First time there. Lovely decor. Friendly female waiter. Excellent bartender. Good wine selection. Had the fresh catch of the day which was an eight on a ten scale. The duck breast appetizer was a nine.
My date and I enjoyed a lovely evening with terrific food and wine.
I would go there again. It is a bit on the expensive side, but it is worth it.
We went to Muse for my birthday dinner. We ordered two entrees (scallops, ribeye) and two vegetable sides. The waiter returned to tell us that one of the vegetables (asparagus) was not available. So my husband ordered green beans. The waiter didn't tell him that the steak he had ordered already came with green beans, so we wasted that order. My scallops were good but not amazing. My husband's steak came with too much gristle and no seasonings. It was tough. The total for our two entrees, two vegetable sides, and two glasses of pinot noir was $163. At that price, I would expect both better food and better service--and I would have had those at many other Charleston restaurants.
The swordfish was the best I have ever tasted. My date said the scallops were also excellent.
Everything was wonderful...staff, service, food and ambience! Would recommend and will go back.
We had the mussels as our appetizer and the scallops and swordfish (local catch of the day) as our two meals. Everything was delicious, but the swordfish stole the show. Our waiter was able to suggest great wine pairings. Everything was perfectly cooked, the service was attentive and quick, and the ambiance was quiet and personal. We will absolutely be eating here again soon—perfect dinner for a nice date night.
Average food and service. Meal was ruined by employee who could be heard from the kitchen dropping the “f bomb” ever other word while telling what appeared to be a personal story to other employees. No music to drown her out in the small dining area that was only separated from the kitchen by a curtain. When we asked the greeter to say something, he did, but she continued to talk and made a comment about it being “table 22” which when we looked at our bill, was table 24 however we were the only table in the dining room at the time. Not a good overall representation of the restaurant. Our money and time would’ve been better spent elsewhere.
Our server was amazing. The food was outstanding. The Gluten Free and vegetarian choices were PERFECT! Our dinner was on Friday night. I am only now, on Sunday afternoon, feeling like I might be ready to eat again. I was STUFFED!!! :-)
GreAt little “in place “ with great food , much better than the more well known Charleston restaurants. Great ambiance
Looking forward to returning
A wonderful meal! Four old friends got together and the meal was everything we could have hoped for.
During reservation process they asked about the occasion which I responded was a birthday - but it wasn’t acknowledged. That was slightly disappointing.
The food was fantastic, I loved the quaint environment but the waiter was the best. He was pleasant, attentive and so darn nice!
Recommended by a friend. We were visiting Charleston
Excellent service and pleasant atmosphere. Food was average. Meza platter was very good and chocolate torte was outstanding. Entrees were ok, mine wasn’t hot, rather lukewarm. My husband didn’t care for his dish either.
The atmosphere was great, but the food was just fair. The caprese salad was excellent, but the fish I ordered was bland and a little dry and baba ganoush was not good.
Been there several times and always like the cozy atmosphere and good food.
Visited with five friends for birthday celebration. Warm atmosphere in restaurant. Conversation was easy b/c noise level at a minimum. However wine was served in a very dirty glass - had to send back. Next glass not qute as dirty but still., Seabass was very greasy. Asparagus was huge not tender. Green beans undercooked. Unfortunately overall, we would not come back again.
We really enjoyed Muse. We sat at a table outside which was well covered and dry - even on a somewhat rainy night. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect (not oversized like you often find with some pasta dishes or undersized like you often find in high-end restaurants). The service was great and the atmosphere was perfect. It was nice to sit outside on a warm fall evening and enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown Charleston. We looked very hard to find the right restaurant for our last evening in town and we were so happy we chose this one.
Very nice home style setting. (It’s an old home). Our service was excellent. However she brought out only below average food. 12 of us ate and nobody raved of food. A few were saying ..”well it was ok” and I ordered a rib eye. It was the worst steak I’ve ever gotten in a restaurant. Tough from one end to the other. I didn’t want to complain in front of friends but had they not been there it would have been sent back in a hurry.
You could get a much better steak at an IHOP!! (And get pancakes with it😳)
Donny in the bar was by far the highlight of our night! He was spectacular! It was downhill from there. Our waiter was indifferent and could care less about us. I don’t think he told us his name. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either.
Great waiter and entrees. Bartender is one of best in town.
Great food, great service, great surroundings! What more could you ask for in a restaurant?
Quaint, quiet, excellent food and wine.
First time eating at this restaurant and felt it had all the elements my husband and I look for in a favorite restaurant. Good music, quaint atmosphere, great service and very good food! We are planning to go back and bring another couple who are coming to visit Charleston.
Great little restaurant in downtown Charleston. Very vibrant bar scene. Menu items are very nicely prepared Italian cuisine. Good wine list with most wines being Italian. Not a lot of parking around the restaurant and parking is metered. Would recommend.
Great service, intimate, and the scallops and paella was top notch. Highly recommend.
Once again after making a reservation through the Open Table four weeks ahead of our desired date and reconfirming the reservation the day before only to have being shown to the worst table in the restaurant while they had other free tables to offer. We were well dressed for the restaurant (sport coat for my husband and a very nice dress for me). After refusing the table, we were informed that the other tables were being planned for other people. At this point, we would have walked out had it not been our anniversary. Restaurant wasn't full, when we checked in they were going to show us a table immediately even before we had a chance to say we had a reservation. Food was okay, nothing to write home about. I don't like it when the chef thinks that he has seasoned the food to the right stand, thereby not having either pepper or salt on the table. My veal was on the bland side. Service was extremely slow. We are use to leisurely dining experience as we had previously lived in europe. But even by european standards, this was exceedingly slow. Needless to say we won't be returning.
This is a favorite place of my wife’s and I. We came here for our 5 year anniversary. We got the goat chesse bruschetta and calimari for an starter and both of us got one of their pastas first dinner. We will go back again soon
Arugula salad with crispy manchego cheese was wonderful; perfect and robust bolognese on their fresh pasta; duck breast app with a side of mushroom risotto all made for our best mesl in Charleston. Our waiter
Was excellent...knowledgable about food and wine and a genial chap with serious surfing chops.
A delightful meal in a wonderful setting.
We just left after enduring the most disappointing meal ever. We had a 6pm reservation to celebrate my wife’s “mid-eighty” birthday which was stated when we booked via OpenTable. We had also requested outdoor seating but if to hot or cool we’d sit inside. We were seated downstairs and when entering we noted some tables were only partially set. All had mismatched silverware and glasses but only two tables had decorative plates. Our table did not have plates and was sat for three. The third setting was never removed until dessert was ordered which we thought unusual.
Our server, Jan, seemed to be preoccupied even to the point that a blonde from the front bar came bounding through the room raising her voice to say a couple had been sitting outdoors for 15 minutes waiting to be at least acknowledged. The evening specials were described and a few minutes later we
ordered. We shared a Meze Platter ($15) but the Flat Bread was so burnt the server suggested she get some less burnt. The Baba Gannoush was excellent but the Hummus was very runny. My wife ordered the Veal Scaloppini ($27) which was tough but the sauce was tasty. I ordered the Lamb Chops ($34) served with Asparagus, Carrots, Cannellini Beans & Rosemary Demi. I got one chop, not “chops” as listed on menu and with French beans and a tasteless risotto. Not as listed on the menu but no explanation. Disappointing but with the servers attitude and her trying to serve inside and out I just let it go. Desserts were good, the Chocolate Tort and Chocolate Mousse with Hazelnut Cake ($8 each). My wife order a Cappuccino ($6) that was Luke warm at best.
If you get seated in the downstairs room be prepared for constant traffic as all service is carried from the kitchen through the room. It is also the traffic pattern for the restrooms. As the floors are wooden the foot steps are noisy. At $168 for two I don’t recommend Muse. No recognition for our special occasion was disappointing too.
Food was amazing! Best meal we had in Charleston
The presentation of the food was beautifully thought out. However the food lacked the depth of flavor that I was hoping for. The staff was well informed about the food but lacked the attentiveness needed. Combined with the owner/hostess who acted more like a bouncer rather than someone who welcomes you, seats you and makes you feel as though you are in for a treat and the general experience leaves you wanting an encore but definitely not at the same establishment.
Our “new” favorite place in Charleston.
The entire experience was great. The upstairs dining area was nice and the food was very well prepared. The staff was very attentive as well.
Flew across the country all day and wanted a delish and quiet dinner before ending our day. Muse did not disappoint!
Great quaint place to sit down and talk. Very homey and good one-on-one service with excellent quality.
Very pleasant atmosphere, decent food and service. Mediocre overall. Caprese salad was of good size, quality and flavor. Mussel appetizer was a mix - mussels were small and tasteful, but broth was way too watery - needed a bit more salt and needed to be boiled down more - too bland. Seafood Paella was good - decent flavor and consistency, but low on quantity. Food delivery was fairly quick; service pleasant and attentive. We shared some gelato which was good. Overall, decent but not great given the price.
Food and service was very good. Calamari was crisp. Bruscheta good. Bolognese was very good. Noisy party of 8 in our dining area was irritating. My mom couldn't make it upstairs easily, and it was too hot out to eat outside, so we had no choice.
Love the ambiance! Cozy, quiet for conversation🤗, great service and very good menu. We will most definitely return. A true nugget sweetly tucked away on beautiful Society Street🌺
