Muriel's Jackson Square

When you go to a restaurant that is in a high traffic, popular location (Jackson Square) and has its own interesting story (ghost of original owner), you brace yourself for a great location but sub-par food. Muriel's was far from that, in a very good way. We had a reservation and scoped out the restaurant beforehand, realizing that we would like to sit in the Courtyard when we arrived later for our dinner reservation. When we were sat on the Courtyard, it was in an odd, high traffic location, so we requested a table in the dining room. For our party of 5, they immediately accommodated our request and put us at a beautiful corner table along the window. We had two servers - very pleasant, fun and kind gentlemen. Two of us opted for the prix fixe menu while the others did a la carte. The pecan crusted drum was one of the best fish dishes I have had in my life, and the pain perdue (bread pudding) was also to die for. The gumbo (the starter) was clearly homemade but lacked in flavor - that would be my ONLY criticism of the food. Otherwise, what a great experience, and I was also able to visit the seance room and the private dining table of the on-site ghost :)
This was one of my priorities for this trip to New Orleans. It was well worth it and what I expected.
Food was exceptional.
Great service and incredible dining.
Food was Flavorful and nicely presented. Gumbo good. Crab cake very good. Steak good. Scallops very good.
Awesome food, ambience and service! My NOLA favorite!
This seems to be our Anniversary destination! This is the second year we have celebrated at Muriel’s, and had a terrific time! Travis and Michelle were exceptional, they made a delicious meal all that more enjoyable. :)
The food is delicious. But the service was a little amateur.
Absolutely good food and great service!!! I will definitely come back!
Always a must stop when we visit New Orleans. The blue cheese "pie" appetizer is a must. I asked for a quiet table and was given the perfect spot. Nice bar. Good food. Not overly noisey
Tasty authentic restaurant with great vibes and lovely waitstaff! My sisters favorite restaurant of our whole trip! Yum
Superb in every way. We enjoyed the Sunday jazz brunch
The turtle soup was just a bit off, but still good!
Loved everything about this brunch!!! We ate our way through New Orleans and my entire group agreed that this was one of our favorites!
I celebrated my 6th anniversary with my hubby and part of our wedding party and I highly recommend it! The food, ambiance, service, etc. we’re amazing!
Fabulous meal!! Very loud too!
I live in East Texas, 6 1/2 hours away, and I have eaten here on several occasions. This trip I brought my family to include my Sister and Niece. They do not like seafood, but ordered the Pecan crusted redfish. They were overwhelmed with the taste and quality.( Fantastic). On our way back home we had driven to Shreveport and my wife stated "OMG Muriel's has the best fish, I am going to miss this place"
Muriel's is the best food you will have in New Orleans. This is our go to place every time we visit the City.
Muriel’s was great! One of my favorite places in New Orleans. Food was fantastic and staff were very friendly.
I love the food at Muriel’s. They have the best shrimp Creole in the French Quarter. Service is alway warm and friendly Server Tiffany and her assistant Luis made my lunch special. Wonderful historic atmosphere. A New Orleans spot not to be missed for either lunch, dinner or drinks and light fair in bar area.
Muriel’s is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans - they never disappoint!
Great food. Hit and miss service.
We were spending a long weekend in NOLA and tried this based on reviews. We were disappointed in the 2 fish dishes ordered at our table with both the drum and salmon being very very dry. The bread was tasteless. However the double pork chop and shrimp and grits were very good. It’s a lovely place with good service but not great food across the board
This place was highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The best was the crepe goat cheese shrimp appetizer.
Very good food and the staff was attentive to our needs
Don’t give straight 5s out often.
The service was probably the best I have ever had anywhere. The food was phenomenal. I had turtle soup, pecan encrusted baby drum, and bread pudding. My wife had soup, shrimp and grits, and creme brûlée. All of these were great. We each had 2 cocktails. None of those were spectacular, but all were decent. We will definitely go back next time we’re in NOLA.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Dining with vegetarian friends and their meals were to a high standard.
Went to Muriels with 4 friends for restaurant week as I'm here from NY for a convention. The meal was spectacular! Even the warm bread to start was amazing! I would highly recommend the shrimp and grits and my friends said the salmon and pork chop were equally delectable. And the bread pudding with the rum sauce was out of the world good! The staff were so friendly, curteous and very effieicient. The ambiance was very authentic to the area. I loved how it was an old converted house! I would recommend without hesitation and will come back next time I am in town.
Muriel’s was absolutely perfect! The location, the ambiance, the service, and of course the food! Everyone in our party did the three course dinner option and were blown away with each plate. We will return to Muriel’s the next time we’re in New Orleans for sure.
The set menu for restaurant week was like eating in a pub. Thought it would be more interesting. Appetiser of pancakes and shrimp was delicious. Drinks weren’t cheap so limited ourselves to one.
They made our family celebration very special. Wonderful ambiance, you really feel like you have gone back in time.
A very nice evening, good cooking, personal kindly, but too noisly for this kind of restaurant
Must go to place
Wonderful food and service. RJ and Ryan were two of the best servers I’ve ever had. They treated my mom and I great and even spent extra time taking us upstairs and telling us a bit of the restaurants history which was the main reason we came. I’ve been to a wedding at Muriel’s and now a regular dinner. I don’t think I will ever be able to go back to New Orleans without making a stop at Muriel’s. Easily one of the best places.
Vraiment très bon et très agréable personnel au petit soin je recommande vivement ce restaurant
Really not as good as last times we were there. Turtle soup not particularly good, where previously thought best in city. Didn't like boudin balls at all, pork chop way too salty. Serine excellent.
We had a memorable 26th Anniversary dinner. We sat by the window and enjoyed the evening glow. The shrimp and grits were amazing, it was delicious, comforting and unforgettable. The food service was excellent, the staff was very attentive.
Loved the food and the service. The only thing which fell short was the Margarita, but I’m not in Los Angeles and I guess few people drink them here. It like it was made with lime cordial and I downed it in one hoping the tequila would help me forget the taste. Maybe the barman took a break as it was middle afternoon. I’ll try one next time I come and ask if I can watch it be made - instruct if necessary.
The best food in New Orleans thus far. The food was amazing. I even enjoyed the oysters which I rarely like or eat. Everything was portioned perfectly and nothing was overly salted and cooked perfectly.
