Murray Circle Ratings and Reviews
I love meeting friends for a cozy lunch or dinner at Murray Circle because it is actually possible to have a conversation since the tables are spaced far enough apart. The setting in the middle of Fort Baker right by the parade grounds with easy parking, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and a view of the bridge can't be beat. The staff is very attentive and my recent lunch of seared ahi salad was delicious.
It was perfect in every way. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was delicious. Balanced, beautiful, creative tastes and presentation but not bizarre as some restaurants are prone to do these days. Every taste was complementary to every other bite on the plate and with the wine. What a fabulous evening! Can’t wait to go back.
We have been going to Murray Circle since it opened but sadly it is not as great as it use to be. Service was slow and the wait staff was inattentive. Had to ask for water refills twice. Food was ok although a bit salty. Views are great and setting is lovely.
We were celebrating my granddaughter’s first Birthday by going to the Discovery Museum then to lunch. The wait staff were so kind and accommodating throughout our meal. It meant so much as I know little children can be a challenge in a restaurant setting. Thank you for being so gracious!
The overall experience was wonderful. Beginning with a great seat on the corner next to the fireplace. It was my best friend's birthday and the setting was perfect. Our server Mateo was great. He had wonderful drink suggestions and as well as food suggestions. The service was excellent! we never felt rushed and truly enjoyed every minute spent at the restaurant and the premises. Thank you to your staff. Everyone is so accommodating and helpful. We will definitely be back and hope to sit at the same table. Is there a way to know what this seat number is? can it be requested at time of reservation?
My husband and I dined early so the table we were seated at was quiet and romantic with a prime view of the San Francisco Bay and city lights. Not sure what the noise level is when the restaurant is busier; we were there very early; 5:30 PM when the dining room had just opened. We loved the food, wine, service, and venue and we want to definitely return soon and bring friends for our next special occasion. Elegant and casual at the same time; typical Marin County wonderful vibe. We are locals and this restaurant is an example of why we love the area. Paradise.
Visited from Hawaii. Always tell friends it is so delicious.
They changed the menu and the brunch wasn't so good.
We requested the veranda. They said the reservations are only for the inside of the restaurant. They said we could be on the wait list, but they weren't very nice about it.
What made our dinner stand out for us was the attentive and responsive treatment we received from Stefan, the General Manager. It was our first dinner at Murray Circle (even though we are locals). All dishes had exceptional presentation and well balanced flavors and condiments. Try the bread pudding, recommended by Stefan — it was a nice surprise on an otherwise traditional dessert.
The menu was strangely confusing. It wasn’t a breakfast menu or a brunch menu or a lunch menu. Very few choices and very incongruent. I eat out a lot and it was the shortest, most uninteresting menu i have observed. 2 of us chose the hamburger which was so dry as to be nearly inedible. I separated it from the red cabbage (which was a curious accompaniment to a hamburger), and tried to cut through it with my fork—not a drop of juice came out and i ordered it rare! Awful! My daughter who usually ests everything walked away from hers. Waiter was fine and I didn’t want to complain to him. This is fourth time to eat there and dinners are always good. Ill never go back during the day.
Rude front staff who refused to sit us at an outside table even though there were 4 empty ones. Stated there was an hour wait and asked if we wanted to be put on the list. After being seated inside, we were told once an outside table became available (presumably a 5th one) they would move us. We sat instead for 2 hours and never once did they offer a table outside, even though empty ones were visible for nearly the entire time we ate.
My wife's birthday, very nice place to visit and good views of the city. bartender manager was very attentive and they were prompt and Courteous. Will go again. Not too casual, a little more pricey and so more of a special dinner place, but probably very good for afternoon drinks and snack.
If you live in the Bay Area or coming in from out of town, you must come here. This is located in a former enlisted quarters for a fort that was built during WWI. Food is very good albeit a little on the rich side. Was super quiet when we were there which leads to an intimate meal.
I have been to Murray Circle several times and enjoyed it. The food is decent and the location and views are great. Unfortunately my friends and I had a bad experience this time. I arrived first, gave the hostess my name (the one on the reservation) and reminded her I was expecting two more people. Long story short, I waited for 25 minutes, thinking my friends had gotten stuck in traffic. I finally went back towards the checkstand and on my way, in a separate area from where I had been seated, saw my friends seated (by a hostess); they had been waiting for me for the same 25 minutes! When I reported the problem to the hostess, she acted as if it were no big deal, and barely apologized, acting as if it were no big deal. Then when we ordered, the main courses for two of us arrived quickly, but there was a 25 minute wait for the main course of the third person! The waiter said he checked with the kitchen and they had "dropped the ticket." He was also only mildly apologetic. These TWO incidents at one meal left a sour taste, and I doubt I or my friends will go back to Murray Circle any time soon.
Food good, but surprised that weekend lunches are now only "brunch" menus. Would have preferred the option of a regular lunch menu, even though I'm dining on a Saturday/Sunday.
I ordered the ahi which came with a frisée salad. Ahi nicely seared, nicely plated, but not a lot of food for the price. (Our guests liked their turkey sandwiches.)
All in all, a "special events" dining experience... but, as a local, sure wish there were a bit more value involved.
That said, still love Cavallo Pt and Murray Circle... iconic place.
We ordered the chicken for 2, a salad and carpaccio. The waiter told us it would take 30 minutes for the chicken which was fine with us. No sooner did we order than the salad and carpaccio come. We didn't even have time to sip our wine. Then the chicken arrived right after that which was considerable less than 30 minutes. I was still eating my salad. The chicken was not really even hot and it was a boned chicken. That was not indicated on the menu. It was average at best. I think that you can do much better for the price of the food. For a fine dining restaurant, it was Denny's style rush!
This is the third time I’ve been to the restaurant. The meal was unfortunately very average. Waiter wasn’t very flexible about much. Ask for something that was in the bar and they made such a big deal then brought me a tiny bowl to share with 8 people. Wow really? It was popcorm. Not going anytime soon. And it was for my birthday too
We couldn't have had a more perfect anniversary celebration as we had at Murray Circle. From the beautiful location near the Golden Gate Bridge to the beautiful room to the friendly staff to food and drink that had me saying OMG throughout. We ordered the tasting menu as well as the additional wine pairing. Each bite and drink sent us over the moon and back. This dinner has to be one of the best, if not, The best ever. We definitely will return. Thank you everyone at Murray Circle!
Charming historic setting with excellent view of the bay and the San Francisco skyline. Outside porch charming but can get a bit cold (they do provide blankets), inside comfortable with a long bar and additional bar seating for those who wish to be more casual.
It may have just been the day but nothing looked good on the menu. It felt a little bit like they made stuff because the could, not because anyone would love it. We actually changed our minds and had dessert then went back to our room, ordered room service and had a delicious meal (likely from the same kitchen).
The service was excellent and very gracious.
We have been here several times ,mostly for dinner. This last time was a disappointment. Menu very limited.. Ambience and server were excellent but food only fair. My husbands piece of fish was miniscule and dry. My steak was ok,a bit tough. I feel the prices are way too high,33each for the fish and my steak. I’ve had lunch there before and I’ll be back for that time of day. Better value.
Overall a lovely place. We wanted a quiet place for a long leisurely lunch. It was just right when after about 20 minutes I was able to get the music volume lowered. The waiter was pleasant but told me he could not help me. Finally I found the Host and he lowered the volume. Not only was the music loud, the sound system was awful, lots of static with heavy rock vocals. The choice of music did not enhance the otherwise tranquil environment .
Our food was good, we both had mussels, very interesting broth. Our salads were excellent, fresh unique organic vegetables, well dressed.
