We all love Japanese food and my husband had actually lived in Japan for 2 months on business visit. We dined out quite a lot so our expectation was not unrealistic, just basic courtesy and respect.
One of the Best sushi restaurants in Oakville. Food and service are consistently great.
The sushi is ALWAYS fabulous. ALWAYS. However. When I pay premium prices for sushi, when I have a limited wine selection (wines that are overpriced...Whitehaven Sauvignon blanc readily available for $18.95 at LCBO but $52 at Mye...One should never pay triple the price except
on consignment wines) and being seated in the highest traffic zone and by the sushi prep area, even though there were more quaint areas available, there's absolutely no reason why this restaurant should remain the 'gem' sushi place of Oakville. There are way too many other BETTER choices now.
The food never fails to feed my sushi cravings. The top spot in town beyond a doubt!
