Murray's Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge
Wonderful dining experience. A classic. Educated waiter . Not stuffy. Great steaks.
My husband and I celebrated his birthday with dinner at Murray’s. I hadn’t been for several years. Every time I have dined there it has been excellent. This was no exception. The place was quite busy but we were given a table in a smaller room which made conversation easy. Service was impeccable. The water glasses were never less than half full. Service was attentive. Everything we ate was excellent. We both had the tenderloin steak. We shared hash browns, au gratin potatoes and onion strings. My husband also had a Caesar salad. We each had a glass of wine. Because it was his birthday they brought a small Bundt cake with whipped cream, fresh raspberries and a candle. There is nothing that could have been better. Over dinner we talked about how we needed to come more often. A truly wonderful evening.
We felt like royalty. From the moment we entered, the staff graciously took care of our every need. The food and ambiance was top notch. True professionals at their craft. Can’t wait to go back!
Worst table in the restaurant but the service and the food were awesome
Wonderful food and the service is amazing. This is our go to place for special occasions.
We love your restaurant!! Thank you for the high standards that you keep with every aspect of the dining experience!
The chateaubriand was fabulous. The service was very good. The holiday decorations added a lovely touch to the dining experience. Each course came out a little faster than we prefer and the butternut squash was lukewarm as was my lobster bisque.
Also, as my wife was waiting for my return from the restroom, she was accosted by a man who wanted money. He was escorted out of the restaurant but it certainly upset my wife.
This was our first time and we came with our children. The staff was wonderful! They helped us manage our time since we were going to a play afterward, accommodated our children and were simply lovely.
Atmosphere is always lovely. Our service was somewhat slow (we ordered coffee to go with dessert, but the coffee came after the dessert). The fish sandwich ordered was a frozen breaded fish filet, it was not hot (only warm) when served and so it was disappointing. The hand made potato chips were spicy hot which was not expected. Overall, Murray's is known for it "butter knife steak". If I were to go again, I will order the steak and stay away from fish sandwiches and hamburgers. Yes, I would recommend Murray's but would remind people that is a steak house.
Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was perfect.
We had a wonderful Anniversary dinner and would highly recommend going here. We eat out a lot so we aren't often impressed, especially being it is higher priced for our area, but we would go back here again and we do recommend it.
As always, the absolute BEST meal in the twin cities. And a fantastic experience overall. Bonus: the holiday decorations are up. 😃
A classic in every way. If you want great steak, this is the place to go. 10 oz. fillet is a standout, sides were good, service is always polished and friendly. Thankful this institution of fine dining is still around... you don't get this kind of experience very often.
What is familiar is often forgotten... you should go.
For anyone who likes the traditional steakhouse atmosphere, high quality and tasty food, along with first class friendly service, this is your place. Since 1946, but new every day. We love it!!
This was my birthday dinner. I choose Murray's restaurant because it is always special to dine at Murray's.
Our adult son was in town and it was his birthday, so we took him to Murray's because he'd never been. I haven't been in many, many years. Hubby & I split chateau briand and it was delicious. We ordered mushrooms and squash to go along with the steaks. Kid had the rib-eye special and made through only 1/2 of it. It is pricey, so bring your wallet. Most things are a la carte. The silver butter knife options come with choice of two sides (chateau briand is in that category). We also had escargot before dinner - a family fave. My only complaint is that although we weren't rushed, when one plate was cleared the next quickly took its place. I would have preferred to linger a little more especially given the bill. (Chateau Briand for 2 is $105.) Not an enormous criticism and they are most likely some that would prefer to keep the ball rollin'. One last thing - our son ordered the chocolate cake for dessert and since we were there for his birthday, that was on the house.
Best steak house in MN!
Silver butter knife steak for two always delicious. Service is outstanding. Our favorite special occasion destination. Garlic toast ten thumbs up!
Was very nice
My wife and I stopped for dinner after an afternoon at a broadway show, I had heard that The butter knife steak was excellent and the reports were absolutely true, and their garlic toast was the best I've had, the service was top notch from a bygone era that unfortunately we do not see any more. Our server "slim" was very knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant and was very willing to make a recommendation on their extensive wine list, I will be going back as soon as feasible as we love 4 hours north of their location
Amazing as always. I will continue conduct business and enjoy Murrays often.
Steak delight was delicious as usual
Good selections. Come for great steaks. Charming bar with good happy hour selections.
The food and service was wonderful. My only complaint would be the noise level.
It was the most incredible cut of meat I have ever had. We weren't too keen of our side dishes/options. However, the beverages and steaks literally melt in your mouth and worth the perfect date night!
Because of the poor table service and attitude of the waiter, I was considering giving three stars. But I couldn’t because it wouldn’t be fair to the quality of the food and cocktails.
The specialty Cherrywood Sazeracs ($25) were delicious and, yes, a bit pricy—and worth it. The steak flight for two (ribeye/NY strip/filet) was fun to share with my son. Perfectly prepared medium rare. And the lobster tail was a nice extra.
The waiter. Lack of attentiveness and listening: served soup rather than the salad ordered, kept forgetting sparkling water, and his demeanor was just a bit off putting. My wife thought our table wasn’t a priority for him.
Asparagus spears were adequate. Nothing special. The pork loin was cooked fine but lacked seasoning or a distinctive flavor.
We love steakhouses and supper clubs, and for our first time to Murray’s we decided to take our son on his 14th birthday. If you’re searching for a premium all-around experience, I’d steer you to Manny’s or Gianni’s or Mancini’s rather than here. The waiter was just that poor.
Simply the best food service expensive put worth every cent
We went had a great time celebrating my husbands birthday, excellent food & service!! We’ll definitely be back!
This is the friendliest upscale Steak House in the entire US. They have maintained the family's culture which made it great in 1946 and prior to that in their original restaurant. Everyone should try this at least once.
After arriving, I decided to opt for bar area seating since it had a better vibe and I was not in the mood for a stuffy dining room at that time. While you give up the white table cloth service (which I did not mind) you do not give up the menu or the prices lol. You do receive an extra bar menu which had the best smoked wings on it !
As always, I was greeted at the door with a smile and immediately seated. The service and food were excellent. My favorite lunch and happy hour place!
We had a great time celebrating my parent’s 35th wedding anniversary! Murray’s is always a wonderful experience.
This is a classic old-time steakhouse. The service was excellent and the ribeye steak that I had is the best steak I can remember having. Everyone in our party of 4 loved their food and the overall experience. Very extensive wine list, especially reds, but with some nice whites as well.
I have eaten at a number of steak houses both in the Twin Cities and throughout the U.S. Murray’s is still tops! Excellent service, wonderful food, and improved ambiance since the remodel. They handle special occasions extremely well. Usually, the person being celebrated receives a delicious complimentary dessert. Of special note: The garlic toast melts in your mouth, and the way they age and flavor their beef is unequaled.
Our server Dylan was amazing! The gal who kept our water glasses full was perfect too!
Service is always great! Food always delicious!
Just love the steaks so much along with the garlic toast.
Both my guest and I enjoyed our starter bowls of onion soup and chili and our entrees. I am pleased your wait staff uniforms are pressed and that they are uniformed top to toe. All the staff appeared well groomed, neat and clean.
Offering milled pepper and automatically ensuring the coffee cups and water glasses are filled is important. I saved up to enjoy lunch at Murrays and compared to most other spots where I would have spent the same amount, you're tops.
Your menu is a good balance between substantive and lighter fare. Plates are nicely composed and your silverware is nicely made and doesn't gouge my fingers nor have bent or crooked tines.
I'll stop by tomorrow to purchase a gift certificate. best, tbb
