Coffee served in Paper cup!!! WOW
Wonderful to be back and with even better fare. Such a treat. Excellent service. Fine meals. Near crowd.
Always reliable place to have a laugh with family and friends.
Three of the five of us got violently ill within hours of eating at Mustangs and Burros. We think the fruit was tainted as the three of us who are ill ate most of the fruit. No house doctor was on site to help so we had to call an ambulance. We just returned from Scripps and are recovering in our room. Be weary. Needing to stay another day because I am too ill to drive. Absolutely disappointing!
Well, we stayed here last year, while the restaurant was closed due to the pandemic. The staff told us we were missing out on the best food…so, when we came back this year, we definitely decided we were going to try it.
Now, about the actual visit. I was ready to walk out the second we were seated, as I noticed a long hair on the napkin that was wrapped around the utensils.
But, there was 6 of us and a chance of finding a table elsewhere was slim.
Henry, our server was the best part of the experience.
The drinks were watered down, appetizers- the chips and salsa/ guac never arrived at the same time and the main dishes were completely tasteless. However, the bill was huge! Extremely overpriced for the quality of the food and drinks. Spend your money elsewhere…
Food was good ; however dinner menu was very limited. Our reservation was for 4pm and although there were bbq options they stopped serving at 4pm
Not impressed with dinner selections. Food was just ok.
Fabulous food, outstanding service from Ivan, and such a lovely setting!
Fun atmosphere, yummy food -just what we were looking for a quick bite - fire pits and outside dining are the way to go!
Good food, but time to change the menu!
Wonderful Outdoor Patio Dining for Mexican Menu & Drinks.
Decor and ambiance are nice. Food was disappointing - sandwich was soggy; tacos were not as shown in website photo. Expensive for what we had.
Fire the busboy that called in sick Feb 15. Give the waitress and hostess a raise. They worked their butts off to make up for his absence. Musician needs to turn down the volume a bit so people can have conversations. $24 hamburger? Really?
The food was excellent and on time. Great value compared to similar dining on Valentines Day. Would do this again and again!
This place is horrible. Incredibly overpriced for bad food and really bad service. We tried dining on valentines day. They seated us right away and then ignored us. They were not busy. Waiters kept walking by and no one stopped. I had to go in to find someone to take a care of us. The bisque was not good and the chicken was dry. I want my money back. OpenTable should be ashamed of the good reviews on this place and it should be delisted. Stay away!!!
Service is always slow... too slow.
The noise level is too much, inside. Cannot carry a conversation ...without raising your voice.
Not sure what they can do about it.. but EVERYONE complains.
Food and drinks just weren't very flavorful at all.
Excellent Food with a great outdoor patio - Highly recommended!
Normally I really like this restaurant. They once again changed the menu and not for the better! Instead of having two tacos at happy hour one taco that was just mediocre. Ceviche is nothing like the two previous concoctions. Unfortunate
Christmas Eve - was quite and intimate with several couples, then a large group came in and they pulled 4-tables together... and the noise erupted. The setting of the restaurant is for small tables, not large groups. The restaurant was understaffed and the large group dominated the servers.
Waitstaff was very attentive. Atmosphere was festive.
OUr favorite place in La Jolla bar none.
Very pleasant experience.
Great service; good food; very good ambiance; noise was fine
The food was good and service was very good. There was no mention on the website that the full dinner menu was not being served due to kitchen restoration. I felt this was a bit sneaky. I wanted a full meal and had a taco, but at least the taco was tasty!
The ambiance was great, but the food and the service was “meh”. The server kinda slow, but courteous.
I've been curious about this restaurant for quite some time and we just never made it over there until now. The most difficult part is finding the place once you're on the property - it's tucked away in a separate building out behind the main lobby. Quiet and yet a little funky all at the same time. There's a lovely large patio with a giant fireplace that would be fun to sit by and another smaller fireplace inside that we were seated next to. Inside, there are only about 8-10 tables, plus a small bar as well as a fairly large bar height table. We had excellent service and the food was delicious, if a little spicy when it came to the vegetables beneath the scallops (which were perfectly prepared and not a single bit of grit!). The spouse enjoyed his fish, as well, and the 5YO devoured the children's cheeseburger (which was of adult proportions) in about 2 minutes so it must have been good. We got to try the fries and they were nicely crispy outside but mealy inside the way fries should be. We started the meal with the cripsy Brussels sprouts in pomegranate molasses sprinkled with cotija cheese and I could have eaten those as my entire meal. They were delicious and perfectly cooked. We will definitely be back to try some other menu items. A brief stroll around the property after our meal helped settle our very full stomachs. It's a lovely little garden setting.
Food was great and amazing ambiance
Great date spot in the evening, romanticand cozy, happy hour is good as well. Valet parking is complimentary if you dine. Patio has lots of heaters
We very much enjoyed the entire place, the spa treatments were exceptional, the mustangs and Burris menu was by far the worst and least enticing we have ever experienced. The night before we were at something V’s in La Jolla and couldn’t decide among the many enticing options. While at M & B we spent a lot of time figuring out if there was anything we could digest. We finally decided that no entrees sounded digestible so ordered two starters each. My wife ordered the Brussels sprouts and got about 50 of Brussels sprouts that were clearly cooked over and over and as hard as marbles—completely inedible. I struggled to find something that looked ok and finally selected the chili relleno (I love chili relleno). It was also almost totally inedible, with goofy ingredients and a very old chili that was so old that it was almost not “cuttable”.
The menu was the worst we have ever experienced, but the food was by far the worst we have ever experienced.
We have eaten at Mustangs and Burros many times and have returned because we had previous good experiences with both food quality and service. However, The last two times we dined there the service was extremely slow. Service of food extremely slow even though the restaurant was nowhere near capacity. On top of waiting an extended amount of time for our entrees, they arrived cold and had to be sent back. The menu pricing is on the high end for San Diego but without quality and service to back it up, I would not recommend it to others.
We ordered the queso and flautas which were amazing! Our drinks were good but small especially for 16 bucks. Our main course was the filet mignon and we had to send it back because the puree and veggies were cold. After waiting another 20 minutes they arrived exactly the same, cold. Service was just fair, not excellent as we would had expected at a resort of this calliber.
The food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. There's a beautiful patio to sit outside and it's a treat. It's just a bit over-priced and only valet parking so there's a cost to park as well.
This place came recommended to me, and I was expecting a hilltop restaurant overlooking the ocean or sunset views at least. It is not this. The restaurant is located inside a hotel across the street from UCSD. Google Maps had the wrong location, telling me to go onto the UCSD campus to find the restaurant. I tried calling for clarification, only to get a voicemail system. Apple Maps had the restaurant in the middle of a residential neighborhood 11 minutes away (not because of distance, but due to winding roads). I eventually returned to the Pangea parking lot at UCSD and called again. When I spoke to a person, they insisted the address was correct, and it was, and they told me that I must be near.
In short, their marketing team needs to fix the geolocation of their eatery if they want customers to visit.
Once there, the patio experience was nice, the food was tasty but not exceptional for the price. The cocktails were strong, but pricey. Without any sunset or views to speak of, the whole trip to La Jolla from Vista seemed rather a waste of effort.
Wasn’t wow’ed hard to find.... menu is pricey and service wasn’t fantastic... we won’t be returning...
Food was excellent - Wait staff was super nice but we waited an hour and a half for dinner to arrive - were told 3 times in a 35 minute period that our food is coming out. Ridiculous really but food was delicious.
Lovely outdoor patio, wonderful food, great place for an elegant dinner!
I imagine because of the location of the kitchen and the dining room, the meal arrived cold. It took forever for another request to arrive, the server was busy and not attentive to us, the manager never came by our table, although the waiter said she should have. The waiter did comp our meal without us asking. It is a shame, because we used to enjoy going there. Pricing on the menu is very high, and choices are limited.
Worst experience ever. 1-1/2 hours to receive our meals. Food was either raw or over cooked. Server was unattended. 4 of us dining each had issues. After table next to us complained to manager for same reasons we had our turn. Bottom line we paid for the $78 bottle of wine but refused to pay for food as did other table. Manager agreed.
