We ordered the queso and flautas which were amazing! Our drinks were good but small especially for 16 bucks. Our main course was the filet mignon and we had to send it back because the puree and veggies were cold. After waiting another 20 minutes they arrived exactly the same, cold. Service was just fair, not excellent as we would had expected at a resort of this calliber.
The food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful. There's a beautiful patio to sit outside and it's a treat. It's just a bit over-priced and only valet parking so there's a cost to park as well.
This place came recommended to me, and I was expecting a hilltop restaurant overlooking the ocean or sunset views at least. It is not this. The restaurant is located inside a hotel across the street from UCSD. Google Maps had the wrong location, telling me to go onto the UCSD campus to find the restaurant. I tried calling for clarification, only to get a voicemail system. Apple Maps had the restaurant in the middle of a residential neighborhood 11 minutes away (not because of distance, but due to winding roads). I eventually returned to the Pangea parking lot at UCSD and called again. When I spoke to a person, they insisted the address was correct, and it was, and they told me that I must be near.
In short, their marketing team needs to fix the geolocation of their eatery if they want customers to visit.
Once there, the patio experience was nice, the food was tasty but not exceptional for the price. The cocktails were strong, but pricey. Without any sunset or views to speak of, the whole trip to La Jolla from Vista seemed rather a waste of effort.
Wasn’t wow’ed hard to find.... menu is pricey and service wasn’t fantastic... we won’t be returning...
Food was excellent - Wait staff was super nice but we waited an hour and a half for dinner to arrive - were told 3 times in a 35 minute period that our food is coming out. Ridiculous really but food was delicious.
Lovely outdoor patio, wonderful food, great place for an elegant dinner!
I imagine because of the location of the kitchen and the dining room, the meal arrived cold. It took forever for another request to arrive, the server was busy and not attentive to us, the manager never came by our table, although the waiter said she should have. The waiter did comp our meal without us asking. It is a shame, because we used to enjoy going there. Pricing on the menu is very high, and choices are limited.
Worst experience ever. 1-1/2 hours to receive our meals. Food was either raw or over cooked. Server was unattended. 4 of us dining each had issues. After table next to us complained to manager for same reasons we had our turn. Bottom line we paid for the $78 bottle of wine but refused to pay for food as did other table. Manager agreed.
I love this place! I've been here several times--for lunch, drinks & dinner--and it never disappoints. I particularly like the comfortable, casual but upscale outdoor garden atmosphere, the inventive food & drinks menu and entertainment when it is available. Great vibes in a hidden San Diego gem of a restaurant.
Wonderful atmosphere and good food choices make for a great evening at Mustangs & Burros at the Estancia Resort. We will be back for sure!
Best swordfish tacos!
Secluded atmosphere and very lovely environment. If you love sweet rosé, they don’t have one. Their rosé was dry side of note which I love it that way but my friend didn’t. Service was a little slow despite not many guests were there at the time of our reservation(4:30pm on Friday evening). Food, we mainly picked from the Happy Hour menu wasn’t that special. Though it was good. I highly recommend this place for a dinner with friends.
Really slow service and long wait for delivery of food.
I’ve gone to this restaurant many times over the years. It is a very nice setting and ambiance. The food has gone down hill and is now very average and extremely expensive. The service has become horrendous. We waited nearly 2 hours for our food. Won’t be going back.
We waited over 35 minutes after getting served our first drink - not one staff member made eye contact with us for that 35 minutes so finally we asked someone to send our server over - once a female we had not seen all evening approached our table - we asked are you our server and she said "maybe I am and maybe I am not" and we were disgusted and asked for the manager and she told us "we couldn't talk to her like that" and so we left. BIZARRE and awful - sad because we normally love this place. Never again.
Killer Ceviche. Perfect drinks. Great ambience. Very nice wait people.
It just wasn’t as great as usual.
Eggplant was lumpy (not completely roasted ) and olives were not well prepared and very bitter.
I still don’t like the patio being closed off. It doesn’t feel like Estancia anymore.
Always a good meal. Spotty service. Pleasant and cordial.
Rude and disconnected staff. Unattentive to my requests.
Great service ! Food was tasty.
Food was average.. I had New York steak that was very tough.. only ate part . Service was erratic .. Told server we were celebrating 2 birthdays .. never acknowledged it and when reminded said we could pick a dessert off the menu .. would have been nice to have a candle ..So minimal effort for our family celebration The hotel is very pretty and hotel staff very nice.
We celebrated my nephew’s birthday. Our evening was great. The food was delicious and the service outstanding.
Food was wonderful! Devon's service was the best - very attentive, and knew the menu & wine list well. Thank you, and we will be back!
Stopped in for dinner after checking into the hotel. Menu was over priced and nothing seemed that mouthwatering. Very fancy food in a very casual setting.
Nice location but the food was very expensive and just mediocre. The waiters weren’t super attentive. I don’t think this will be a return restaurant for us.
The courtyard was comfortable and conducive to having conversations.
The happy hour food options were good though the wine options were limited
Lovely dinner prior to a show at LJ Playhouse. Service was great and food delicious with a variety of choices.
This spot is disappointing overall. Ambience and food were great. But poor service and lack of professionalism poured cold water on the total experience.
Noise was unbearable! Tomahawk steak was just ok, not excellent. Well prepared but not tender. The enormous steak knife was hard to hold and wasn’t sharp! I’d say that the whole experience could be described as all hat and no cattle!
My best test for a restaurant that purports of offer top quality is the fish stew. The cioppino was just so-so. Not particularly hot when served. I was amazed that they did not have cocktail forks to deal with the mussels. Kind of pricey. Server did not seem to have a grasp of the menu. I felt that we were being treated as low lives and that we were served by a busser. The restaurant has a long way to go to live up to its location.
Wedding Party there very loud food not that good steak not cooked as ordered
Great quiet location with outdoor seating. Although not very busy, service was lacking. Food was ok, no-one ever checked back with us once served.
Menu changed. Lost a few staple items (bring back the nachos!) and prices got jacked up. Service and food aren't worth the increase in menu price, unfortunately. Beautiful setting otherwise at the Estancia.
The Tomahawk steak with chimichuri sauce was awesome pricey but taste so good!! Truffles aioli French fries awesome ! Great service friendly staff! Complimentary valet service ! A great place to have lunch or dinner ! Nice patio to enjoy a happy hour!!
We brought our 20 month old twins and their parents to dinner with us. We ate outside this time (inside the night before) and we loved it. Great, great children’s menu, interesting cocktails, terrific food, and really good service. This one’s a keeper. And the kids were able to run around in the grassy areas outside to get the wiggles out before dinner. Thank you to our waiter, Jose, and the busboy, Manny, for excellent service!
Food was very cold and steaks not prepared as ordered. We will no longer expose our UCSD guest to this experience
Happy Hour at Mustangs & Burros is perfect. We sat out on the patio and our server recognized us from our previous visit and even remembered our drink order! We had our "granddog" with us and they provided her a water bowl too. Delicious food, comfortable patio and attentive staff. We shared the small bites and tried the flatbread this time in addition to the fish tacos and grilled brussel sprouts, ending the evening with the chile chocolate tart with vanilla bean ice cream. Definitely plan to stay at Estancia again and take advantage of Happy Hour at Mustangs.
The quality of the food is excellent, fresh and innovative
Not a good place for a single diner. Too quite. Very expensive. Would be nice for a couple or a quiet dinner with some friends or family.
