My wife and I have eaten here numerous times and was excited to share the experience with out of town colleagues. For some reason the steak wasn’t good this time around. It didn’t have the same flavor we remembered. It was bland, and luke warm. The sides were uneventful and the soup was over cooked and mushy. The service was outstanding but the meal wasn’t pleasant this time around.
Murray's butter knife steak for two is the way to go. Unfortunately, sometimes the wait staff treats you like second rate if you order this.
Murray's never disappoints. The steaks are the best in town. The wait staff is superior. We go every year for our anniversary without fail. I couldn't imagine spending it anywhere else. Ricardo is the best waiter in the world. A+++
My wife and I dined at Murray's recently for the first time. The occasion was our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. On arrival, we were warmly greeted and the hostess ensured we received seating in a relatively quiet table, and that our reservation was kept on time. We ordered the Silver Butter Knife Steak for Two, and the hickory shrimp and crab cake apps. Because it was our anniversary, we were treated to a complimentary dessert of homemade chocolate cake with toffee and whipped cream -a very sweet surprise! All of the food was incredibly delicious, and the atmosphere, service, and overall dining experience made our evening special.
The steak ( 10 oz. Fillet ) was the best I have ever had!
The sides were blanned. A little salt and pepper was needed, but they didnt have any on the table.
We had a great experience, exceptional service and food.
It was a special event for our family and the service was excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal experience at Murray's. A baked potato could have been baked a bit longer though wasn't a show stopper. It's a bit pricey compared to some similar local options especially if one adds a la carte items (side vegetable, refill of soft drinks) without paying attention to how that runs up one's tab. Generally speaking this is a fine, venerable favorite destination for me to entertain friends and family for dinner when I am in town.
This is a great restaurant. The beet salad and the crab cakes with spicey aioli were wonderful starters. The artichoke and spinach risotto side was cheesy and just fantastic. The 10 ounce filet with bearnaise was just perfect. I give this place a 4.7 star rating. One of Minneapolis' best dining experiences.
We attended the Silver Oak wine dinner - it was amazing! The food served by your chef was SO good and the wine pairings were perfect!
the food was excellent, Our waitress picked out a wonderful wine for us, we were not rushed which was great because we were friends that needed to catch up.
we had great service and wonderful food and that is why we keep coming back.
I love this place! The atmosphere is wonderful, very 1960s "Mad Men." It's a historic restaurant and it retains that mid-century vibe. It's pricey but a great place to celebrate a special occasion.
Lovely Mother’s Day dinner at an old favorite of ours.
My wife and I try to visit Murray's at least once per year to celebrate special occasions. This visit was for Mothers Day and once again, it did not disappoint. We always split the famous "Silver Butter Knife Steak" and a bottle of Cab. If you haven't visited Murray's, do yourself a favor and take your date, they'll appreciate it.
We enjoyed ourselves from the minute we walked in till we left.
Our waiter was wonderful - helpful polite.
We will return.
Mother’s Day 2018, Friendly, Lovely, and Delicious Food.
We had later reservations, but everything came very quickly. Less than 90 minutes from being seated to leaving
Lovely evening! Portions were quite large...reduce portions and prices??
We met out-of-town friends who were quite interested in the history of Mpls v. st. Paul, they appreciated the little table booklet.
Just a wonderful experience!
Always a special treat to come to Murrays, the food is always GREAT,service very friendly and knowledgeable, SO AN AMAZING NIGHT OUT!!!!!!Thanks thanks....
Food was great while we celebrated our daughters birthday
Dennis was attentive waiter,as was water filler
Excellent service, fantastic list of drinks and beverages. Great setting for special occasion or business meeting. Oh yeah I forgot to mention how good the food was!!!
Fantastic! Love Murray’s great wait staff, great food it’s everything you want in a steakhouse.
Awesome steaks and scallops. Have been to many different steakhouses and this one ranks highly. Will eat here again.
Great food, pleasant staff. The assumptions on if we could afford it made me giggle. It was amazing food!
Steaks and cocktails were wonderful and service was great. Sadly I was extremely disappointed that despite having a reservation well in advance for a special occasion with friends from CA we were seated at a horrible booth in the back of the restaurant between two kitchen doors with carts and people banging in and out all evening. It was embarrassing and really put a damper on what could have and should have been a wonderful evening. Sadly it was memorable for the wrong reasons.
As always very nice place to go for a special occasion. Slight disappointment of them no longer offering the lemon pie, but that was replaced by a very similar Lemon Pavlova that was extraordinary. The steak was very good but I regret not getting the Wagu, instead opting for the dry aged strip, which while very good wasn't my most favorite steak in the world. The texture was good, doneness was perfect but the flavor was just a little off, which was probably due to the aging. This was my first dry aged steak so I'm assuming it's more my taste buds then anything else.
The ambiance was very nice, there was a prom party in the area we were in which was a little loud but not terrible. Once they'd left the place quieted down to a more acceptable level.
Drinks were very good, their scotch sampler was impressive and a very good value IMO.
The service was great, water glass was always filled, staff were present but not overbearing, giving us space to enjoy our cocktails and conversation and not getting in the way of things, yet always were around when we needed something.
I'd recommend going again, it continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities.
Food is excellent and the service is even better. Such a treat to receive real, attentive, unaffected services -- a rarity!
Murray's is always fantastic...period. The silver butter knife is simply fantastic every time. The hash browns are done crispy and are great too. In fact, I have never had a bad experience with anything at Murray's. Oh, and the garlic toast. It is so addicting.
We came here to celebrate our last night in town. The food and service was SUPERB and AWESOME! We came for the "piece de resistance", the 28 oz. Silver Butter knife Steak for two. It did not disappoint! We loved it. It was very tasty (the special spice was incredible) and the steak was melt in your mouth and "Heavenly". In addition to being very tender (we ordered medium rare) we loved the seasoning. They carved it right at our table but the killer was after they put the slices on our plates they poured the juices on it. The "Garlic Toast" in our bread bowl was very buttery and spicy. It rocked. We told the waitress how we loved the garlic toast and she told us that it was seasoned with Murrays secret spice which is the same used on the steak! For an appetizer we shared the maple bacon wrapped shrimp and it was delicious. The Butter knife steak was served with a choice of soup, or salad and a choice of baked potato, mashed, au gratin or seasonal vegetables. My wife had the French Onion soup. I had the Caesar Salad and this was first class because they asked me if I wanted anchovies on it. I said yes and it came with real anchovies. It is not often you get real anchovies. For dessert I had Lemon Pavlova tart and my wife had Murray's Raspberry Pie (with whole raspberries!). Everything was delicious. The service was excellent and empty dishes were cleared away quickly. We found the restaurant very noisy due to lots of people / groups having a great time but we didn't mind. Although it may be rude to watch other people eating, I looked at a few people eating the Silver Butter knife steak and you can tell by the expression on their faces that they were loving it! The drinks were great. For drinks: I had Pimm's Revival, Moscow Mule Stoli and a Spanish Coffee. My wife had a Maui Waui, a glass of Altos Malbec, and Mochaccino expresso. Definitely a great way to celebrate our last night in town. We will definitely come back.
Had not been to Murray's since the mid-1980's when it was my go-to destination for client dinners. We ordered the Silver butter knife steak for two. It was an unbelievable, buttery, salty, crusty delicacy sliced and plated tableside. Our server, Marcia was a long time veteran who made us feel very welcome. Only negatives were the Ceasar salad which was a glorified house salad with little taste and the au gratin potatoes were adequate, but not nearly as good as back in the day. Complimentary basket of buttery garlic toast was also exceptional. We'll be back.
We ordered the chateaubriand and each had au gratin potatoes. My wife had French Onion soup and I had a Caesar Salad. Chateaubriand is a wonderful steak, but Murray's made it even better. One of the best steaks that I've ever had. We can't wait to go back the next time we are in Minneapolis.
Food was great service was great what more could you ask for!! Definitely will be back when I come to Minneapolis!! Great experience thanks!!
Best food value in the twin cites The Sliver Butter Knife is great for two people . There are no bones in this steak it is all meat. No fat to trim away . You get two sides with this meal. We had ours rare and it was great meal. And had enough too take home for our Sunday dinner
This was a great spot to celebrate a birthday. We tried the butter knife steak for two (which was way too much but makes great leftovers). Then our wait staff brought us a decadent piece of chocolate cake which we found room in our "treat bellies" to eat the entire piece. Delicious. It was a really nice experience. I would go back for a special dinner.
Great food, great service!! We will be back!!
Have enjoyed Murray's since the late '70s -- every time I'm in the Twin Cities. This time, I brought my wife, my daughter and her husband, and two grandchildren under 5 years old (who are very restaurant-experienced). EVERYONE at Murray's was so warm and welcoming to our family and made the evening very special. And the food, as always, was phenomenal. There's a special kid's menu (yay, Mac & Cheese!) which made it fun for the kids too. And again, the staff was truly wonderful, with many stopping by to see and hold my admittedly adorable one-year old grandson. I can't say enough about Murray's -- it's a great place for fun, food AND family. I give it 5 stars and two thumbs-up!
Outstanding food, service, and experience. The best steak dinner I’ve ever had. The waiter was superb and gave valuable suggestions. Can’t wait to return to Murray’s!!!
