The outdoor patio is particularly nice with the open fireplace and view of the stars. The food is somewhat mexican inspired without being heavy the way authentic Mexican food often feels.
We had our wedding reception at this hotel and this is where we usually celebrate our wedding anniversary. Service was great as usual. I booked through open table and somehow outside table was reserved for us which is not what I wanted. Luckily they accommodated and got us indoor table so that was good.
Service was great, not so much the food. Duck breast was raw and steak cumin (which I've had before and was delicious prior) tasted like fish.? Restaurant took care of a couple of the dishes as offering to our dissatisfaction. Though disappointed, they did do their best to recover. Ambiance was nice, property is beautiful. Original visit prior was great, so will come again.
We went to check out the "restaurant week" menu. Our main course was good, but the appetizer/salad and dessert were uninspired. I would go back to try some of the items on the regular menu. I liked the outdoor area. It was a little cold in the restaurant and the evening that we chose to go, there was almost no one there, which doesn't help the ambiance. I will give it another chance.
The service wasn't great. We sat for a long time before anyone even came over. The server seemed unfriendly and annoyed to be working throughout our entire meal. The food was great, just disappointing service.
Went here before the Playhouse. We ate inside because weather turned cold. Our loss. Inside atmosphere is a bit sad. Chair upholstery is so old that we literally sunk when we sat down. Walls were dirty. No buzz in the restaurant. BUT, food was still good and wines by the glass delicious. Atmosphere outside is far superior.
Great table right by the outdoor fire, awesome chicken tacos! Lovely venue.
The grounds are beautiful and it is so nice to be outside enjoying the california weather for dinner even if heaters are required. Food was solid, drinks were great which made for a great business evening out.
the food is AMAZING!!!! Everything i ate was so delicious and well prepared! Ive never had scallops cooked to perfection the way they did it and the blueberry muffin with flavored butter was incredible. The ahi tuna on top of a wafer was so unique and great combo for sweet and salty taste! They were very busy when i went so service was very slow and had to remind them to bring our food missing from out order and basic things like water and ice multiple times. Other than that it was a great time and will be back for the delicious food!
Although we'd heard great things about this restaurant, we were extremely disappointed with our visit. The restaurant was fairly empty but we were encouraged to make a reservation before visiting. When we arrived, there was no hostess for several minutes so we couldn't be seated. Once we were seated, we weren't visited by the waitress or given any water for almost 20 minutes. We ordered the chips and guacamole appetizer and the chips were stale. The main course took over an hour to be served and 2 of the dishes were cold. The third dish was a painfully small portion (and highly overpriced). Overall, this restaurant was a letdown. It's a shame because the outdoor patio seating was beautiful. We won't be returning.
We had a very good lunch, good service, and quiet suroundings that are very beautiful.
Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The food was great. However, the hostess was surly and did not look pleased to be there. She greeted us rather grumpily, which left a sour taste in our mouths. The table was also off balance. It kept rocking and made for an uncomfortable evening. Also, my girlfriend's water glass had lipstick all over it that wasn't hers, so we questioned how sanitary everything was. Lastly, the small portion sizes left us rather disappointed as well.
Overall, I would not come back here. There are plenty of other good restaurants in La Jolla and San Diego in general that render coming back here unworthy. I would not recommend this restaurant to others for the reasons mentioned above.
Great place. Went during restaurant week and service was reeeeally slow. Still, servers were great. Food was delicious. And ambiance Is laid back and nice.
They were very busy with a rehearsal dinner or something. Service took awhile and food was undercooked.
First, I love the ambience on the outdoor patio at M&B. It's just a few minutes off I-5 but it's like a quick vacation to a New Mexican hacienda. I had two dinners there in the last week. One before restaurant week and one during. I had tuna tartar and the fish tacos the first time. When I hesitated as to whether I wanted grilled or Baja style, the waitress suggested I could get some of each. Great suggestion and great meal. The restaurant week meal I chose was watermelon and tomato salad, seafood risotto and brownie sundae. It was also very good but portion was sooo small. One of my companions is a large man, I'm sure he went home hungry so not the best value. The atmosphere is the biggest draw for me so I'll be back!
Lovely patio and indoor options. Four of us shared plates and nothing disappointed. We could talk, it still felt lively. We loved the ambience and had a great time.
Lots of atmosphere and ambiance. Nice valet parking, Indoor, outdoor eating Varied menus that would please most with moderate prices. Noise level was a little high, so maybe outside eating better Service was excellent.
From our arrival and greeting at valet parking to the walk thru the beautiful grounds to get to the restaurant, very relaxing wonderful experience with very attentive staff and great tasting dishes.
I am always looking for beautiful scenery, gardens, good value and great ambience and this is the Place, Love it!
I loved the setting of the restaurant and its decor. The food is excellent and very creative. Having lived in Mexico City for 40 years, I think the chef does an amazing job of incorporating the flavors into his cuisine. The cumin crusted steak, the grilled street corn, and the Mexican chocolate s'more were fantastic.
We chose this restaurant to celebrate my sisters work promotion and I wanted to take her somewhere special and very nice. My husband and I had been there before to celebrate an anniversary and it was unbelievably wonderful. Unfortunately the dinner with my sister didn't go so well. We had two waitresses who didn't know who was given our table. They took our order twice and brought us lukewarm food. The appetizers were lovely but they forgot to bring one of the entrees. They apologized plenty but by the time we did get all of the food it just wasn't as spectacular as I had remembered. It was a gorgeous restaurant but I felt it was overpriced and I was bummed at the service we received because I was hoping for it to be such a special evening.
Not as good this time as last time I was there. But bartender Jose and Philippe hold there own!
The setting for this fun little restaurant is gorgeous and it's lots of fun. Food and service are always above average, but never outstanding. We are repeat customers so they should say a lot!
Much prefer eating outside at this restaurant. We like to go before the plays at LA Jolla Playhouse. Service is friendly and prompt. Valet parking is great. The menu is somewhat limited, but if you enjoy stringing several small plates together, very satisfying.
We just drove in from St. Louis and happened to find you. We absolutely loved it and really appreciated the gluten free excellent options!
Expensive and food ordinary
Ravens were entertaining
Poor customer service! I called to confirm my reservations and make changes, but they never answered the phone and when I could finally talk to someone they had to transfer to a different person because they did not have the answer. My colleagues used to love going here after work, but everyone was not impressed.
We had brunch prior to a play at the La Jolla Playhouse. The food and wine were wonderful, as was the service and, as always, the site. Estancia is such a beautiful location.
The waitress did not even know we were seated inside?! After 20 min, my friend went to find someone to help us. Then took a long time for food to come. Food was good!
Perfect spot to have dinner before seeing the play Escape to Margaritaville
