This is not a restaurant. It is a bar with food. Just know that going in.
First mistake was seeing that I could make an open table reservation here. Not needed- there was no hostess to seat us, it was a first come first serve establishment.
The noise level was pretty loud, but when we realized this wasn’t a bar/restaurant its just a bar with food we lowered our expectations.
This kitchen lost a couple of our orders for apps and main meals so things came out later than we would have preferred but our server was gracious and apologetic.
My one kudos is they had a great beer selection.
Great spot to watch the MSU bowl game - energy and atmosphere made it fun! The loaded tots were OUTSTANDING!!! Friendly and attentive service too!
Great food. Great sports bar
Great place to watch a MSU game with friends! Service was excellent!
This was a very underwhelming experience. The place is huge and they have a cool patio but I went for brunch and was the only person there. The food was not good. Example the chicken and waffles you could 100% tell it was breaded and frozen. The club came on a pita and it was so dry. I could go on. Unfortunately I will not be back, there are too many other options.
We attended Municipal on a nice warm evening. We were seated on the patio. It was a pretty quiet evening in downtown Chicago that night. Our server was friendly and gave his recommendations when we asked. We had the calamari as an appetizer and it was very tasty. I recommend those visiting to try the Calamari if you are a seafood fan. Our entrees were brought in a timely manner and very filling. Overall, good experience and would return for another date night!
The service was really good,,,, but they only served food til around 11, and we couldn't order any specialty drinks after 11 either. So my group and I felt slighted because of it.
I arrived to my 11:00 reservation to find the door locked. After calling the restaurant the door was unlocked but no person was present to greet and seat my party. Upon entering the establishment I did not get the sense they were TRULY open as there were rags on the bar and many of the carpets were rolled up on the floor. I shouted "HELLO!!" and eventually a staff member sat us. She was very polite and accurately took our order but overall the experience was unremarkable
Had a great time. Great house music provided by great DJ. Great place to meet friends!
The host provided my reservation to someone that used my name without me being present.
Service was bad, from the rude hostess to the disinterested service staff. Two times they took my wife's drink although she was only half done without even so much as an apology. Food is decent for bar food and the people who frequent are a fun and lively group.
If I had one word, it is OVERRATED. First, when we walked in there was no one to be seen. We had to walk through the restaurant to find the hostess in a booth at the far end of the restaurant on her cell phone. I asked her to check us in since we had OpenTable reservations, and followed her to the host stand at the front door (where she should have been when we came in). But she did not check us in, so I had to contact management later so I could write this review. We were the only people in the restaurant most of the time. I thought they had brunch, but the menu we were given did not list brunch. Later as we were getting ready to leave, the only other couple in the restaurant asked about brunch, and only then did we find out there was a separate brunch menu that the server did not bother to inform us about. I have gone to over a hundred restaurants, and write reviews on all of them. I am easy to please, and most of my reviews are 4's or 5's. This restaurant is one of a handful that I do not recommend. There are too many good choices out there.
Perfect spot to watch the Lions game in Chicago! I felt right at home since I am a Michigan State University alumnus and this is a Spartan Bar! Go Green!!
Great place to watch sports. Great service (Andy)
Felt like a club at 7 O clock. Wouldn't call it a restaurant. Wouldn't say you'd ever need a reservation for dinner here.
Food wasn't so good. Also, when my glass of prosecco spilled, they didn't replace it which every other restaurant would do.
Food and cocktails were awful. Party beside us also complained.
Fun upscale sports bar. Good drink deal (16oz 312 + shot of whiskey for only $10) was on point. Will be back.
Went to watch the MSU game. The nachos were amazing
We had a group of 8 interested in watching the Cub game. We were fortunate to have a moderate October evening and so sat outside. There were 2 big screen TVs outside and we sat right in front of them. It was the perfect setting for a ball game. Food was good and reasonably priced. We had a great time.
Great place for all sports events, service and food were fabulous, highly recommended
We dined with a large party, one of which was my 90 year old Grandma who was visiting. The restaurant was accommodating of her walker, however the experience was underwhelming for our guest in town. The food came out at all different times. My moms dish, simply an omelet, didn't arrive at the table until some of us were finishing our plates. The kitchen seemed to be having issues keeping up despite the low number of people in the restaurant. The bar is great for a game or some drinks, but we will more than likely skip on brunch going forward. The waitress was good and handled the kitchen's issues well. Understandably not her fault, but certainly uncomfortable for her. Thanks.
In town for anniversary. It was close to where we were staying. Great outdoor patio with large tvs. Great food and service and good drinks. Downtown Chicago and would recommend and come back!
Loved my food at Municpal as well as the cocktails but that was all cancelled out by the terrible service. We were a groups of eight and half our food came out together. We then waited for the rest without starting to eat for about 7 min. Mind you no staff nor our waitress came back to say the rest was on its way or address the delay. After about 10 min we went to the bar and asked about our food and for hot sauce. This time we were told it was coming. About 15 min after the first food came 3 more meals arrived but we were still waiting on one. Again the staff that dropped off the food said nothing. Finally after about 6 minutes more our waitress came by and asked if we needed anything and we pointed out we were still missing food. The last plate got delivered about 40 min after the first group of food. The waitress offered us one free round of drinks and ultimately compted a meal but it was just the fact that they didn't address the issue at all.
Made a reservation for 11:30 pm and arrived only to find out the kitchen was closed at 11 pm. We paid 15 bucks for parking only to be unable to eat. While the staff was apologetic, the information and reservation times available online needs to be more accurate for this restaurant.
Booked a reservation, but it turned out that wasn't necessary on a Wednesday - the place was pretty much dead at 7 PM, and I had no problem sitting at the bar. I'm guessing the mentioned crowds must be a lot worse on weekends and big game nights. Unfortunately, the bar staff seemed more interested in chatting up the group of ladies at the other end than providing equal service to the few other patrons. I started with the house Moscow Mule, and I gotta say that for $10, it was a joke - it may as well have been an over-iced Canada Dry w/ lime in a copper mug. The subsequent Spicy Mule I asked for (because I am a believer in second chances), was made by the other bartender on duty, and he was considerably more generous with the liquor pour (can't remember any names, sorry). I ordered up the skirt steak w/ house fries - asked for rare, I would say it arrived more of a medium/medium-well, but it had clearly been pounded and cubed to tenderize it. To their credit, it was tender for the cut, and had a tasty marinade, so I won't dock too much for the overfiring. And the fries were great - classic, hand-cut bistro-style.
I'd be willing to go back with a group, but I think I would stick to beers, apps, and sandwiches.
Great upperclass sports bar! Would recommend for any big game!
We went for a Blackhawks game and it was lots of fun!
I came here twice, once for happy hour and once for brunch. It was good for a large group at happy hour, and the deals were good. Brunch was not very good. The place was empty, the service wasn't as good as it should have been, and the food was overpriced for what it was. No one was impressed with their meals. I would return for happy hour, but not for food.
Enjoyed the food service and atmosphere here, while watching the last Blackhawk's game of the regular season. Plenty of TVs, though music was a bit loud. Will definitely go back to enjoy the outdoor deck/patio when the weather warms up.
Ok place if you want to watch a game, but don't expect to be able to hear anything but the TVs. The service and food were pretty bad. I would not go back.
Food was alright. Was disappointed to find out that they had changed the menu. I would suggest updating their menu online.
When we got there they took a while to come and greet the table about 10 min. Working in the industry that came off very bad. The food was amazing that made up for the lack of service. A little expensive but not disappointed.
Great fun atmosphere, always good food and friendly service
Waaaaay too loud on the thumpa-thumpa house music for 6pm on a Sunday evening. That said, the flat bread pizza with fresh mushrooms, the O-rings, and the sliders were yummy. Very attentive busperson kept table clean and well-watered.
Came here for an MSU Alumni watch party. Great Experience!
Pretty low key
Aria our server was amazing!
This was my first time here but it was an awesome place to watch the game. So glad that I chose to check it out. My friends and I had a great time and even made new a ton of new friends with patrons sitting along side us. I'll definitely be back!
Your review choices only let me say "energetic" when I wanted to say "obnoxiously loud." It is an MSU bar and we were there to watch football, not be in a dance club. During every commercial (and often when the game was back on, there was an interview with a coach, etc.) we were blasted out of our seats with club music so loud you couldn't even talk to the person sitting next to you. They have a lot of tv's and take reservations so it should be a great place to watch a game, but sadly it's just way to much of a scene. I feel like they need to pick one, either sports bar or club, because it's not working to do both.
