Murray's Cheese Bar Ratings and Reviews
This was the first time I was disappointed at Murray's. The food, as always, was excellent. The service was a problem. We arrived promptly for our 4:00 PM reservation and were the first seated as Murray's just opened at 4:00 PM. We placed our order with a waiter we did not ever see again. After 45 minutes of waiting, we asked a passing server if there was a problem in the kitchen. Several other tables who arrived after us were being served. There was an apology and a free slice of cheese. Ten minutes later we received our orders and my burger came without the ordered bacon and onions. I hope this is a glitch and not a harbinger of things to come.
The fondue was not properly melted, they don't have the right equipment - it comes to the table semi melted but because there was only a small candle, it never actually melted further... They claim the dish is for 2 but really if you want to make it a full meal, it serves 1.
We were planning on going here for my sister's birthday in November, but little did we know how advanced you have to place your reservation.
So I decided for our family Christmas gift exchange, we'd come here and reserved it a month ahead.
Not disappointed, everything tasted amazing and the service was quick/attentive.
Love love love this restaurant! Of all the options in Nyc, this is one of my absolute favorites! I’ve been here on several occasions, and everything— service, food and wine— are all consistently amazing!
There is something for everyone on the menu, but may I suggest the buffalo cheese curds or the Mac n cheese! Insanely delicious!
Read numerous positive reviews about this place and wanted to try it over the past few years on visits to NY. Finally got there on recent trip and not disappointed. Great cheese and meat plates. Best lunch options appeared to be a wonderful BLT and an incredible baked Mac n cheese. Highly recommended.
I always take employees here when in from out of town- it is nice to walk them around the Village a bit and Murrays cheese shop before dining at the Bar. It is a unique experience you cant find elsewhere. This is not a place for traditional entree's, it is meant to share and try different combinations. I enjoy seeing how they incorporate cheese into so many items. We unanimously loved the mushroom and brie soup. Their cheese desserts never disappoint.
Wow! Absolutely love this bar! The service was 2nd to none, the staff were so attentive! My friends and I were visiting from England and meeting my son and his wife who live in Seattle and were working in New York for two days! It was a brilliant place to meet and very easy to find. The cheesemonger did phenomenal job of pairing cheeses and accompaniments. I could have eaten cheese all night! Gluten-free products are usually pretty bland and boring but I loved the little Crackers provided and my friends loved the pieces of baguette to accompany the cheeses. My main course was sprouts!!! Who would’ve thought you could have a veggie maincourse of sprouts, but it was absolutely delicious and full of flavour. Two of my friends had the Mac and cheese, it came with butternut squash and sage and was sensational. Can you tell I like this place!
I did not like Murray's Cheese Bar very much. The food presentations are intended to be cool and clever but they come off as pretentious and silly. The lamb balls were awful. The cheese, of course, was all good. The wines were good. The service was also pretty good. Overall though I would not go again nor recommend it.
We visit Murray's every time in NYC: did the cheese class 12+ years ago before the renovations.
Ian (our special Cheese Monger) made our experience extra special this time around - highly highly recommend letting him present his best cheese and meat board ...
Fantastic experience once again!
Delicious food and cheese. Definitely don't come here if you're looking for something too healthy - we each ate our body's weight in cheese. Cozy ambiance and great wine list. By-the-glass options are good but pricey, bottle prices are incredibly reasonable though. The mac and cheese was amazing. This would be a great spot for a date, and their happy hour looked great, too. Definitely make a reservation! It filled up quickly.
Love Murray’s Cheese, so when I found out they had a cute little Cheese Bar next door I was so excited! Decided to take a first date here and it was a hit! Excellent wine selection and the New Yorker cheese plate was ahhhmazing! Also shared the Artichoke Dip, Meatballs and of course the FAMOUS Mac n Cheese. An absolute must try. Will be back again... and again.
THE Food was fantastic , and the restaurant completely lived up to its name as a cheese bar. We enjoyed our time for brunch, and it was very busy so the wait was understandable. Everyone seemed friendly. The restaurant, however, was uncomfrotably hot where we were sat near to the kitchen and so we were quick to leave.
Murray's is probably my favorite restaurant in NYC. Service is wonderful and the food is stellar. Have the staff create your meat and cheese plate for you. Order the buffalo cheese curds. Amazing!! I visit Murray's each time I'm in New York and will continue to do so.
The food was great but the service was less than par. It took over 5 minutes for someone to greet our table. The person that took our order (whom we believe was our waiter) never came back to our table- not for a checkin after receiving food, not for drink refills, not to give the check, not to say goodbye. We had to ask other staff for all of those things, even though our original server was still seen in the restaurant. Definitely did not leave us with a good feeling. With the price you pay for food here, you would expect your waiter to check-in with you at least once.
The food was delicious but pricey. We won't return, as we can get the same food items at other restaurants with much better service.
