Murray's Cheese Bar Ratings and Reviews
Delicious food and cheese. Definitely don't come here if you're looking for something too healthy - we each ate our body's weight in cheese. Cozy ambiance and great wine list. By-the-glass options are good but pricey, bottle prices are incredibly reasonable though. The mac and cheese was amazing. This would be a great spot for a date, and their happy hour looked great, too. Definitely make a reservation! It filled up quickly.
Love Murray’s Cheese, so when I found out they had a cute little Cheese Bar next door I was so excited! Decided to take a first date here and it was a hit! Excellent wine selection and the New Yorker cheese plate was ahhhmazing! Also shared the Artichoke Dip, Meatballs and of course the FAMOUS Mac n Cheese. An absolute must try. Will be back again... and again.
THE Food was fantastic , and the restaurant completely lived up to its name as a cheese bar. We enjoyed our time for brunch, and it was very busy so the wait was understandable. Everyone seemed friendly. The restaurant, however, was uncomfrotably hot where we were sat near to the kitchen and so we were quick to leave.
Murray's is probably my favorite restaurant in NYC. Service is wonderful and the food is stellar. Have the staff create your meat and cheese plate for you. Order the buffalo cheese curds. Amazing!! I visit Murray's each time I'm in New York and will continue to do so.
The food was great but the service was less than par. It took over 5 minutes for someone to greet our table. The person that took our order (whom we believe was our waiter) never came back to our table- not for a checkin after receiving food, not for drink refills, not to give the check, not to say goodbye. We had to ask other staff for all of those things, even though our original server was still seen in the restaurant. Definitely did not leave us with a good feeling. With the price you pay for food here, you would expect your waiter to check-in with you at least once.
The food was delicious but pricey. We won't return, as we can get the same food items at other restaurants with much better service.
Overall, we enjoyed this restaurant. I love cheese and I was Impressed by the variety available, not to mention the quality of it. My cheese burger was spectacular and well combined with a strong flavoursome brie. However, the prosciutto harsh that went with it was a bit greasy, and I wasn't sure it was the best combination for the burger. My husband had a luxurious 3 cheeses toastie, but, again, we didn't think the side was right as it went with a green salad and nothing else. We thought that, for such a rich dish, you needed some pickles or a chutney, or something that would cut through the deep cheesy, battery flavour of the sandwich. Our opinion, of course!
My friends and I have eaten at Murray's Cheese Bar countless times and have never been treated the way they treated us this past Friday. I made a reservation for my birthday, and in my reservation I said it was for a birthday. That was entirely ignored. They asked us to order immediately after we were seated, and we asked we needed for a little time to review the menu. They waited 20 minutes to come back to take our order and only came after we flagged them down, after the table next to us (seated at the same time) was already eating. Once we ordered, the food came out slowly, and they took 20 minutes to bring the entrees after we had eaten the appetizers. Finally at the end, they drop off the bill without giving us a dessert menu, and within seconds the hostess asks us to move to the bar because the reservation that had our table next was impatient. This was absurd. All of the delays were due to their inept service. I asked to see the manager, and was told he was gone for the evening (at 9:20pm on a Friday?!). The server then argued with me about why I wanted to speak to the manager. Horrible service, horrible experience, never going back. Thanks for terrible birthday experience.
Words fail me when it comes to describing our brilliant cheese filled amazingness this evening.
We basically ate our way thru the menu and EVERY well crafted inspired dish was a true gourmet experience. The only thing that compared to the food was the attentive, cheerful, professional, and gracious staff. It will be a challenge but save room for the desserts ...
Can't wait to go back !!
We had a small group for a birthday celebration. The service was outstanding and the vibe was relaxed. The mac and cheese dishes were amazing. We loved almost everything we had (and the things we didn't love, we still liked). The mimosa flight for brunch was a fun option. Great restaurant!
The best part of my experience dining here was making the acquittance of Ashley, the hostess. She was very engaging, professional, patient and totally approachable. Most restaurants do not sit you unless the whole party is there, and Ashley sat me without making me wait. My gf had a serious issue with a sitter and as a result, she arrived an hour late! Ashley and Madonna both were cool and I appreciated them greatly for it. While waiting for my friend to arrive, I ordered the beet salad and it was terrible. Once my guest arrived, we had the raclette for 2 with a double order of prosciutto san daniele and it was a great experience. Being that this is a cheese bar, I think you should just stick to only ordering cheese plates.
Cheesemonger chose the cheeses and he did a great job. The fruit/jam pairings with different wine was very tasteful. Someone obvious knows cheese here. And we would come here frequently if we lived in NYC. Try Murrays Cheese Market a few doors down. It was great, too!
If heaven has a cheese bar, this surely is it. Not only is the cheese list comprehensive, the food menu is fantastic. I keep meaning to get something besides the mac and cheese but cannot seem to make myself pass it up! Friends have had the BLT and enjoyed it, he chicken biscuit, basically, everything is amazing. There's also a solid wine list, including 5 rosé options, if you're into that sort of thing. Big fan!
First of all, the rules about happy hour were not clear. Beer was buy one and get one free and wine was just reduced price. Not clearly stated by waitress. Placed our order and the waiter actually brought out lamb meatballs with toast that was black ( burned). I had to ask that he take it back. Then, after we completed our meal with sat 10 minutes with dirty plates on the table while at least 3-5 staff were just hanging out. I will never return or recommend for 1) service and 2) food quality. What is left- nothing.
Although the cheese was very good, it was so dark you couldnt see the menu and SO loud you could not speak to your date... and there were no bottles of wine for less than 45 dollars. definately would not go back. Expensive and unpleasant experience...such a shame
