Muse Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Honestly, we felt more like a nuisance than anything at dinner. When we were seated we had time to briefly review the menu and decided on two starters. When we attempted to order starters our waitress let us know that due to high volume that evening the kitchen wanted customers to order starters and entrees at the same time and she would come back and get both orders. Maybe this was because it was restaurant week however, we both ordered from the regular menu. This also seemed strange since it was 5:00OPM and there were very few tables occupied. Our waitress came back minutes later to get our full orders. At one point in the evening we heard an employee walk down the hallway say that they just needed to make it though the evening. We definitely did not know the context of the conversation but it personally made me feel like we should exopodite our meal. We did appreciate that we were seated promptly upon arrival and enjoyed the music through the home.
The food is fine but if you are looking for a Charleston dining experience to rave about this is not the restaurant.
Another great experience at Muse! We felt a little rushed by the waiter in the beginning, but that decreased throughout our 2-hour time there (we made sure there wasn't a wait for the table!) The server made a great wine recommendation and was happy to answer any questions about the menu. I did include that it was my birthday in the OpenTable reservation, but this isn't the type of place to bring you a free desert unfortunately. We had the squash soup, calamari and duck for appetizers; as well as the sea bass and osso buco, all was deliciuous!
We had New Years dinner and was very disappointed. When entering the host was sitting and without a welcome or looking at us she just yelled, "Your name?" The wait staff seemed more interested in taking/processing our order in contrast to an enjoyable experience. We ordered the cauliflower soup which was salty and the fish on the select menus was also very salty. I will not go back.
New Years Eve Pre party dinner. Seated upstairs. Dark & dingy atmosphere. The maitre d explained how Sick she had been and shouldn’t get too close. Took 20 minutes to get a beverage. Ordered a Chardonnay. Waiter brought me a Cabernet. Finally brought me a Chardonnay. He admitted he didn’t know a thing about wine. Ordered the lobster and gnocchi. Lobster came quickly. The gnocchi was mushy then I noticed the lobster was actually cold and translucent. Couldn’t cut it as it was raw. Returned my meal. They brought it back out on the same mushy gnocchi, top appeared seared when I flipped it over the bottom was still cold & raw. At that point I sent it back & had shared my daughters steak which was prepared fine.
They didn’t offer to adjust our bill nor did we ask unfortunately but I could not possibly eat my meal.
We felt that because it was New Years Eve they were just trying to get us in and out quickly.
We enjoyed a great 3 course meal that was the special New Years Eve menu. You selected one appetizer, entree, and dessert from about 4 options in each category. The four of us all selected different things, and all were wonderful! The price was very good, for downtown Charleston. Our server was personable, prompt, and informative. A good way to end 2017!
Service was poor. Could not pronounce the specials we had to overhear from another server st another table. Server opened wine and poured taste for someone who wasn’t drinking. Then did not pour wine for rest of table. Did not provide appetizer plates so we had to use bread plates. Did not clear dirty plates before entrees were served. Food was good but portions were small-not much value. Would not go back. For the cost, service should have been way better.
Wonderful atmosphere and great food. The bar is lively and the bartender Donny makes everyone feel so welcome. The restaurant is very cozy and the food never disappoints. I have only lived in Charleston for a little over a year and have tried many great places, but I keep coming back to Muse because it is one of my favorites.
The waitstaff at Muse was most accommodating when we told them we had someone in our party of 15 who could not walk easily up the stairs. Our party was transferred downstairs without any complaints by the staff. In addition, the food was fantastic and everyone said what a memorable Christmas Eve was shared by all. Thank you for making this holiday so special for our family. Also, my husband said we will be back for the incomparable lamb sausage appetizers.
We were a family of 6 and were excited to dine at Muse for a special holiday dinner. We found the service painfully slow, although the servers were pleasant. The menu had adequate choices but the portions were very small. We do not expect a plate that is heaped with food and is enough to take half home. The chicken liver pate was a tiny spoonful. The Calamari was uninspiring and far from the best we have had. The boullibaise was barely an adequate portion for the lady and not for the gentleman. The gnocchi was just okay and the biggest disappointment was the portion of spaghetti that was so small our 15 year old granddaughter said “this seems like an appetizer”.
We all gave her bites of our small portions. The desserts were very good. We have eaten at most all the top restaurants in Charleston and hoped we had found a hidden gem but that is not the case. Your restaurant is rough around the edges, and needs to to be reviewed by YOU. Sadly, we cannot not recommend Muse to others.
Dinner was phenomenal. They make all their own pasta and the gnocchi was sublime. The calamari was served grilled instead of fried. It was delicious. After dinner we went to the bar and sat with Danny the bartender. He was hysterical. It was a fabulous dining experience followed by a great nightcap. Neighborhood gem.
Our reservation was at 5:00 p.m., right when they opened. The atmosphere when we walked in was cozy, quaint, and so welcoming. My girlfriend and I were greeted by a few staff members and were seated at a very comfortable table in the corner. Stephanie was our server and she couldn't have had a better personality or demeanor, she was outstanding! As an appetizer we ordered the Bruschetta, it was delightful and so flavorful. My girlfriend ordered the Gnocchi Verde with grilled chicken as an entree, and I ordered the Chef's Choice of Steak which wound up being a 12 oz. New York strip. Both of us were extremely pleased with our choices and left next to nothing on our plates! Everything about our experience was exceptional! They have a great selection of wine and a pleasing beer selection as well. Five stars all around, we will definitely be back! We've both worked in f&b long enough to know when we've struck gold, and Muse radiates quality and hospitality! Well done! Thank you so much for a memorable experience, and a wonderful date night!
Authentic, delicious Italian fare pared with an amazing wine selection recommended by a very knowledgeable staff! Arrive early for drinks at the cozy bar, and listen to the bartender's advice. Appreciate the imported ceramic service as you arrive at your table, and be sure to ask about the town in Italy from where it is imported (Ravello). Personal favorite menu selections include the lamb merguez meatballs, great cheese plate selections, beet salad...and, later, the bolognese is to die for, as is the crispy sea bass, the scallop plate, and whatever steak selection the chef has prepared for the evening. Don't hesitate to order the veal if you're a fan, because it is out of this world good. Allow your server to pair each course with an appropriate wine, and you will have an incredible, perfectly well-rounded dining experience. Five stars every time!
One of my favorite restaurants and it's consistently good. It's in an old house and the various rooms are decorated differently and delightfully with an old world decor. Each room is relatively small with two larger rooms and two very small rooms with maybe 3 tables each. The wait staff are excellent and knowledgeable when it comes to wines and their offerings. Can't say enough good things about Muse.
We have been here 4 times now. It has been excellent every time. This time we had the calimari appetizer. Nice Smoky flavor. The trigger fish, scallops and veal scaloppini. All delicious. The waiter recommended a medium priced red wine. It really was a great evening.
