Murray's Cheese Bar
We love cheese, but our menu also features seasonal specials, high-quality meat and produce and fantastic happy hour specials during the week. Join us for dinner seven nights a week or weekend brunch next time you’re passing through Greenwich Village and see why we’re so in love with what we serve
Food was good. Service was unfortunately not as good. There was a misunderstanding because the description of an item the menu was poorly written, the server made no effort to clarify when we ordered or rectify after our order arrived not as expected. Lastly, the plates/slate slabs they use are great for cheese, but not for serving the roasted brusssel sprouts, made eating them nearly impossible without them falling off the slab and onto the table/floor.
Beautiful! The cheese and meat platters and their accompaniments were perfect pairings and the staff tag teamed to create a very comfortable, inviting, unique dining experience. The grilled artichokes and broccolini are dishes I’d like to recreate at home.
Everything was great except a question about seating.
I have been living in NYC for over 7 years now and must say that this is hands down the worst service I have ever received. Upon arrival, we weren’t greeted - we needed to look for someone who worked there in order to let them know we have a reservation. We needed to request tap water for the table. It took about 15 minutes to catch a server’s attention to put our order in. The order that was brought to the table was incorrect. We ordered the $40 cheese fondue which did not even come with the special long forks, while the table next to us had them so we needed to request those as well. I have had cheese fondue in Switzerland and this small portion at Murray’s was definitely overpriced and not warm enough. It was generally very difficult to get any server’s attention to order something so it wasn’t just one server in particular. The worst part was towards the end of our dinner, the restaurant turned all their bright lights on by 11:15pm to start kicking people out even though online the restaurant says it closes at midnight on Saturdays. This was generally a very unpleasant dining experience with the poorest service.
Great spot. Food is fantastic, and the wine list is pretty good.
Very overpriced. Made a 6:15pm reservation and was seated at a terrible table thy just out into the walkway. Asked to move over to a 2 seat table with a bench and was told that it was reserved for a larger party however both people on either side of us were couples. Very disappointing
Our New Years’s Day lunch. A treat, and a great value for the quality. The Cheesemonger’s Choice cheese plate — phenomenal. CB Bloody Mary — meh. Service — a little hard to get in general, but the cheese server was very knowledgeable. Will go again, and recommend.
Really good stuff
Excellent, food, service, wine, value. Really enjoyed delicious comfort food. Great choices start to finish.
Saw the Utube video and it was as good it looked! Got the Murray's grilled cheese with the tomato soup and it was fabulous!
Delicious cheese options, with nice wine in a cozy atmosphere. Definitely to include in the favorite restaurants list if you like cheese!
Wonderful restaurant with excellent wine and cheese pairings. However we went for Raclette but they were out that night, which was disappointing!
A perfect date night spot! We sat at the bar, and really enjoyed our time / food / wine.
Avoid the beet salad... It's terrible.
Such an excellent way experience. The food was wonderful as was the wine. Such fantastic cheese! The service was outstanding as well.
Murray's Cheese Bar is a neighborhood gem...all cheese, all the time! We came here for a multi-generational celebration and had a great evening. Two of us shared the fondue, the other folks ordered from the main menu. The lemon ricotta cheesecake is a must-order item! The staff were friendly and accommodating, as we needed to move tables to sit in a more quiet zone. The quiet zones are up front, near the entry. The back of the restaurant tends to be very loud.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to have a proper meal. Slow, careless service and no warning about last call for kitchen orders (which is around 3:30). Had a wonderful cheese platter and had to leave. Service hours should be explained in the website and upfront if you plan to accept reservations for 3:00 or 3:30 but literally close the kitchen between 3:30 and 5 to prepare the change to the dinner menu.
We ate here after what seemed to be the brunch rush - around 2:30pm on the weekend, and it took 15 minutes to order drinks after we were seated. We had no idea who our server was at any point and had to always just flag down a person who looked like they might work here to ask for more water, to order our meal, ask for check etc. The “Raclette for 2” we felt was small, about 12 1.5” slices of cheese - which is fine but the ridiculous part is there is no option to order additional cheese at all at this cheese bar. You can only order a full second order (which would double the amount of meat, pickles, onions that you again won’t have enough cheese for). So we did not. They also propped the door open so it was frigid inside and it just felt like they were trying to make everyone leave, when a place that serves melted cheese is typically a place people go to be cosy. The few tables around us were also visibly cold. Wouldn’t return.
Cute restaurant, but quite tiny. Great to share a couple of dishes to try various types of cheeses/recipes. Would go back for the food but not for the service.
If you love cheese, this is the place you go. Lovely selection of wine and cheese and really great fun. However if you want to have a quite chat with a friend, it can get quite noisy.
I love the place
We had the grand fondue and broccolini w some drinks shared between 3 people. It was more of appetizers or snacks than a meal. I recommend ordering more if you're hungry. The cheese was good but just smaller portions than expected for the price we paid.
The cheesemonger is exceptional but they have new wait staff that don’t meet prior expectations..
Horrible service.......we left before we had food, because no one acknowledged us. The couple at the table next to us left also.
The music playing had many disgusting words as well.
Great wine selection and adorable interiors. I loved the amount of snack options and the service was fantastic!
Though the kitchen closes down after lunch and doesn't open again until five, the charcuterie and cheese boards are generous and make an excellent afternoon snack paired with a decent choice of wines and beer. The Mousse aux cepes and the grand fondue were delicious. The tables were a little cramped but the atmosphere was fun.
Our raclette pan wasn’t really hot enough to melt the cheese, would recommend a better system or to order something else
Always love going here but when the servers realized they forgot to leave our bottle
of wine on the table (just our first filled glasses when we had ordered a bottle) they gave us a whole new bottle to apologize, which was above what we expected, excellent service.
Good, cheese-based food. Not great if you're on a diet, but otherwise a good spot to share dishes with friends.
The food here is always wonderful. On this visit the staff went next door to the cheese shop to get glutten free bread for someone in our group. Above and beyond.
My boyfriend and I met up here for our first date and have been coming back every year for our anniversary. It's a special place to us - not to mention all the cheese (and we mean ALL the cheese). Perfect for a first date / date night / fun time with friends. The vibe is intimate and the food is delicious.
Hectic, very loud, service was shabby. Sampling of foods, cheese, meats worth the chaos.
Jake is just so sexy, I can’t even
Great little neighborhood restaurant with the best macaroni cheese!
Best! Great food, amazing wine selection, perfect service!
Great fun place with good service and food offerings.
Fantastic food & decor but slow service
First time in a few years - and with one extra tiny human with us - for brunch. Super wonderful about selecting cheeses that an adventurous toddler might try. Nothing better than watching that little guy chow down on some gorgonzola dolce!
Just nothing special.
Very slow with the service food really nothing special.
I don’t think I will go back
Great food and wonderful selection of cheeses to choose from. Service could have been better, waiters were not very attentive to the group wanting to order more food/when plates were completed. However, overall good experience. Would recommend for cheese lovers.
The food was great. The cheesemonger did a great job with the selections of cheeses. The wine and beer was great. The pork sliders were amazing. Definitely will come back.
